The lifetime of a solid-state drive (SSD) is limited because of the number of program and erase cycles allowed on its NAND flash blocks. Data cannot be overwritten in an SSD, leading to an out-of-place update every time the data are modified. This result in two copies of the data: the original copy and a modified copy. This phenomenon is known as write amplification and adversely affects the endurance of the memory. In this study, we address the issue of reducing wear leveling through efficient handling of write requests. This results in even wearing of all the blocks, thereby increasing the endurance period. The focus of our work is to logically divert the write requests, which are concentrated to limited blocks, to the less-worn blocks and then measure the maximum number of write requests that the memory can handle. A memory without the proposed algorithm wears out prematurely as compared to that with the algorithm. The main feature of the proposed algorithm is to delay out-of-place updates till the threshold is reached, which results in a low overhead. Further, the algorithm increases endurance by a factor of the threshold level multiplied by the number of blocks in the memory.
It is important to improve the performance of storage in the home cloud environment within the virtualized IoT gateway since the performance of applications deeply depends on storage. Though SSD caching is applied in order to improve the storage, it is only used for read-cache due to the limitations of SSD such as poor write performance and small write endurance. However, it is important to improve performance of the write operation in the home cloud server, in order to improve the end-user experience. This paper propose a novel SSD caching which considers write-data as well as read-data. We validate the enhancement in the performance of random-write by transforming it to the sequential patterns.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify university students' willingness to write advance directives and factors related to this willingness. Method: A cross-sectional survey design was used and 400 nursing students and 287 non-nursing students participated in the study. Data were collected by convenience sampling using self-report questionnaires. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. Results: The mean score for willingness to write advance directives was 4.09. From the multiple regression analysis, predictors of willingness to write advance directives were found to be majoring in nursing, awareness of advance directives, preference for autonomous decision making related to the end of life care, family preference related to the end of life care, and self esteem. Conclusion: The study results indicate that various factors are related to willingness to write advance directives and nurses need to consider client characteristics, knowledge, and own values when taking care of issues on advance directives.

The choice of a suitable distributed file system is required for loading large data and high-speed processing through subsequent applications in a cloud environment. In this paper, we propose a write performance improvement method based on GlusterFS and evaluate the performance of MapRFS, CephFS and GlusterFS among existing distributed file systems in cloud environment. The write performance improvement method proposed in this paper enhances the response time by changing the synchronization level used by the synchronous replication method from disk to memory. Experimental results show that the distributed file system to which the proposed method is applied is superior to other distributed file systems in the case of sequential write, random write and random read.

Hard disks, which have long been used as secondary storage in computing systems, are increasingly being replaced by solid state drives (SSDs), due to their relatively fast data input / output speeds and small, light weight. SSDs that use NAND flash memory as a storage medium are significantly different from hard disks in terms of physical operation and internal operation. In particular, there is a feature that data overwrite can not be performed, which causes erase operation before writing. In order to solve this problem, a hot data for frequently updating a data for a specific page is distinguished from a cold data for a relatively non-hot data. Hot data identification helps to improve overall performance by identifying and managing hot data separately. Among the various hot data identification methods known so far, there is a technique of recording consecutive write requests by using a Bloom filter and judging the values by hot data. However, the Bloom filter technique has a problem that a new bit array must be generated every time a set of items is changed. In addition, since it is judged based on a continuous write request, it is possible to make a wrong judgment. In this paper, we propose a method using a counting filter for accurate hot data verification. The proposed method examines consecutive write requests. It also records the number of times consecutive write requests occur. The proposed method enables more accurate hot data verification.

Database systems usually have many parameters that must be configured by database administrators and users. RocksDB achieves fast data writing performance using a log-structured merged tree. This database has many parameters associated with write and space amplifications. Write amplification degrades the database performance, and space amplification leads to an increased storage space owing to the storage of unwanted data. Previously, it was proven that significant performance improvements can be achieved by tuning the database parameters. However, tuning the multiple parameters of a database is a laborious task owing to the large number of potential configuration combinations. To address this problem, we selected the important parameters that affect the performance of RocksDB using random forest. We then analyzed the effects of the selected parameters on write and space amplifications using analysis of variance. We used a genetic algorithm to obtain optimized values of the major parameters. The experimental results indicate an insignificant reduction (-5.64%) in the execution time when using these optimized values; however, write amplification, space amplification, and data processing rates improved considerably by 20.65%, 54.50%, and 89.68%, respectively, as compared to the performance when using the default settings.
We made an optimization effort on driving waveforms for the Quantized Memory Addressing (QMA) in selective write mode of operation. It was necessary to add long ramp type erase pulses after the total write pulse and the sustain period to obtain stable intermediate luminance discharges. Furthermore, fast rising ramp type total write as well as two step addressing scheme were adopted for better discharge stability.

The TDX-10 Time Switch architecture has modularity, high reliability and considerable large switch fabric having separated and both-way 1K time slot interchange switching circuit elements. In this paper, we present key functions, architecture, features and traffic characteristic of TDX-10 Time Switch. And we also describe some basic implementation technologies such as Frame Base Read-Write Separation Method, Multi-Write Method and Read-Write Separation Technique with Dual-port Memory.

A microprocessor, which is used as a CPU for state-of-the-art personal computers, adopts 256KB or 512KB L2(Level 2) cache memory. This cache hires Direct Mapping Procedure, 32B Line Size, and no Write Allocation. In this cache architecture, we can expert about 2.5% hit ratio improvement by using 8-way Set Associative Mapping instead of Direct Mapping, 128B Line Size instead of 32B, and Write Allocation.

Degraded data stability, weaker write ability, and increased leakage power consumption are the primary concerns in scaled static random-access memory (SRAM) circuits. Two new SRAM cells are proposed in this paper for achieving enhanced read data stability and lower leakage power consumption in memory circuits. The bitline access transistors are asymmetrically gate-underlapped in the proposed SRAM cells. The strengths of the asymmetric bitline access transistors are weakened during read operations and enhanced during write operations, as the direction of current flow is reversed. With the proposed hybrid asymmetric SRAM cells, the read data stability is enhanced by up to 71.6% and leakage power consumption is suppressed up to 15.5%, while displaying similar write voltage margin and maintaining identical silicon area as compared to the conventional memory cells in a 15 nm FinFET technology.
