Characterizing the Tail Distribution of Android IO Workload (안드로이드 입출력 부하의 꼬리분포 특성분석)

  • The use of NAND flash memory has increased rapidly due to the development of mobile fields. However, NAND flash memory has a limited lifespan, so studies are underway to predict its lifespan. Workload is one of the factors that significantly affect the life of NAND flash memory, and workload analysis studies in mobile environments are insufficient. In this paper, we analyze the distribution of workload in the mobile environment by collecting traces generated by using Android-based smartphones. The collected traces can be divided into three groups of hotness. Also they are distributed in the form of heavy tails. We fit this to the Pareto, Lognormal, and Weibull distributions, and Traces are closest to the Pareto distribution.

  • An empirical analysis was conducted on the workload of helicopter pilots flying in high-risk flight environments such as ground obstacles and weather effects at low altitudes. To evaluate the workload, an independent sample t-test was performed using the NASA-TLX evaluation method most suitable for the aviation field, and the workload score was calculated by applying the analytical stratification method (AHP) to compare and analyze private and commercial pilots. There is a significant difference in mean between private and commercial pilots and the result of work load was obtained over 70%. This paper studied the 'surprise and startle effect' on the helicopter field for the first time. In the future, it is intended to contribute to the safe operation of helicopters by presenting a method for effective safety management by utilizing it in the field of education and training for helicopter pilots and providing basic data for preventing accidents caused by human error.

  • This paper deals with a case study of workload analysis of an operator in an automatic line for machining the race of ball bearing. Eleven machines and three hoppers are installed in the line which is operated by an operator. The elements of operation are separated into machine controlled elements, operator controlled elements and machine/operator controlled elements. In order to analyze the system, time and motion studies are used for gathering input data for the simulation model. The first objective of this study is to evaluate whether the workload of operator is reasonable or not. The second objective is to increase throughput by reducing tact time and the last one is to increase frequencies of inspection by reducing interval. Thus we suggest some ideas for improvement, and as a result, the throughput is improved about 9%. In spite of the increasing of throughput, the allowance of operator is also increased about 4%.

Queue Lengths and Sojourn Time Analysis of Discrete-time BMAP/G/1 Queue under the Workload Control (일량제어정책을 갖는 이산시간 BMAP/G/1 대기행렬의 고객수와 체재시간 분석)

  • In this study, we analyzed queue length and sojourn time of discrete-time BMAP/G/1 queues under the workload control. Group customers (packets) with correlations arrive at the system following a discrete-time Markovian arrival process. The server starts busy period when the total service time of the arrived customers exceeds a predetermined workload threshold D and serves customers until the system is empty. From the analysis of workload and waiting time, distributions of queue length at the departure epoch and arbitrary time epoch and system sojourn time are derived. We also derived the mean value as a performance measure. Through numerical examples, we confirmed that we can obtain results represented by complex forms of equations, and we verified the validity of the theoretical values by comparing them with simulation results. From the results, we can obtain key performance measures of complex systems that operate similarly in various industrial fields and to analyze various optimization problems.

The Analysis of Driving Workload and Gamma Waves on Curved Sections in Expressway (고속도로 커브구간에서 운전자의 운전부하와 감마파 특성분석에 관한 연구)

  • Previous studies show that driver mental workload plays a significant role in the occurrence of traffic accidents. This study also analyzes driving workload under different road conditions especially with the brain wave data collected by a driving simulator. We use a logistic regression model to explain the relationship between driving workload and gamma brain waves. The results show that beta band of brain waves becomes broader with more curved sections while alpha band and gamma band become narrower. Since driving workload is negatively correlated with gamma band, it can be concluded that driving condition with less curved section is beneficial for reducing driving stress and increasing driving comfort.

  • In these days, the demand of users to extend available period of mobile systems is increased according as the functions of mobile systems have been varied and the use of multimedia application has been increased. This paper proposes an integrated power management framework that considers executed workload types for effective energy management. The conventional methods use DVFS technique for CPU and DPM technique for WNIC separately or simply combine them based on the assumption that they are orthogonal one another. However, the proposed mechanism determines the kind of workload under analysis of the characteristics of workloads incoming through a WNIC. The proposed method can reduce energy consumption of system level effectively by controlling CPU and WNIC to proper power mode based on analyzed characteristics of workload. The experimental result shows the proposed method reduces energy consumption by 9% for BE (Best Effort) workload, CBR (Constant Bit Rate) workload, and Interactive workload on average and by 16% to maximum when compared with the conventional methods which simply combine DVFS technique for CPU and DPM technique for WNIC.

Queue Length Analysis of Discrete-time Queueing System under Workload Control and Single Vacation (일량제어정책과 단수휴가를 갖는 이산시간 대기행렬의 고객수 분석)

  • In this paper, we consider a dyadic server control policy that combines workload control and single vacation. Customer arrives at the system with Bernoulli process, waits until his or her turn, and then receives service on FCFS(First come first served) discipline. If there is no customer to serve in the system, the idle single server spends a vacation of discrete random variable V. If the total service times of the waiting customers at the end of vacation exceeds predetermined workload threshold D, the server starts service immediately, and if the total workload of the system at the end of the vacation is less than or equal to D, the server stands by until the workload exceeds threshold and becomes busy. For the discrete-time Geo/G/1 queueing system operated under this dyadic server control policy, an idle period is analyzed and the steady-state queue length distribution is derived in a form of generating function.

  • This paper analyzes the characteristics of drivers' workload observed from with 30 participant drivers with respect to two physio-physiological parameters. For investigating physio-physiological characteristics of road drivers, bio-signals from brain's occipital lobe between simulation experiment and real driving experiment are collected and analyzed. The major findings from the analysis are summarized as follows: First, the drivers' physio-physiological workload is a good parameter for explaining the workload characteristics of road drivers. Secondly, the two physio-physiological workload parameters selected, i.e., beta value and relative energy parameter, are revealed to be statistically significant. Thirdly, it is also revealed to be statistically significant to select 90 percentile measurements in simulator experiment to explain the road drivers' characteristics. Finally, the maximum workload of road design driver is 31.72 in beta parameter, whereas the minimum workload is 1.296 in relative energy parameter.

Development of a Workload Assessment Index Based on Analyzing Driving Patterns (운전자 주행패턴을 반영한 작업부하 평가지표 개발)

  • Various assessment indexes have been developed and utilized to evaluate the driver workload. However, existing workload assessment indexes do not fully reflect driving habits and driving patterns of individual drivers. In addition, there exists significant differences in the amount of workload experienced by a driver and the ability to overcome the driver's workload. To overcome these limitations associated with existing indexes, this study has developed a novel workload assessment index to reflect an individual driver's driving pattern. An average of the absolute values of the steering velocity for each driver are set as a threshold value in order to reflect the driving patterns of individual drivers. Further, the sum of the areas of the steering velocities exceeding the threshold value, which is defined as erratic steering area (ESA) in this study, was quantified. The developed ESA index is applied in evaluating the driver workload of manually driven vehicles in automated vehicle platooning environments. Driving simulation experiments are conducted to collect drivers' responsive behavior data which are used for exploring the relationship between the NASA-TLX score and the ESA by the correlation analysis. As a result, ESA is found to have the greatest correlation with the NASA-TLX score among the various driver workload evaluation indexes in the lane change scenario, confirming the usefulness of ESA.

Investigation of Musculoskeletal Disorders Among Mid-old Aged Woman Caregiver at a Long-term Hospital

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the risk factors of the musculoskeletal workload of mid-old-age female caregivers by identifying work postures and subjective symptoms. Method: This study was carried out on a total of 206 subjects 206 mid-old-age caregivers(45~65 years old) from November 2009 to April 2010: 206 mid-old-age caregivers (45~65 years old) at the long-term hospital. A questionnaires survey on general factors and subjective symptoms of subjects was conducted. The risk factors of the musculoskeletal workload evaluation method is based on OWAS, RULA, REBA according to occupation properties. Results: The analysis of the rates of the subjective symptoms showed that 78.6% subjects experience low back pain. The analysis of the work type showed that transfer is the highest rate(36.3%) and position change is the second(18.2%). The analysis of the work postures showed that the thrusted back with twisting position over $20^{\circ}$ is highest rate(37.4%), the bended back forward with twisting position is the second(27.5%). Conclusion: This study suggested that the need of preventive education for caregivers and workload improve. It is hoped that subsequent study on the difference of subjective symptoms between educated caregivers and non educated caregivers will be conducted.
