  • This study examined the wearing conditions of working clothes of shipbuilding industry workers according to the working environmental factors and working process features. It was also investigated the relationship between the wearing sense of working clothes and the overall comfort according to work processes. In the working process of shipbuilding industry, the process of fitting, welding, grinding and painting were chosen by considering work environmental factors, disaster types, hazardous materials, work process features, working clothes and safety equipments of each work categorized. The workers of fitting process usually wore the standard working clothes, while more than 60% of the workers of welding, grinding and painting wore the specialized protective clothes. The hazardous work environmental factors such as noise, heavy dust, high temperature and noxious fumes affected to the workers of fitting, welding and grinding. However, the workers of painting were greatly damaged by organic solvent. The dissatisfaction with the wearing performance of working clothes was highly shown in the sweat absorbency, moisture permeability and body protection. In respect of the correlation between the overall comfort and the wearing sense of working clothes, the satisfaction was decreased in orders of movement comfort> sensual comfort> physiological comfort.

  • Degree of noise by personal dental laboratory working process and degree of noise by complex dental laboratory working process were measured separtely. The time of exposure to noise greater than 70dB was analyzed. Then, the whole degree of noise in dental laboratory was estimated on the basis of afore-mentioned information. Questionaire were employed to investigate the mental, emotional and physiological effects of noise in dental technicians, The purpose of this study was to provide basic information on keeping dental techneicans who are exposed to noise pollution in good working condition and good health. Results obtained are as follows ; 1. Polishing process in each working part showed high degree of noise greater than 70dB in terms of degree of noise by personal working. 2. Degree of noise by complex working process in each working part was greater than that of personal working process. 3. Time of exposure to noise complex working process the part of porcelain 150min, partial denture 120 min, crown and bridge 100 min, full denture 80 min. 4. Degree of noise by time in dental laboratory was 80dB in general for polishing process and below 75dB for waxing process. 5. Effects of noise on mental and emotional state of dental technicians showed that they felt irritated every day(14%), irritated once in a while(29%) and easily ger mad(19%). 6. Effects of noise on heart and stomach were hyper-gastric acid(38%), gastric ulcer(11%), gastritis(5%), deuodenal ulcer(3%) and weak heart function(32%). 7. Effects of noise in the hearing ability were weak(39%), moderate(33%) and normal(14%) Data presented in this study demonstrated that noise in the dental laboratory exerts profound effect on dental technicians mentally, physiologically and emotionally, in light of the above results, therefore, it appears advisable to devots substantial on the management of working condition and put further(continuing) efforts in the investigation for reducing noise problem.

  • Objective : For the purpose of preparing the fundamental data and health promotion and control program on organic solvents in air of manufacturing industry. Methods : The author surveyed number of organic solvent components which was used in working site and also determined the organic solvents concentration in air of 927 manufacturing industries and 1,267 working process with gas chromatography(NIOSH manual) for five years from 1995 to 1999. Results : Mean number of solvents components by type of industry, working process was number of 12. There were exceeded to TLV of 1,2-dichloroethane in textile manufacturing industry N,N-dimethyl furan in tanning and dressing of leather ; luggage, handbags, saddlery, harness and footwear manufacturing industry and chemical and chemical product manufacturing industry by type of industry. There were exceeded to TLV of 1,2-dichloroethane in handwriting and drawing process, cellosolve in adhesive spreading process, N,N-dimethly furan in production of solvent process and adhesion process by working process Total exceeded rate to threshold limit values of organic solvents mixture were 12.9% for EI(Exposure index) and 10.0% for Em(Estimation of mixture) by type of industry, 11.3% for EI and 8.2% for Em by type of working process. The highest exceed rate was 36.7% for EI in tanning and dressing of leather ; luggage handbags, saddlery, harness and footwear manufacturing industry and 29.0% for Em in textile manufacturing industry. The highest exceeded rate was 23.1% for EI and 12.5% for Em in adhesive spreading process by working process. Mean values of total subjects by type of industry and type of working process were $0.7{\pm}1.8$ for EI and $0.7{\pm}1.7$ for Em respectively. Conclusions : As above results, the author suggest that it makes the environmental control program on 1.2-dichloroethane, N,N-dimethyl furan, cellosolve by kind of organic solvent and on textile manufacturing industry, tanning and dressing of leather ; luggage, handbags, saddlery harness and footwear manufacturing industry by type of industry, and on handwriting, drawing process and adhesive spreading process and adhesion process by type of working process.

  • This paper describes an experimental study on fatigue life extension by using cold working process in fastener hole of aircraft structure. Cold working process was applied for A12024-7351 specimens by considering the effect of edge margin on fatigue life. It is generally recognized that cold working process offers a protective zone around fastener hole of aluminum aircraft structure due to the residual compressive stresses which lead to retardation of crack growth. Thus this process provides the beneficial effect of increasing the fatigue life of the component. there by decreasing maintenance costs. It has also been successfully incorporated into damage tolerance and structural integrity programs. Cold working specimens were tested at constant amplitude peak cyclic stresses. Fatigue life of cold working specimen compared with that of specimen fabricated with base material. The increase of fatigue life for cold working specimen is discussed by both considering the effect of residual compressive stresses measured by X-ray diffraction technique and quantitative effect of edge margin.

  • As the working design process of Turn-Key projects is a basic process for the final contract, this process has lots of business decision to be made. Because such results of business decision can be the basis on contract documents, it is the step which needs a through management for Turn-key project. But in case of domestic construction companies, because those are not organized process of working design process, project manager has had lots of trouble at each process to make the business decision. As a means of settling the problems, this research is initiated. First, working decision management process is identified and generalized by interviews with project managers. Second, cases that actually happened in the project are investigated and categorized. Third, response plan to solve the problems and check lists to prevent the problems are suggested. Finally, the process, cases, response plan, and check list are integrated using CBR for future reuse.

  • The goal of this study is to propose the effective method of investigating the injurious factors and making improved plans that prevents the workers against musculoskeletal disorders at an autopart company and the same business field with similar working conditions and process. A questionnaire were adopted to analyze the symptoms of workers' musculoskeletal disorders, and an ergonomic assessment method such as QEC, RULA, S.I were performed to find out harmful factors of workplace and working posture. Based on the result of the evaluation, to enhance the working environment, improvement of worktable, working space, tools, and outfit was suggested, and induction of mechanical system was also suggested. It can be concluded that the method and process described in this paper could be helpful for diagnosing the musculoskeletal disorders and making improvement plans to the autopart company and the same business field with similar working conditions and process.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate working clothes for shipbuilding workers who work in one of the poorest work environments among national strategic industries that are playing pivotal roles for the Korean economy. For the study method, requirements collected through interviews and field surveys were incorporated to directly weave the fabrics for working clothes. The colors were then selected and the woven fabrics were dyed with the selected colors. Using these, the designs of working clothes were planned from the construction and design aspects and four winter clothes and four spring and fall clothes were produced. Afterwards, the workers dressed in these clothes and workers and managers evaluated them in terms of appearance, color satisfaction, design satisfaction, and safety mind harmony on a five point scale. This study found that the new working clothes offered better functionality, design, and safety compared to existing working clothes.
