Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand care workers' fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention in nursing home. Methods: This study was a descriptive survey study. Data have been collected from 125 care workers in 5 nursing homes. Data were analyzed using frequency, t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: 1) The average percentage of correct answers for care workers' fall-related knowledge was 72.2%. There were significant differences in fall-related knowledge by age, experiences of re-education about care for fall injuries, and experiences to transfer fall patients to another hospital. 2) The average level of care workers' caring behaviors for fall prevention was 3.81 points out of 4. There were significant differences by experiences of education about care for fall injuries in nursing home and concern of fall injury prevention. 3) There was a significant correlation between fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention (r=.320, p<.001). Conclusion: The level of fall-related knowledge is positively correlated to the level of caring behaviors for fall prevention. Therefore, nurses should prepare education programs to increase care workers' fall-related knowledge and caring behaviors for fall prevention.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors influencing care workers' intention of hand hygiene implementation in long-term care hospitals. Methods: A total of 180 care workers working at long-term care hospitals were recruited. Data collection was done from July 22 to September 7, 2018. Results: The significant TPB variables influencing the intention of hand hygiene implementation were perceived behavior control (β=.41, p<.001), normative belief (β=.28, p<.001) and attitude toward behavior (β=.15, p=.014). These factors explain 39% of care workers' intension of implementing hand hygiene in long-term care hospitals. Conclusion: In order to strengthen the commitment of hand hygiene, it is necessary to have a positive attitude toward hand hygiene by eliminating the obstacles to hand hygiene.

Purpose: To identify the differences in perception of and adherence to the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guidelines among health care workers, patients, and the general public and to use them to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Methods: From October 16 2020 to November 30, 2020, a survey was conducted among 85 health care workers, 85 patients, and 82 general public regarding the perception of and adherence to the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guidelines. Results: Patients scored significantly higher than the general public in the adherence to the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guideline, and there was no difference between health care workers and general public, and patients and health care workers. In the multivariate analysis, the factors that influence the adherence of the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guide were found in women and the perception of the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guideline. Conclusion: In order to promote the implementation of the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guideline, it is necessary to increase the perception of the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guideline and provide additional education in men. It is necessary to investigate the reason behind why men have low adherence to the COVID-19 social distancing behavior guideline.
Purpose: This study is a mixed methods research that was conducted to verify factors affecting the working experience of community-based long-term care hospital workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: The study was carried out from July 19 to November 3, 2021 for 340 nurses who worked at 10 long-term care hospitals located in G city. Results: As the study results, factors that affected job stress of the workers working at community-based long-term care hospitals included job satisfaction (β=-.27, p<.001), work demand (β=-.25, p<.001), fatigue (β=.19, p=.001), and cooperation and leadership (β=-.12, p=.049). It was found that the participants were struggling with physical and mental stress caused by the increased workload due to the preventative measures taken to stop the infection and spread of COVID-19. Despite this, they accepted their situation as necessary to overcome the pandemic and shared the quarantine guidelines of the government and community health centers while actively responding to prevent the spread of COVID-19 under the leadership of their supervisors. However, they were experiencing psychological and emotional burnout in the prolonged pandemic situation. Conclusion: It is considered necessary to help relieve their stress and provide psychological and mental support by adopting a policy to develop and apply comprehensive programs.

Objectives: Objectives of this study were: 1) to introduce industrial situation and health hazards of synthetic fiber, 2) to review a case of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in a worker exposed to synthetic fiber reported to the Korea Occupational Disease Surveillance Center, and 3) to suggest supplementary measures for the occupational health system for workers exposed to synthetic fibers. Methods: Respiratory exposure, health hazards, and exposure standards for synthetic fiber dust in Korea and other countries were reviewed. In addition, a case of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease due to exposure to nylon dust reported to the Korea Occupational Disease Surveillance Center was reviewed and summarized. Results: The worker was a 53-year-old non-smoking male who had been involved in the nylon weaving process for 26 years. He had shortness of breath from three years ago. He was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. PM1.0, PM2.5, and PM10 were measured at 26.6 ㎍/m3, 48.2 ㎍/m3, and 91.7 ㎍/m3, respectively. Fiber components estimated as nylon fiber were detected in the microscopic examination of a solid sample. Conclusions: For workers exposed to synthetic fiber dust, special health examinations of the respiratory system, regular work environment measurement, and work environment management through workplace health management should be performed. It is necessary to research on health effects of synthetic fibers.
This study is a participatory action research conducted to develop a program to prevent musculoskeletal disorders among kitchen workers in a general hospital. This study was conducted from March to December 2018 with 15 kitchen workers, 3 nutritionists, 2 nurses, and 1 physical therapist working at C general hospital located in G city. Based on the conceptual model of participatory practice research, quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed comprehensively. As a result of developing a program for preventing musculoskeletal disorders and applying it 13 times, the satisfaction level was high in the composition, operation time, and expertise of the program, and it was found that they wanted to operate the program continuously in the future. Therefore, based on the results of this study, it is necessary to develop and apply a musculoskeletal disease prevention program that considers the characteristics of the work department and work targeting other workers through participatory action research.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the dose of radiation exposure to radiation-related workers in a hospital setting, thus increasing awareness of the health risk to the radiation-related workers. The result of the analysis showed the average dose of radiation exposure to radiation-related workers in hospital K was $0.75{\pm}0.26mSv$ in 2008, $0.67{\pm}0.30mSv$ in 2009, and $0.92{\pm}0.33mSv$ in 2010. The average dose of radiation exposure in hospital P was $0.43{\pm}0.13mSv$ in 2008, $0.43{\pm}0.20mSv$ in 2009, and $0.33{\pm}0.85mSv$ in 2010. The average dose of radiation exposure in hospital K by age group was 13.39mSv for age 20 to 29, 8.37mSv for age 30 to 39, 1.19mSv for age 40 to 49, 0.28mSv for age 50 to 59, and 0.32mSv for age 60 to 69 The average dose of radiation exposure in hospital P by age group was 0.33mSv for age 20 to 29, 1.41mSv for age 30 to 39, 0.83mSv for age 40 to 49, 1.66mSv for age 50 to 59, and 1.12mSv for age 60 to 69. Moreover, the average radiation exposure to radiation-related workers over 3 year period by gender group in hospital K was $2.92{\pm}1.03mSv$ for male group and $0.94{\pm}0.93mSv$ for female group. The average radiation exposure over 3 year period by gender group in hospital P was $0.66{\pm}0.18mSv$ for male group and $1.80{\pm}0.60mSv$ for female group. Persons working in diagnostic radiology department received mean of $1.65{\pm}1.54mSv/year$, mean $1.17{\pm}0.82mSv/year$ in radiation oncology, mean $1.79{\pm}1.42mSv/year$ at nuclear medicine department and mean $0.99{\pm}0.51mSv/year$ at other departments. Radiation exposure was higher than that of other departments(p<0.05). Doctors and technologists received higher radiation exposure (mean $1.75{\pm}1.17mSv/year$, $1.60{\pm}1.39mSv/year$ each) than other workers(p<0.05). Measurement and evaluation of radiation exposure in radiation-related workers should be widely conducted accurately and consistently in the radiation-related occupational setting so that people in these occupational settings are more aware of the risk from radiation exposure, and thus give more attention and caution to decrease radiation exposure. It would be essential to minimize accumulated radiation dose in the radiation-related occupational setting in order to maintain and improve the health of radiation-related workers.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore health care workers awareness and performance of standard precautions. Methods: Participants were 296 health care workers including nurses, physicians, and medical technicians. Awareness and performance of standard precautions were measured with 4-point Likert scales. The data were analyzed with t-tests and one-way ANOVA by using SPSS 18.0. Results: The mean scores of awareness were 3.72 in nurses, 3.62 in physicians, and 3.47 in medical technicians. There was a significant difference of awareness by occupational classification (F=12.39, p<.001). The mean scores of performance of standard precautions were 3.45 in nurses, 3.19 in physicians, and 3.23 in medical technicians. There was a significant difference of performance by occupational classification (F=10.98, p<.001). In addition, the score of performance of standard precautions was significantly lower than that of awareness (t=11.89, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that awareness and performance of standard precautions were different by occupational classification. To improve performance of standard precautions in hospitals, it is necessary to provide a distinct infection control program by occupational classification.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore relationship among pain, body image and satisfaction in hand-injured workers. Methods: Using a sample of 96 out-patient workers with hand injuries, pain, body image and satisfaction were measured by VAS and Modified Jung Keum-hee's Tennesee Self Concept Scale. Repeated measured ANOVA and a Bonferroni correction for multiple statistical testing during post hoc analyses were conducted to evaluate relationship among pain, body image and satisfaction in hand-injured workers. Result: Functional satisfaction(r=.46, p<.001) and appearance satisfaction(r=.55, p<.001) significantly increased by treatment satisfaction. Functional satisfaction(r=.35, p=.001) and appearance satisfaction(r=.31, p=.002) increased by body image. But treatment satisfaction(r=-.20, p=.049), functional satisfaction (r=-.34, p=.001) and appearance satisfaction (r=-.39, p<.001) significantly decreased by pain. Conclusion: Poor pain management was related to bad body image and treatment satisfaction. Therefore, interventions targeting at pain management are needed for hand-injured workers.
Job stress experienced during work has a positive effect on the organization, such as performance improvement, but if not properly managed, it can cause physical diseases such as digestive diseases and mental diseases such as depression and neurological diseases. If job stress persists for a long time, it causes emotional exhaustion and depression, which has a significant adverse effect on individuals and organizations, so proper management is essential. Therefore, in this study, a descriptive survey study was conducted using a self-report questionnaire method to find out the relationship between job stress, emotional exhaustion and depression of medical institution workers. As a result of the analysis, it was found that job stress of medical institution workers had a significant (+) effect on emotional exhaustion and depression, and emotional exhaustion of medical institution workers had a significant (+) effect on depression. Through this study, it was found that there was a significant relationship between job stress, emotional exhaustion, and depression of hospital employees, and that emotional exhaustion acts as a parameter in the relationship between job stress and depression. Considering that job stress of hospital employees causes adverse organizational effects, such as threatening workers' mental and physical health and causing deterioration in the quality of medical services, organizational efforts will be needed to relieve and properly manage job stress of hospital employees.
