  • The current study examines the mediation effect of the work-family spillover between full-time married working women's inefficient working culture and career interruption intention. The mediation effect is tested by classifying the work-family spillover effect into two subfactors: the work-family conflict and the work-family facilitation. For this purpose, we sampled 281 full-time married working women aged between 30 and 50s and conducted a hierarchical regression analysis. The main results are as follows: both work-family conflict and work-family facilitation play the role of partial mediation. This finding implies that it is necessary to carefully examine the effects of subfactors for work-family spillover to married working women's career interruption.

  • Using data from the 2010 National Survey of Korean Families (NSKF), we investigated factors associated with marital conflict for baby boomers in South Korea. Korean baby boomers are those born during the post-Korean War period from 1955 to 1963. OLS regression examined the marital conflict of these couples. Baby boomer couples reported that they experienced occasional marital conflict; subsequently individual and family level variables explained 15% of baby boomers' marital conflict. The key findings were that satisfaction in spousal communication was negatively associated with conflict for baby boomer couples. However, the existence of unmarried adult children was positively associated with baby boomers' marital conflict. Work and family balance was also negatively associated with marital conflict. We found that the more satisfied with communication with the spouse, the fewer unmarried adult children, and the more work and family balance the couple maintained, the less marital conflict these baby boomers experienced.

  • This study examined the effects of the revised and newly established family care leave and vacation systems in 2019 on the work-family balance of female managers. A total of 1,040 female managers with experience in using the systems were selected as the analysis subjects from the 2020 Women Managers Panel data. Propensity score matching and multiple regression analysis were conducted. The propensity score matching results showed that the family care time of the users of the family care leave was significantly lower than that of non-users, and both the work-family conflict and home-work conflict levels were significantly higher for the users than the non-users. For the family care vacation, the family care time of its users was significantly higher in national and local government organizations than that if its non-users. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that the use of the family care leave had a significant positive impact on home-work conflict. These findings suggest that the current family care leave and vacation system have insufficient positive effects on work-family relationships.

  • Background: The aim of this study is to examine the prevalence of musculoskeletal complaints in Swiss operating room (OR) nurses, and to investigate how work-family conflict, work interruptions, and influence at work are related to lumbar and cervical back pain. Methods: Participants in this correlational questionnaire study included 116 OR nurses from eight different hospitals in Switzerland. Results: We found that 66% of the OR staff suffered from musculoskeletal problems. The most prevalent musculoskeletal complaints were lumbar (52.7%) and cervical pain (38.4%). Furthermore, 20.5% reported pain in the mid spine region, 20.5% in the knees and legs, and 9.8% in the hands and feet. Multiple linear regression analyses showed that work-family conflict (p < 0.05) and interruptions (p < 0.05) significantly predicted lumbar and cervical pain in OR nurses, while influence at work (p < 0.05) only predicted lumbar pain. Conclusion: These results suggest that reducing the work-family conflict and interruptions at work, as well as offering opportunities to influence one's workplace, help to promote OR nurses' health.
