  • The purpose of this study was to examine the impacts of various stressors among dual-earner families on parenting stress and marital satisfaction. Using a survey data collected from 168 dual-earner couples, this study investigated impact of various stressors, including husband division of labor, the satisfaction of childcare arrangement, husband's support on wife's outside work, family socioeconomic status, and strains from job. The finding suggested that, after controlling background variables(length of marriage, the number of children, and family income), high husbands' support on wife's outside work and low strains about their work hours had influenced on higher parenting stress among fathers, while high strains about their work hours had related to high parenting stress among mothers. It also found that high satisfaction on childcare arrangement and low depression were the factors predicting higher marital satisfaction of mothers, and high support on their wife's outside work, low work role strain, low depression, and low parenting stress had influenced on higher marital satisfaction among fathers. Discussions and recommendations for future research were added.

  • Background: Research on the impact of psychosocial risks on well-being at work remains scarce in low- and middle-income countries, especially in the banking sector. This study sought to examine the relationships between job demands, job resources, well-being, job satisfaction, and work engagement in the Zimbabwean banking sector. Methods: An online survey was administered to 259 employees from five banks. Hierarchical multiple regression tested the relationships between job demands (quantitative demands, emotional demands, work pace, and work-family conflict), job resources (possibilities for development, social support from colleagues and supervisors, quality of leadership, and influence at work), well-being, work engagement, and job satisfaction. Interactions between all variables were tested. Results: Job demands were negatively related to well-being, work engagement, and job satisfaction. Job resources had positive relationships with the same. Work pace had positive relationships with well-being and work engagement. Influence at work moderated the relationship between emotional demands and work pace with well-being. Possibilities for development moderated the relationship between work-family conflict and well-being. Work-family conflict moderated the relationship between social support from colleagues and job satisfaction. Emotional demands, work pace, and quantitative demands moderated the relationship between influence at work with job satisfaction and work engagement. Conclusion: Job demands should be reduced where possible in order to enhance employee well-being, work engagement, and job satisfaction. The job resources that should be availed to facilitate a positive psychosocial work environment in the banking sector include social support from supervisors, influence at work, and possibilities for development.

The need for job training was 4.15 in average. The respondents wanted to have training on how to make a dental health insurance claim to receive payment other than any training with the mean score of 4.42. The work satisfaction of the respondents was 3.65 in average. The respondents were most satisfied with their work in dental assistance. 2. By the category of job tasks, the levels of importance of job tasks, job training requirement and work satisfaction were higher in plague removal with an ultrasonic scaler related to clinical oral prophylaxis, pit and fissure sealants related to preventive dental treatment and instruction in the correct usage of toothbrush related to public dental health education 3. In dealing with dental radiation machines, the radiation protection was considered the most important. While the training for periapical radiography was most needed, the respondents were satisfied with working in the same area. The levels of job importance, training requirement and work satisfaction were high in preventive dental care in the community performed in relation to the public dental health care. 4. In the dental health insurance claim category, the levels of importance of job task, training requirement and work satisfaction were higher in insurance claiming. The levels of job importance and training requirement were high in dental clinic management and assistance to dentists performed for preventive dental treatment. • Background: Nursing home resident care is an ongoing topic of public discussion, and there is great interest in improving the quality of resident care. This study investigated the association between nursing home employees' job satisfaction and residents' satisfaction with care and medical outcomes. Methods: Employee and resident satisfaction were measured by questionnaire in 175 skilled nursing facilities in the eastern United States from 2005 to 2009. Facility-level data on residents' pressure ulcers, medically unexplained weight loss, and falls were obtained from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Long-Term Care Minimum Data Set. The association between employee satisfaction and resident satisfaction was examined with multiple and multilevel linear regression. Associations between employee satisfaction and the rates of pressure ulcers, weight loss, and falls were examined with simple and multilevel Poisson regression. Results: A 1-point increase in overall employee satisfaction was associated with an increase of 17.4 points (scale 0-100) in the satisfaction of residents and family members (p < 0.0001) and a 19% decrease in the incidence of resident falls, weight loss, and pressure ulcers combined (p < 0.0001), after adjusting for staffing ratio and percentage of resident-days paid by Medicaid. Conclusion: Job satisfaction of nursing home employees is associated with lower rates of resident injuries and higher resident satisfaction with care. A supportive work environment may help increase quality of care in the nation's nursing homes.

  • We analyze how much employees' work abilities and overall satisfaction on the job or corporate influence on the productivity and customer satisfaction in the service industry, which is characterized by simultaneity, heterogeneity, intangibility and etc. Employees always encounter customers in process of the service. So, the employees' attitudes and behaviors have direct influences on the service quality or satisfaction which customers perceive. Also, employees' satisfaction or work abilities can lead to increase or decrease the productivity. To grasp and demonstrate the cause and effect relationship, we firstly measure the degrees of employee satisfaction organized by 11 factors through survey, and also measure employees' overall satisfaction, organizational commitment and productivity. Secondly, we define service value as the employee's objective measure index and collect it with the data related to customer satisfaction. Based on the collected data, thirdly we define how the relationship among the employee satisfaction, the productivity, the service value and the customer satisfaction are affected by the employees' work abilities and overall satisfaction with SEM(Structural Equation Model). And finally, we classify employees according to their abilities and the degrees of satisfaction respectively and suggest important strategies to manage them effectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate relations among job-related attributes of dental technicians. Findings of the study can be summarized as follows. Differences in four job-related attributes among dental technicians in accordance with their titles were investigated to find that dental lab managers were higher in job satisfaction than chief and assistant technicians of the lab. Dental lab managers were given the best work climate, followed by chief technicians of hospital, those of dental lab and assistant technicians. Job competence was highest in part of the managers, followed by chief assistants of hospital, those of dental lab and assistant technicians. But work facilities that were being used by dental technicians were not significantly different in quality in accordance with their titles. Assistant technicians were lower in job satisfaction, given work climate and job competence than managers and chief technicians of both hospital and dental lab. Under same work conditions, female dental technicians were higher in job satisfaction than male ones. Dental technicians' job satisfaction were most affected by work climate, followed by job competence and the quality of work facilities in order. In other words, job satisfaction was higher when work climate was better, job competence was higher or when work facilities were better. Job satisfaction was generally lower in part of male dental technicians than female ones. Considering the fact that job satisfaction is most influenced by work climate, more careful attention should be paid to assistant technicians who while on duty, usually have not so good relationship with seniors or colleagues. Those technicians also usually have few or no opportunity of obtaining latest knowledge or skills, so they should be allowed time for seminars or lectures in which such knowledge or skills are educated. It is also important to raise assistant technicians' pride about their job by empowering them by authorization or giving more remuneration or other rewards for their improved job competence.
