The data were analyzed by using mean standard deviation, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. The results are following. 1. The means of age, body weight, height of the women were 27.02 years, 56.02 years, 56.03kg, 161.71cm, respectively. The level of obesity by body shape was 47.7% for standard type, 26.2% for slim type, 26.1% for fat type. Those women graduated from high school or higher education institutions were 97.7%. 2. More than 70% of the subjects perceived their weight as overweight, while 26.1% of the women were fat according to the level of obesity. High percentages of the women reported the decrease the amount of eating(54.5%), the increase the amount of exercise(27.3%) as the effective methods of weight control. 4. The score of body image differed significantly by the perceived body shape : the score was highest in the perceived standard type. 5. The level of health complaints did not differ by the perceived body shape. In relation to the level of obesity, physical health complaints were high in the groups of very slim type and of very fat type, while mental health complaints were high in the groups of very slim type and of fat type. 6. Older people have increased interest and involvement in controlling their aging body through physical exercise and dieting. This study examined the relationship between body image and the participation of older people in exercise and dieting. Two measures of body image (appearance attitude and appearance orientation) were used to study their relationships to participation in exercise and dieting among older people. Data were collected via a mail survey of older married couples residing in three U.S. metropolitan areas of Florida. A total of 94 couples who were 60 years older participated in this study. Multiple regression was run separately for men and women. The results indicated that for both men and women, appearance attitude was inversely related to dieting and positively related with exercise (even though the relationship with exercise was weak for men). Appearance orientation was not significantly related to exercise or dieting for both men and women. A new scale development on body image for an aging population was suggested. Various activities performed by aging people to manage their aging body and appearance need to be studied as related to physical and psychological well-being that includes body image.

This study establishes public self-consciousness, sociocultural attitudes toward appearance, and objectified body consciousness as causal variables to identify their direct or indirect effects. This study is an aggregate analysis of existing studies that reveals the relations of how these factors turn to be the image management behaviors. A survey was conducted on 962 women from the ages of 20 to 59 who live in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk areas. The data analysis was performed through programs such as AMOS 16.0 and SPSS 18.0 for Windows. The findings are as follows: first, public self-consciousness had a direct effect on the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and on objectified body consciousness, whereas it affected image management behaviors directly or indirectly. This means that as women become aware of others' attention, they recognize the social importance of appearance, internalize ideal social standards, and observe and evaluate their own bodies from a third person's viewpoint regarding the standards for a body required by society; in addition, these procedures lead them to manage their image behaviors. Second, the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance had a direct influence on objectified body consciousness; however, they had an indirect effect on image management behaviors. This demonstrates that body consciousness plays a role as a mediator between the sociocultural attitudes toward appearance and the image management behaviors. Third, it appeared that objectified body consciousness directly affected image management behaviors. Objectified body consciousness was identified as a causal variable that exerts immediate influence on image management behaviors where the more objectified body consciousness women objectified themselves as the body standards that created further image management behaviors.

For this study, twenty seven different types of tailored jacket were designed with some variation of their silhouette, the length and the collar's figure on three hundred and twenty three middle-aged women ranging from 35 to 50 years old. There was a significant difference in the image evaluation and the preference of tailored jacket according to the body type of middle-aged women. The women of the body type I evaluated that tailored jackets of the long length were more attractive, graceful, and active, soft and preferred the style, and the women of the body type II and III, them of the middle length. The women of the body type I evaluated that tailored jackets of the short length were more attractive, graceful, active, soft and preferred the style. Also there was a meaningful difference in the image evaluation and the preference of tailored jacket according to the degree of satisfaction with their bodies. As satisfied with their face size, they thought tailored jackets of the long length were more attractive, graceful and active, soft and they preferred the style. As satisfied with the girth of the hip, they evaluated the short/long tailored jackets were more attractive, graceful and active, soft and they preferred the style. Thinness has become a symbol for beauty, acceptance and competence for women in our society, and pressure to diet because of this unrealistic standard is one factor reponsible for the increasing incidence of eating disorder. Three hundred fifty college women in the Chonbuk area were surveyed from May to June 1998, to investigate the relationship among body image, eating disorder, dietary intakes, self esteem and sex role identity. This study identified a subgroup of women who were relatively satisfied with their body weight and who did not diet. The dissatisfied/dieting women had the highest BMI, binge eating disorder and night eating syndrom, had significantly lower calorie, protein, iron, vitamin B$_1$, and vitamin B$_2$ intake compared with the satisfied/non-dieting women. The dissatisfied /dieting women, who had lower self-esteem compared with the satisfied/non-dieting women, but the frequency of sex role identity was similga among the groups of women. BMI and binge eating disorder were positively correlated(r=0.157, p<.01), but BMI and self esteem were negatively correlated(r=-0.202, p<0.01). Especially, binge eating disorder and self esteem were negatively correlated (r=-0.126, p<0.05).
