A Study of Relay scheme for shadow area in WiBro network (와이브로 네트워크에서 음영지역에 대한 중계방식에 관한 연구)

  • Recently WiBro network is installed for high speed wireless internet service by telecommunication service provider, however WiBro service is not provided in the region of mountain or difficult region to install network infra. Fixed repeater is used to resolve those shadow area problem in current WiBro network. This paper study introducing Ad-hoc based multi-hop relay instead of using fixed repeater in order to resolve those shadow area problem. Cost down of fixed repeater and active network expansion is possible to resolve shadow area problem by introducing multi-hop relay technology.

  • Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) is one of the air interface techniques proposed for the third generation (3G) mobile communication system. WCDMA was selected because it fulfills the IMT-2000 requirements for higher data rate trans mission, support of multimedia capabilities and other flexible services due to its variable bit rates and larger bandwidth, improved capacity and coverage, efficient power control and support for advanced and improved detector structures. Performance evaluation of 3G wireless network through simulation plays an important role in the design and implementation of the actual system, aiding the wireless system designer by providing them the necessary performance conformance statistics prior to implementation. In accordance with this goal, a simulator engine was developed entirely on a MATLAB platform to emulate the behaviour of the WCDMA air interface for both the uplink and downlink in a real world fading mobile environment. This paper discuss the development of the simulator along with a brief description of its functionalities and user interface. The WCDMA air interface mode focused in this paper is in accordance to the 3GPPs frequency division duplex (FDD) mode and restricted to the physical layer description. Performance results for the selected cases for the downlink, uplink, varying mobile velocity and sampling rates are also provided.

  • There are various analysis functions(including prediction of path loss, analyzing of capacity and coverage, etc.) of simulation tool to design and optimize the mobile communication network. Its reliability absolutely effects the performance of mobile communication network. Especially as the wireless network highly advancing focused on data service, it more needs to research and develop on the standard establishment of reliability of the simulation tool. Also it is important the systematic research how to improve the reliability of simulation tool. In this paper, to give the concrete process and skill about how to improve reliability, we define the kinds of reliability at first. And then we explain the comparison results between real field measurement data and theoretic simulation data.

Efficient Content Sharing in Ad Hoc Networks (애드 혹 네트워크에서의 효율적인 콘텐츠 공유 방법)

  • Mobile devices become a pak of our daily life due to their versatility, such as the wireless phone calls, the wireless accessibility to Internet, the display of multimedia content, and the communication with nearby mobile devices. Third generation telecommunication service provides an easy access to the Internet for nubile devices. Mobile users pay a fee charged by the telecommunication provider based on the amount of data transferred. This paper introduces a special ad hoc network in which mobile devices cooperate each other to download an interesting content from the Internet in order to reduce the telecommunication cost. The mobile devices, called the peers, in the ad hoc network are assigned a portion of the target file, and are responsible for downloading the portion using their 3G connection. Then, the peers exchange their downloaded portion with other participating peers using their cost-free ad hoc connection in order to reconstruct the whole content. According to the simulation results, large number of participating peers saves the telecommunication cost up to 90% with as few as 10 peers, although it slightly increase the overall content reconstruction time.

An Integrated Approach for Position Estimation using RSSI in Wireless Sensor Network

  • Received signal strength indicator (RSSI) is used as one of the ranging techniques to locate dynamic sensor nodes in wireless sensor network. Before it can be used for position estimation, RSSI values must be converted to distances using path loss model. These distances among sensor nodes are combined using trilateration method to find position. This paper presents an idea which attempts to integrate both path loss model and trilateration as one algorithm without going through RSSI-distance conversion. This means it is not simply formulas combination but a whole new model was developed. Several advantages were found after integration: it is able to reduce processing load, and ensure that all values do not exceed the maximum range of 16-bit signed or unsigned numbers due to antilog operation in path loss model. The results also show that this method is able to reduce estimation error while inaccurate environmental parameters are used for RSSI-distance conversion.

  • Since various type of wireless/mobile network likes WLAN, WIBRO, HSDPA were come to us, technology providing high quality multimedia service while user move are actively researched such as MIH (Media Independent Handover) proposed by IEEE for interworking between heterogeneous network and CMIP (Client Mobile IP), PMIP (Proxy Mobile IP) for mobility. Despite the technology about interworking and handover between heterogeneous network are actively researched, handover decision method need to be researched. In this paper we suggest a simple and effective handover method for high quality multimedia service in real wireless environment. For this, we use MIH+CMIP platform for target multimedia service to make handover decision rule in WIBRO and HSDPA networks. After apply this rule, we verified effectiveness of handover decision method through real test.

  • Recently PC games are trending toward online. But, mobile games are not using network actively. Because there are two problems that low speed of mobile network and low specification of mobile device in wireless internet environment. But, solving problems by these started HSDPA services and increased performance of devices.   • Powering wireless sensors with energy harvested from the environment is coming of age due to the increasing power densities of both storage and harvesting devices and the electronics performing energy efficient energy conversion. In order to maximize the functionality of the wireless sensor network, minimize missing packets, minimize latency and prevent the waste of energy, problems like congestion and inefficient energy usage must be addressed. Many sleep-awake protocols and efficient message priority techniques have been developed to properly manage the energy of the nodes and to minimize congestion. For a WSN that is operating in a strictly energy constrained environment, an energy-efficient transmission strategy is necessary. In this paper, we present a novel transmission priority decision scheme for a heterogeneous body sensor network composed of normal nodes and an energy harvesting node that acts as a cluster head. The energy harvesting node's decision whether or not to clear a normal node for sending is based on a set of metrics which includes the energy harvesting node's remaining energy, the total harvested energy, the type of message in a normal node's queue and finally, the implementation context of the wireless sensor network.

  • As telecommunication technologies in telemedicine services are developed, the expeditious development of wireless and mobile networks has stimulated wide applications of mobile electronic healthcare systems. However, security is an essential system requirement since many patients have privacy concerns when it comes to releasing their personal information over the open wireless channels. Due to the invisible feature of mobile signals, hackers have easier access to hospital networks than wired network systems. This may result in several security incidents unless security protocols are well prepared. In this paper, we analyzed authentication and authorization procedures for healthcare system architecture to apply secure M-health systems in the hospital environment. From the analyses, we estimate optimal requirements as a countermeasure to its vulnerabilities.

  • In this paper, we embodied the environment monitoring system that can acquire correct data in real-time. And we used module that is 2.4GHz IEEE 802.15.4 / Zigbee network for radio communication between nodes. The nodes sense the data of temperature, humidity, illumination periodically. The nodes store the data in their buffer and transmit. We confirmed that the system is in real-time as it is changed instantly due to the varying environment by the simulation Therefore, we can construct the efficient and correct system as applied this system to monitor the environment.
