  • Currently, the commonly used tunneling method in Korea is NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method). This method uses the rock bolt, shotcrete, and supporting system to maintain the strength of original soil and ensures the stability of tunnel by stabilizing the soil using the original strength of the soil in maximum after the excavation. In past years, wire-mesh reinforced shotcrete was common ones but currently steel-fiber reinforced shotcrete is being widely used for the tunnel construction site in Korea to save construction time with the advanced construction technology. The results further indicate that needs for the establishment of not only the specifications for shotcrete but the strengthening methods for the under reinforced shotcrete sections. Therefore, this study deals with the development of a new steel-fiber to ensure the stability of tunnels that are under reinforced with steel-fibers and to overcome the shortcomings of conventional method.

  • In this study, an experiment in the field was performed to analyze the influence of steel fiber and silica fume on the rebound ratios of shotcrete. The experimental parameters which are the reinforcing methods(steel fiber, wire mesh), steel fiber contents(0.0%, 0.5%. 0.75%, 1.0%), silica fume contents(0.0%, 10.0%), and the three placing parts(side wall, shoulder, crown) were chosun. According to the results for the side wall in this test, the larger the fiber contents are in case of steel fiber reinforced shotcrete, the less the rebound ratios are within the range of 20~35%, compared to the wire mesh reinforced shotcrte. And also, the reduced rebound ratios were vary larger in using steel fiber reinforced shotcrete with silica fume content of 10%, and these results are true of the shoulder and the crown, respectively. In addition, the four-stage phenomenon for the rebound of the SFRS were estimated in the view of the co-action between steel fiber and coarse aggregate based upon the existing two-stage analysis method.

  • Wireless Mesh Network technology refers to the technology which establishes wireless network whose transmission speed is similar to that of the wire system, and provides more enhanced flexibility in the building of network, compared to the existing wired network. In addition, it has the feature of less mobility and less restriction from the energy effect. However, there follow many considerations such as system overhead in the case of setting or the selection of multi-path. Accordingly, the focus is on the design and optimization of network which can reflect this network feature and the technology to establish path. This paper suggests the methods on the programming of path in Wireless Mesh Network routing by applying the evaluation value of node service, making use of the loss rate of data, the hop count of bandwidth and link and the traffic status of node, considering the performance of link and load in the fitness evaluation function, in order to respond to the programming of multi-path effectively.

  • This research explains a simulation method of cable crosstalk using Microwave Studio(MWS), Matlab and analyzes the crosstalk of Twisted Wire Pairs(TWP) applied to the aerospace or the military. TWP have a periodic configuration of long twisted wires along a axis. It is impossible to conduct the simulation of TWP due to the increased meshs according to the long length configuration. Transmission matrix(T-matrix) cascading method which is suitable to analyze the periodic configuration has been adopted to get the crosstalk of total cable so that the total simulation time has been decreased. In this paper, the crosstalk analysis of TWP including the connector modeled to straight sections has been performed.

  • The thermal performance of a flat evaporator for capillary pumped loop (CPL) applications was investigated. Two to four layers of coarse wire screen wicks were placed onto the heated surface to provide irregular passages for vapor flow. The evaporator and condenser were separated by a distance of 1.2 m and connected by individual liquid and vapor lines. The wall material was copper and the working fluid was ethanol. The experimental facility utilized a combination of capillary and gravitational forces for liquid return, and distribution over the evaporator surface. The tubing used for vapor and liquid lines was 9.35 mm or less in diameter and heat was removed from the condenser by convection of air. A heat flux of up to $4.9{\times}10^4$ $W/m^2$ was applied to a flat evaporator having dimensions of 100 mm by 200 mm, 20 mm thick. The thermal resistance of the system as well as the temperature characteristics of the system was investigated as the evaporator heat flux and the condenser cooling capacity varied. The performance of the evaporator and effect of condenser cooling capacity were analyzed and discussed.

  • As the power demands increases, one of the most important data is inside electric field of equipment in designing of insulators ami insulated wire for EHV distribution line. So far finite element analysis method is widely used to calculate this electric field. However as the shape of insulator becomes complicated, it is difficult in producing the mesh which suitable the shape. Especially, we have many difficulty that produce dense fine mesh only where the electric field is concentrated. Therefore in this paper, we perform the each conditional analysis of electric field using the Maxwell 3D Simulator to recover this defects. And we try to analyze electric field through the conventional 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional analysis in case of salt contamination on the surface of a insulator.

  • The influence of density differences on the mixing of the primary loop inventory and the Emergency Core Cooling (ECC) water in the downcomer of a Pressurised Water Reactor (PWR) was analyzed at the ROssendorf COolant Mixing (ROCOM) test facility. ROCOM is a 1:5 scaled model of a German PWR, and has been designed for coolant mixing studies. It is equipped with advanced instrumentation, which delivers high-resolution information for temperature or boron concentration fields. This paper presents a ROCOM experiment in which water with higher density was injected into a cold leg of the reactor model. Wire-mesh sensors measuring the tracer concentration were installed in the cold leg and upper and lower part of the downcomer. The experiment was run with 5% of the design flow rate in one loop and 10% density difference between the ECC and loop water especially for the validation of the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS CFX. A mesh with two million control volumes was used for the calculations. The effects of turbulence on the mean flow were modelled with a Reynolds stress turbulence model. The results of the experiment and of the numerical calculations show that mixing is dominated by buoyancy effects: At higher mass flow rates (close to nominal conditions) the injected slug propagates in the circumferential direction around the core barrel. Buoyancy effects reduce this circumferential propagation. Therefore, density effects play an important role during natural convection with ECC injection in PWRs. ANSYS CFX was able to predict the observed flow patterns and mixing phenomena quite well.

  • In Peru, construction of dwellings using confined masonry walls (CM) has a high percentage of acceptance within many sectors of the population. It is estimated that only in Lima, 80% of the constructions use CM and at least 70% of these are informal constructions. This mean that they are built without proper technical advice and generally have a high seismic vulnerability. One way to reduce this vulnerability is by reinforcing the walls. However, despite the existence of some reinforcement methods in the market, not all of them can be applied massively because there are other parameters to take into account, as economical, criteria for seismic improvement, reinforcement ratio, etc. Therefore, in this paper the feasibility of using five reinforcement techniques has been studied and compared. These reinforcements are: welded mesh (WM), glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP), carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), steel bar wire mesh (CSM), steel reinforced grout (SRG). The Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) method can be useful to evaluate the most optimal strengthening technique for a fast, effective and massive use plan in Peru. The results of using MCDM with 10 criteria indicate that the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) and Steel Reinforced Grout (SRG) methods are the most suitable for a massive reinforcement application in Lima.

  • A new type of passive samplers were designed and produced by authors. After evaluating the quality of activated carbon by measuring recovery rate of organic vapors and steadiness of sampling rate, activated carbon with 30 - 35 mesh produced by Company S in Korea was selected. In each passive sampler, an amount of 400 mg of the activated carbon was filled in 25-mm cassette and covered by fixed screen (or wire screen with 100 mesh). In addition to the fixed screen, a wind screen (or wire screen with 300 mesh) was also attached at outer face. The sampling rate of the new Korean passive samplers was estimated Conclusions obtained in the study are as follows. 1. Sampling rates of the newly developed Korean passive samplers were affected by sampling time. For n-hexane, sampling rates of 15- and 60-minute samples were 70.92 and 37.45 ml/min, respectively. Sampling rate of both 200- and 450-minute samples was 25.96 ml/min. It is concluded that, when passive samplers are used for measuring organic vapors, samples be collected longer than 60 minutes. 2. Sampling rate of the passive samplers was also affected by airborne concentration of organic vapors. Lower sampling rates were determined at level of 1/2 threshold limit values (TLVs) recommended by the American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH). It is recommended that sampling rate of the passive samplers be obtained at site by measuring concentrations using both the NIOSH Method and passive samplers simultaneously. 3. When the passive samplers, which collected organic vapors, were exposed to clean air for five hours, there was no significant loss of organic vapors due to reverse diffusion. 4. When samples were stored at room temperature ($21.8{\pm}0.7^{\circ}C$) and refrigerator ($3.8{\pm}0.7^{\circ}C$), there was no significant difference in the accuracy of results. For trichloroethylene and n-hexane, accuracies were within 25 % at both temperatures until seven days. However, poor accuracy exceeding 25 % was indicated in toluene from the first day. It is recommended that samples be stored at freezing temperature below $0^{\circ}C$. 5. Sampling efficiency was significantly affected by direction of the passive samplers. Results of samplers facing wind and down, respectively, were compared. Lower amount of organic vapors were collected when the sampler was oriented down. It is recommended that, when air velocity is low in plants, the passive samplers be oriented to the wind. However, when air velocity is high, the passive samplers be oriented down.
