Development of Reinforcement Side Outer Using TWB Hot Stamping Process (TWB 핫스탬핑 공법 적용을 통한 일체형 사이드아우터 부품 개발)

  • In the automotive industry, TWB hot stamping process is broadly adapted to reduce weight of the car and improve fuel efficiency. However, the process faces a problem of weakened strength of the welded zone after hot stamping process, due to the fact that Al-Si elements of the coating layer penetrating the welded zone. In this study, filler wires with high percentages of carbon and manganese is adapted during laser welding process to secure the strength of the fusion zone. In addition, wire feeding speed and laser welding speed are optimized by sample test.

  • Recently, welding technology of nonferrous metals which were difficult to implement by arc welder has become available through digitalization of arc welding machine. Among them, the welding quality improvement of aluminum welding is very noticeable. These results increase the arc stability by controlling arc current and voltage waveform precisely, and control wire feed speed by synchronizing with arc current which the feed rate of filler wire is controlled by a precise motor control of servomotor and not by a simple constant speed feeding. Not only through the hardware digitalization of arc welding machine but also through advance of software of arc welding, it became possible to implement a certain level of welding quality by a simple operation. These led to CMT welding process implementation which requires low heat input than current arc welding and highly increased the applicability of the aluminum welding.

  • In modern industries, materials are required that possess multi-functional properties and at the same time flexibility in their shapes with structural stability. The major technology realizing this requirement consists of thinning metal wires and laying them with stable contact nodes. This research has dealt with a new method to manufacture thin wires by drawing without applying dies, but with introducing enforced necking, which enables to process multi-ends. Based on the new method, the process dynamics was modelled and its steady-state characteristics were analyzed. Results showed that the profiles of the material velocity in the drawing zone increased with a downward convex shape, while the cross-sectional area decreased with the shape of upward convex. The microwave heating turned out to be effective in wire drawing, but dependent on the input feeding direction. The variation in the diameters of the drawn wires was negatively affected by increasing the drawing ratio.

  • An OrthoMTA compacter is made by machining a Ni-Ti alloy wire using tapered helix creep-feed grinding machines. This aim of this study is to find the optimal dressing conditions to sharpen the corner of a cubic boron nitride (CBN) wheel. On the basis of the results of various experiments, it is verified that the most important factors in dressing are the dressing depth and feeding method, whereas the feed rate has less importance for producing a smaller corner R value. The study also finds the optimum dressing depth to reduce the dressing time, a feeding speed and method to stabilize the machining, and the mesh grade for the CBN wheel to make the groove of the compacter deeper.

Experimental Performance Evaluation on V-shaped Butt Welding Using GMA Welding Double Wire Reel and Remote Control Torch Welding Technique (GMAW 더블 와이어 릴, 원격제어토치 용접기술을 이용한 V형 맞대기 용접 부의 실험적 성능 평가)

  • This study discusses a remote control torch system equipped with a GMAW double wire reel. The welding machine is 30m away from the wire feeder at the industrial site and the feeder is three to five meters away from the torch. Accordingly, the welders cannot control the current and voltage that meets the welding condition during work when they are working at a place that prevents them from seeing the control panel, such as inside a vehicle or tank or at a far work site. They also have no choice but to stop working to change the wire reel when it is burned out completely. Such work suspension resulting from frequent moves to adjust the current and voltage as well as to replace the wire and subsequent cooling causes welding defects. This study produced a remote control torch equipped with a double wire reel by simplifying and streamlining the existing GMAW functions to reduce the troubling issue. The remote control torch equipped with a double wire reel and the existing $CO_2$ /MAG welding torch were applied as a V-groove butt in the vertical position using 6mm rolled steel for a SM50A welding structure. After welding, the condition of welded surface beads underwent a visual inspection and radiographic inspection to analyze the welding quality inside the welded part. This study also evaluated the reduction of welding defects, cost saving, the replacing performance against the existing commercial welders, and the effects on possible compatibility.

  • Recently, lots of joining methods of thin metal sheets are being developed in order to improve joint quality and productivity in manufacturing area. Current existing welding methods are continuously challenged as new materials and smaller thickness of metal sheets are required. In this study, laser plug brazing process was investigated as a new joining method of thin metal sheets. A CO2 laser system with automatic feeding of filler metal wire and flux was developed, and laser plug brazing experiments were conducted. The brazed joints were analyzed using various methods.

  • A CCD camera with a laser strip was applied to realize the automation of welding process in GMAW. The Hough transformation was used to extract the laser stripe and to obtain specific weld points. In this study, a neural network based on the generalized delta rule algorithm was adapted for the process control of GMA, such as welding speed, arc voltage and wire feeding speed.

Development of Transportational Guide System for Joining Small Wire with Gabion (개비온 끝단 소둔선 결합용 이송 가이드 장치 개발 연구)

  • Gabion can be used for the purpose of preventing overflow of river and side loss of road. However the manufacturing process of the gabion is manually controlled especially to the joining process at the terminal part of gabion with small diameter wire. In this paper automatic feeding guide system was designed and fabricated to make automation. The fabricated system was tested in the factory level. Pneumatic system was considered as the main idea of the feeding system. 3/2-way and 5/2-way manual control valve, eight double-acting cylinders were used. The system took 46.48 seconds during a cycle. Additional environmental noise and vibration were not detected when the machine operated at the working area. Based on the theoretical simulation and actual test the fabricated system was well controlled. The system was applied to the patent in 2006.

A Case of Pierre - Robin Syndrome (Pierre-Robin Syndrome 1례)

  • In 1923 Pierre-Robin first described the triad of micrognathia, glossptosis and high-arched or cleft palate. Respiratory distress is not an uncommon occurrence and requires prompt and appropriate treatment. The syndrome occurs once in approximately 50,000 births. Although the etiology of the syndrome is obscure, it is known that the syndrome probably results from a primary deficiency early in fetal life of mandibular development. The symptoms of airway obstruction develop as the base of the tongue falls posteriorly and approximates the posterior pharyngeal wall because of micrognathia, and is aggravated when the infant is in the supine position. The problems of mild airway obstruction can be solved by keeping the infant in the prone position. In case there are feeding difficulties, prompt glossopexy should be preformed as airway is aggravated, but tracheostomy is best avoided. There is some forms of glossopexy including Douglas operation, the insertion of Kirschner wire and Duhamel suture. We identified micrognathia, glossoptosis and high-arched palate in a 2-month-old infant who was brought to our hospital with complaints of dyspnea and feeding difficulties, and we reports this case, since we think this infant whom we observe after tracheostomy because we found Duhamel suture could not relieve the symptoms of airway obstruction as Pierre-Robin syndrome.

  • AC traction power supply system has adopted autotransformer (AT) feeding method. This system has an advantage as long feeding distance. However, the countermeasure for voltage drop should be considered, because load capacity grows larger and headway grows shorter in recent electric railway system. This paper proposes the improved system configuration to enhance voltage drop in ac railway system without additional power electronic device. That is to increase turn ratio between contact wire and rail of AT. By modifying turn ratio of AT at SSP or SP, collecting voltage on train will be enhanced.
