  • During operation of generator, the excitation force with 120Hz always exist irrespective of No. of poles. Therefore the vibration is generated in the stator end windings and the micro-crack is grown up inside the bars. After all, coolant water is leaked outside the bars or the stator is moved and is worn out. What is more, one bar is touched with another bar so a short circuit may frequently happen in operation. In order to prevent it from occurring, the evaluation of mechanical integrity for generator stator windings is carried out periodically during overhaul period. This help troublesome end windings to complement with insulation material and to change vibration characteristics. In this paper, the evaluation of mechanical integrity for generator stator windings is described and the change of vibration characteristics is analysed.

  • In this paper, The cast resin transformer's vibration is measured using noncontact raser vibrometer(LV110D). The vibration characteristics of transformer windings and core are analyzed for relation between vibration magnitude and cause. Using the analysis results, the technique is presented to diagnose cast resin transformer. which is able to diagnose transformer' deformation in winding and core geometry. The magnetostriction and electromagnetic force act on the core and windings, causing them to vibrate. The vibration from windings and core penetrates into transformer cast resin and reaches the outside walls. The fundamental frequency of the core and windings vibration signal is twice that of the power frequency(120Hz). The results show that the magnitude of core vibration is linear to driving voltage amplitude and magnitude of windings vibration is increased to loading current under the some level and then stabilized.

  • This paper presents the design and test results of a 10kVA single phase HTS transformer which is operating at 77K. Double pancake windings with BSCCO -2223 HTS tape and GFRP cryostat with room temperature bore are used in the transformer. Four double pan cake windings were used in pancake windings are connected in parallel to conduct the secondary current of 45.4A. the rated voltages of each winding are 440/220V. Numerical calculation using Finite Element Method was used to evaluated the performance of each arrangement. Considering the magnetizing reactance, leakage reactance, electrical insulation and the circulating current in low voltage winding which had two windings in parallel, HLLH arrangement was finally chosen. Estimation of the AC loss, magnetizing loss and self field loss, in the design stage, where effects of perpendicular field and parallel field are considered. Room temperature bore type cryostat has been constructed and its heat loss was measured.

  • This paper describes the work performed by computer simulation to achieve a satisfactory method of predicting the short circuit withstand strength of transformer which, may be too big for test due to physical or economic reasons. In fact, the windings of power transformer are subjected to extremely severe stresses under short-circuit condition. From our work, however, were computed such stresses as buckling, tending and compression occurring in transformer windings.

  • Nondestructive and destructive tests were performed the stator windings of three high voltage motors prior to the rewind. Nondestructive tests included ac current increase rate($\Delta$I), dissipation factor(${\Delta}tan{\delta}$), and maximum partial discharge(Qm) The destructive tests included breakdown at three phases with ac voltage. Flashover occurred between the connected winding of endwinding and the stator flame. In two cases creeping discharge occurred between the individual phase windings and the wedges In the stator ends. The results of destructive tests could rarely be determined the breakdown voltage.

  • The water leak in water-cooled generator stator windings can generate the serious accidents such as insulation breakdown and it brings a generator to the unexpected sudden outage. Accordingly, it is important to diagnose the water absorption of them for the effective operation of power plant. Especially, the capacitance value which is measured for diagnosis is very small so the special diagnosis methods like stochastic theory are needed. KEPRI developed the water absorption test equipment and diagnosis technology for them. The developed diagnosis technology is applied to the real system and the results of water absorption test for stator windings are agreed to them of water leak test.

  • The requirements of a successful design for single phase induction motors with a high efficiency have, in recent years, led to the use of non-quadrature stator windings motors in which a high starting torque is a prime requisite. The capacitor motor is one of above machines in which various possible forms of asymmetry can be occur. These forms of asymmetry in the stator phase windings, encountered in machine designs, are 1) an asymmetrical disposition in space of their magnetic axes, 2) a difference in their effective number of turns, 3) a difference in the distribution of their coil groups per pole and 4) amounts of capacitance of an auxiary winding. In order to apply the effective performance prediction of these form to motors, mading of lower quality-domestic magnetic materials, the analysis and the experimental investigations of its sample motors are described in this paper. The utility of such a motor is demonstrated and it is shown that the effects- a good efficiency, good power factor and high starting torque-of the motor mechanism with non-quadrature stator phase windings can development disadvantages by using the lower quality-domestis magnetic materials.

  • Recent publications showed that a pair of neighboring printed circuit board (PCB) windings can be used as a contactless energy transfer device. As a continued study on this area, the current paper presents the modeling, analysis, and application of the neighboring PCB windings with an emphasis on their circuit properties and device characteristics as a contactless energy transfer device. Theoretical results of the paper are confirmed with experiments on a prototype contactless energy transfer circuit that delivers 24W output power at $68\%$ efficiency through two 35mm-diameter PCB windings separated each other by 2.4mm.

  • 1MVA high temperature superconducting (HTS) transformer with double pancake windings made of BSCCO-2223 HTS tapes was designed and manufactured. And prototype transformer with the same capacity was manufactured also. The each rated voltage of the HTS transformer is 22.9 kV and 6.6 kV. Four parallel BSCCO-2223 HTS tapes were wound in the double pancake windings of low voltage side. In order to distribute the currents equally in each HTS tapes, the three times transposition was performed between the double pancake windings. The windings of prototype transformer were wound using copper tape with the same size as BSCCO-2223 HTS tape. The core of the transformer was designed and manufactured as a shell type core made of laminated silicon steel plate. The several characteristics tests for the prototype transformer were performed in liquid nitrogen and insulation tests were accomplished also.

  • When referring to weight, volume, and efficiency, a SuperConducting Synchronous Generator (SCSG) is definitely superior to conventional generators as a large-scale wind power generation system. The SCSG is connected to a full power converter that transmits the energy from the SCSG to the power grid. To reduce the current stress and system cost, the SCSG which has nine-phase armature windings with three converters is used. This paper deals with a comparative analysis of 10 MW superconducting wind power generators with three-phase and nine-phase armature windings. The stator windings of SCSGs are of various types. Using the finite element method, SCSGs are analyzed and compared in terms of the weight and volume of SCSGs, the total length of the superconducting wire, harmonics, torque performance, and efficiency. The analyzed results will be effectively utilized to design large-scale superconducting generators for wind power generation systems.
