A breakwater is a important structure for both calmness of harbor and protection of the port facilities from waves generated from typhoons or wind. This study adopted the rubble mound breakwater, which is one of the most popular type of breakwaters in Korea. Rubble mound breakwater had been designed by considering only static condition previously. Recently, a dynamic wave-load due to waves has been also considered in designing breakwater. In design, the wave-load is assumed as an uniform load which only acts in the front slope of the breakwater. However, the assumption is not applicable in reality. In this study, therefore, a real-time wave-load acting on the breakwater instead of the uniform load is considered, and it is assumed to be acting on the seabed too. Based on the numerical analysis, it is found that there is a significant difference in the maximum settlement compared with the result predicted by the existing design method.
A leisure ship has a stand-alone type power system, and a generator is in use on this condition. But the generator cannot be operated in condition of leisure activity, ocean measurement and etc, because of environment and noise. Recently, renewable energy system is connected with power system of the leisure-ship for saving energy. The renewable energy system can not supply the stable power to leisure-ship because power generation changes according to weather condition. And most of the leisure ship is operated without methodical power management system. This study's purpose is to develop SPMS(Smart Power Management System) algorithm using the renewable energy (photovoltaic, wind power and etc.). The proposed algorithm is able to supply stable the power according to operation mode. Furthermore, the SPMS manages electric load (sailing and communication equipment, TV, fan, etc.) and reduces operating times of the generator. In this paper, the proposed algorithm is realized and executed by using LabVIEW. As a result, the hour for operating the generator is minimized.
The installation of a topside structure can be categorized into the following stages: start, pre-lifting, lifting, lifted, rotating, positioning, lowering, mating, and end of installation. The transfer of the module onto the floating spar hull occurs in the last three stages, from lowering to the end. The coupled multi-body motions are calculated in both calm water and in irregular waves with a significant wave height (1.52m). The effects of the hydrodynamic interactions between the heavy lifting vessel and the spar hull during the lowering and mating stages are considered. The internal forces caused by the load transfer and ballasting are derived for the mating phases. The results of the internal forces for the calm water condition are compared with those in the irregular sea condition. Although the effect of the pitch motion on the relative vertical motion between the deck of the floating structure and the topside module is significant in the mating phases, the internal force induced pitch motion is too small to have this influence. However, the effect of the internal force on the wave-induced heave responses in the mating phases is noticeable in the irregular sea condition because transfer mass-induced draught changes for the floating structure are observed to have higher amplitudes than the external force induced responses. The impacts of the module on the spar hull in the mating phase are investigated.
The installation phase for a topside module suggested can be divided into 9 stages, which include start, pre-lifting, lifting, lifted, rotating, positioning, lowering, mating, and end of installation. The transfer of the topside module from a transport barge to a crane vessel takes place in the first three stages, from start to lifting, while the transfer of the module onto a floating spar hull occurs in the last three stages, from lowering to the end. The coupled multi-body motions are calculated in both calm water and in irregular waves with significant wave height (1.52m), with suggested force equilibrium diagrams. The effects of the hydrodynamic interactions between the crane vessel and barge during the lifting stage have been considered. The internal forces caused by the load transfer and ballasting are derived for the lifting phases. The results of these internal forces for the calm water condition are compared with those in the irregular sea condition. Although the effect of pitch motion on the relative vertical motion between the deck of the floating structure and the topside module is significant in the lifting phases, the internal force induced pitch motion is too small to show its influence. However, the effect of the internal force on the wave-induced heave responses in the lifting phases is noticeable in the irregular sea condition because the transfer mass-induced draught changes in the floating structure are observed to have higher amplitudes than the external force induced responses.
This paper describes development of real-time condition monitoring system to observe state of a container crane in a port. To analyze the state of a crane, the strength and the direction of wind are measured with sensors along with the load resulted a crane at the moment. The measured signals are processed by especially developed conditioning board and converted into digital data. Measured data are analyzed to define the state of the crane at an indicator. For transmission of these data to the indicator, we implemented wireless sensor network based on IEEE 802.15.4 MAC(Media Access Control) protocol and Bluetooth network protocol. To extend the networking distance between the indicator and sensor nodes, the shortest path routing algorithm was applied for WSN(Wireless Sensor Network) networks. The indicator sends the state information of the crane to monitoring server through IEEE 802.11 b wireless LAN(Local Area Network). Monitoring server decides whether alarm should be issued or not. The performance of developed WSN and Bluetooth network were evaluated and analyzed in terms of communication delay and throughput.

The developments of the hybrid energy are necessary since the future alternative energies that have no pollution and no limitation are restricted. Currently power generation system of MW scale has been developed. However, even photovoltaic system cannot always generate stable output with ever-changing weather condition. In this paper, sub power generator for hybrid system(photovoltaic 500[W], wind power generation 400[W]) was suggested. Sub power Generator that uses elastic energy of spiral spring to photovoltaic system was also added for the present system. In an experiment, when output of photovoltaic system gets lower than 24[V] (charging voltage), power was continuously supplied to load through the inverter by charging energy obtained from generating rotary energy of spiral spring operates In DC generator. Also, control algorithm of sub power generator is used genetic algorithm(GA).

In this study, hydrodynamic and mooring analysis for LNG FSRU moored by an internal turret with 9 mooring lines are numerically performed using commercial softwares, Hydrostar and Ariane. Met-ocean combinations for screening method are taken from wave governed condition(BV Rule Note NR 493) with relative heading between wave and wind between −45° and +45° and relative heading between wind and current between −30° and +30°. Extreme mooring analysis and sensitivity analysis are performed for intact and damaged (=one line missing) conditions and the parameters for sensitivity analysis are wave peak period, peak enhancement factor and line pretension. In the viewpoint of the design tension in mooring line, chain diameter is designed to satisfy safety factor for each conditions. As the chain diameter is increased from 152mm to 171mm, the designtension is reduced while the minimum breaking load is increased.
The structural strain plays a significant role in structural condition assessment of in-service bridges in terms of structural bearing capacity, structural reliability level and entire safety redundancy. Therefore, it has been one of the most important parameters concerned by researchers and engineers engaged in structural health monitoring (SHM) practices. In this paper, an SHM system instrumented on the Jiubao Bridge located in Hangzhou, China is firstly introduced. This system involves nine subsystems and has been continuously operated for five years since 2012. As part of the SHM system, a total of 166 fiber Bragg grating (FBG) strain sensors are installed on the bridge to measure the dynamic strain responses of key structural components. Based on the strain monitoring data acquired in recent two years, the strain-based structural condition assessment of the Jiubao Bridge is carried out. The wavelet multi-resolution algorithm is applied to separate the temperature effect from the raw strain data. The obtained strain data under the normal traffic and wind condition and under the typhoon condition are examined for structural safety evaluation. The structural condition rating of the bridge in accordance with the AASHTO specification for condition evaluation and load and resistance factor rating of highway bridges is performed by use of the processed strain data in combination with finite element analysis. The analysis framework presented in this study can be used as a reference for facilitating the assessment, inspection and maintenance activities of in-service bridges instrumented with long-term SHM system.

This study discusses data collection, calculation of wind and wave-induced resistance, and speed-power analysis of an 8,600 TEU container ship. Data acquisition system of the ship operator was improved to obtain the data necessary for the analysis, which was accomplished using SPA (Ship Performance Analysis, Park et al., 2019) in conformation with ISO15016:2015. From a previous operation profile of the container, the standard operating conditions of mean draft were 12.5 m and 13.6 m, which were defined with the mean stowage configuration of each condition. Model tests, including the load-variation test, were conducted to validate new ship performance and for the speed-power analysis. The major part of the added resistance of container ship is due to the wind. To check the reliability of wind-resistance calculation results, the resistance coefficients, added resistance, and speed-power analysis results using the Fujiwara regression formula (ISO15016:2015) and Computational fluid dynamics (Ryu et al., 2016; Jeon et al., 2017) analysis were compared. Wind speed and direction measured using an anemometer were used for wind-resistance calculation and the wave resistance was calculated using the wave-height and direction-data from weather information. Also, measured water temperature was used to calculate the increase in resistance owing to the deviation in water density. As a result, the SPA analysis using measured data and weather information was proved to be valid and able to identify the ship's resistance propulsion performance. Even with little difference in the air-resistance coefficient value, both methods provide sufficient accuracy for speed-power analysis. The differences were unnoticeable when the speed-power analysis results using each method were compared. Also, speed-power analysis results of the 8,600 TEU container ship in two draft conditions show acceptable trends when compared with the model test results and are also able to show power increase owing to hull fouling and aging. Thus, results of speed-power analysis of the existing 8,600 TEU container ship using the SPA program appropriately exhibit the characteristics of speed-power performance in deal conditions.

In this study, a CPT-based p-y analysis method was proposed for the displacement analysis of laterally loaded piles. Key consideration was the continuous soil profiling capability of CPT and cone resistance profiles that do not require artificial assumption or simplification for input parameter selection. The focus is on the application into offshore mono-piles embedded in clays. The correlations of p-y function components to the effective cone resistance were proposed, which can fully utilize CPT measurements. A case example was selected from the literature and used to validate the proposed method. Various parametric studies were performed to examine the effectiveness of the proposed method and investigate the effect of property profile and its depth resolution on the p-y analysis. It was found that the calculation could be largely misleading if wrongly interpreted sub-layer condition or inappropriate resolution of input soil profile was involved in the analyses. It was also found that there is a significant influence depth that dominates overall load response of pile. The soil profile and properties within this depth range affect most significantly calculated load responses, confirming that the soil profile within this depth range should be identified in more detail.
