Simple algebraic expressions are derived to approximate the optimal input RMS pulse width and the resulting output RMS pulse width in single-mode fibers. The results are compared with the previously published methods and with numerical results by the split-step Fourier method. In addition, for a transform-limited Gaussian input pulse, it is shown that there is no optimum input pulse width to minimize the output spectrum width. Finally, with fiber nonlinearity, it is shown mathematically that there is not an optimum input pulse width to minimize the product,${\sigma}_t{\sigma}_{\omega}$, which is inversely proportional to the transmission capacity of WDM systems.

A high precision hot strip width control method has been developed in this study by applying interstand looper tension measuring system at finishing mill stands. As with deviation of hot rolled steel strip is closely related to abnormal increase in the interstand strip tension, on-line measuring device of looped tension and data analyzing system was developed in this study. To determine dominant factors that will cause local width shortage, the logged data sets of bar width, bar thickness, looper tension, and strip thickness along the strip length were correlated with the data set of strip width change. With the result of the correlation analysis, existing sequence control logic and parameters for looper actuator were modified for strip width quality and the gains of the looper control were refined for the stable operation during the full passage of rolled strip. The on-line tension measurement and tension feedback control for looper system improved strip travelling stability and reduced strip width deviation in the srip top end region.

In this paper, we propose a CFWC (CCD and fuzzy PID based width control) scheme to obtain the desired delivery width margin of a vertical rolling mill in hot strip process. A WMS(width measurement system) is composed of two line scan cameras, an edge detection algorithm, a glitch filter, and so on. A dynamic model of the mill is derived from a gauge meter equation in order to design the fuzzy PID controller. The controller is a self-learning structure to select the PID gains from the error and error rate of the width margin. The effectiveness of the proposed CFWC is verified from simulation results under a width disturbance of the entry in the mill. Using a field test, we show that the performance of the width control is improved by the proposed control scheme.
The experiment was conducted to obtain basic information on breeding of flue-cured tobacco varieties. Nine cultivars and partial diallel set of 36 F1 hybrides were grown at Taegu Experiment Station, Korea Ginseng & Tobacco Research Institute in 1983. Estimated heritability in the narrow-sense ranged from 66.21% to 94.12% for yield, leaves per plant, days to flower, leaf weight, leaf width, leaf shape, nicotine content and reducing sugar content, while that for stalk height, leaf length, midrib weight and midrib width ranged from 28.12% to 56.25%. The genotypic correlations were positive among yield, leaf weight, leaf length, leaf width, midrib weight and midrib width in the middle leaves, days to flower, nicotine content and reducing correlated with leaf length than leaf width. At the path coefficient analysis of the effect of leaf and midrib characters upon yield according to stalk position, leaf weight, leaf width and midrib width in the middle leaves, and leaf weight, and leaf width in the top leaves showed high direct effects.
It is an experimental report about optimum window-width on radionuclides $^{99m}Tc$ and $^{131}I$ and obtained results as follows; 1. In case of $^{99m}Tc$, a) The difference of counting rate in each window-width is greater at the below 20% window than above 20% window-width. b) BKG counting is proportionated to the window-width. 2. In case of $^{131}I$, a) The counting rate increased according to the window-width but the increasing course is not equal in all window. The difference of counting rate is greater at the below of 20% window-width than above 20% window. b) BKG counting is proportionated to the window-width.

It is important to consider the life of battery and low power operation for various wireless communications. Thus, Analog current-mode signal processing with SI circuit has been taken notice of in designing the LSI for wireless communications. However, in current mode signal processsing, current memory circuit has a problem called clock-feedthrough. In this paper, we examine the connection of CMOS switch that is the common solution of clock-feedthrough and calculate the relation of width between CMOS switch for design methodology for improvement of current memory. As a result of simulation, when the width of memory MOS is 20um, ratio of input current and bias current is 0.3, the width relation in CMOS switch is obtained with $W_{Mp}=5.62W_{Mn}+1.6$, for the nMOS width of 2~6um in CMOS switch. And from the same simulation condition, it is obtained with $W_{Mp}=2.05W_{Mn}+23$ for the nMOS width of 6~10um in CMOS switch. Then the defined width relation of MOS transistor will be useful guidance in design for improvement of current memory.

PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the crack propagation depth through a slab and crack width movement in continuously reinforced concrete slab systems (CRCSs). METHODS : The crack width movements in continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) and continuously reinforced concrete railway track (CRCT) were measured in the field for different crack spacings. In addition, the crack width movements in both CRCP and CRCT were simulated using finite element models of CRCP and CRCT. The crack width movements, depending on the unit temperature change, were obtained from both the field tests and numerical analysis models. RESULTS : The experimental analysis results show that the magnitudes of the crack width movements in CRCSs were related to not only the crack spacing, but also the crack propagation depth. In CRCP, the magnitudes of the crack width movements were more closely related to the crack propagation depths. In CRCT, the crack width movements were similar for different cracks since most were through cracks. If the numerical analysis was performed to predict the crack width movements by assuming that the crack propagates completely through the slab depth, the predicted crack width movements were similar to the actual ones in CRCT, but those may be overestimated in CRCP. CONCLUSIONS : The magnitudes of the crack width movements in CRCSs were mainly affected by the crack propagation depths through the slabs.
The primary objective of this study is to make the prediction percentile tabulation of the sun of mesiodistal width of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the sum of mesiodistal width of the erupted permanent mandibular incisors in Korean population. The subjects were 316 individuals with normal occlusion aged 11 to 23 years. The sum of mesiodistal width of mandibular incisors, and the sum of mesiodistal width of maxillary canine, first and second premolars, and the sum of mandibular canine, first and second premolars were measured from the dental cast models using the sliding caliper (Mitutoyo Co.). From the study, the results are as follows: 1. The sum of M-D width of mandibular incisors and the sum of M-D width of maxillary canines, first and second premolars, and the sum of M-D width of mandibular canine, first and second premolars were smaller than those of American Caucasians and Negros. 2. The correlation coefficient between the sum of M-D width of mandibular incisors and that of maxillary or mandibular canines, first and second premolars was found to be 0.598 and 0.586, respectively. 3. The regression constants were determined to evaluate the sum of M-D width of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the sum of M-D width of the erupted permanent incisors. 4. The prediction percentile tabulation were made in an attempt to predict the total M-D width of the unerupted permanent canines and premolars derived from the total M-D width of the erupted permanent mandibular incisors.

The purpose of this study is to identify the effect of clothing cues(sleeve and skirt width, length) on female impressions. The experimental materials developed for this study are a set of stimuli and response scales. The stimuli are 16 pictures manipulated with sleeve and skirt width · length variations by computer drawing. The experimental design consists of 3 factorial design: (1) sleeve shapes(plain, upper expanded, below expanded, all expanded) (2) skirt width (wide, narrow) (3) skirt length(long, short) The 7-point semantic differential response scale designed for visual evaluation of female' s impression formation on sleeve shape and skirt width · length is 27 bipolar adjectives. The results of this study are as follows: 1. When we analize the impressions of female figure by sleeve shape and width · length of skirt, it becomes clear that maturity, modernity, attention, elegance and tenderness are proved to be important. Among these five factors, maturity, modernity and attention are identified as more important ones. 2. Sleeve shape have an effect on all factors except maturity and the effects of sleeve on the four factors are not striking. ' Width of skirt are most influential to the maturity and attention, but it does not have any effect on modernity. However two factor, that is width of skirt and sleeve have an effects on modernity, attention and tenderness. ' The length of skirt has an effects on the tenderness, elegance and modernity, but it dose not have any effect on attention. But width and length of skirt have an effects on attention, tenderness and modernity The length of skirt and sleeve have an effect on tenderness.
