An UWB(Ultra Wide Band) antenna with band rejection characteristics is designed and implemented. A planar radiation patch with slot, parasitic elements on both sides of strip and ground plane on back side consist the proposed antenna. The slot in the radiation patch and parasitic elements contribute corresponding bands rejection characteristics. The slot contributes for WiMAX(World interoperability for Microwave Access, 3.30~3.70 GHz) band rejection and parasitic elements contribute for X-Band(7.25~8.395 GHz) rejection. Ansoft's HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator) was used to design the proposed antenna and performance simulations. Simulation result showed VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) less than 2.0 for UWB band except for dual rejection bands of 3.30~3.86 GHz and 7.21~8.39 GHz. And VSWR measurement result for the implemented antenna shows less than 2.0 for 3.10~10.60 GHz band except dual rejection bands of 3.25~3.71 GHz and 7.25~8.46 GHz.

In this paper, we investigate the effect of pulse repetition frequency (PRF) and slot interval on the throughput performance of the ultra wide band (UWB) wireless communication system in multi-path channels, and based on these observations, a data throughput control using PRF and slot interval is proposed for maximizing the effective throughput. Recently, due to many desirable features of the UWB system, it has drawn much attention especially for short-range high-speed data transmission. The UWB system has two parameters to determine its data throughput; pulse repetition frequency and slot interval. In the multi-path channel with additive white Gaussian noise, the UWB system suffers from the inter-pulse interference (IPI) and noise, which result in degradation of system performance. The UWB system can vary the two parameters to maintain and/or improve the system performance. In this paper, we demonstrate the effects of the two parameters on the data throughput of the UWB system in various multi-path indoor channels through computer simulation, and show that the variable data rate approach designed based on the observations is superior to the fixed data rate one in terms of effective throughput performance.

This paper proposes a design technique of wide-band antenna for handy phone with 700 MHz LTE(Long Term Evolution) low frequency bandwidth. The proposed antenna based on the PIFA(Planar Inverted-F type Antenna) structure was designed and considered. In order to realize the wide bandwidth, a round structure which is able to control the electric path length of current and a branch line element which can be obtain the dual resonance characteristics were introduced in this design. As a result, It was realized about 95 MHz bandwidth in spite of very small space of $30{\times}34mm$ used for FR-4 substrate with relative permitivity of 4.4 at 700 MHz band. Measurement results of return loss, bandwidth and gain radiation pattern were agreed well with their calculation results.

RPWM(Random Pulse Width Modulation) is a switching technique to spread the voltage and current harmonics on wide frequency area. Using randomly changed switching frequency of the inverter, the power spectrum of the electromagnetic acoustic noise can be spread into the wide-band area. And the wide-band noise is much more comfortable and less annoying than the narrow-band one. So RPWM have been attracting an interest as an excellent reduction method of acoustic noise on the inverter drive system. In this paper a new RPPWM(Random Position PWM) is proposed and implemented. Each of three pulses is located randomly in each switching intervals. Along with the randomization of PWM pulses, the space vector modulation is processed on the C167 microcontroller also. The experimental results show that the voltage and current harmonics were spread into wide band area and that the audible switching noise was reduced by proposed RPPWM method.

In this paper, Ulta-WideBand (UWB) channel measurement and modeling based on compressive sampling (CS) are proposed. The sparsity of the channel impulse response (CIR) of the UWB signal in frequency domain enables the proposed channel measurement to have a low-complexity and to provide a comparable performance compared with the existing approaches especially used for the indoor geo-localization purpose. Furthermore, to improve the performance under noisy situation, the soft thresholding method is also investigated in solving the optimization problem for signal recovery of CS. Via numerical results, the proposed channel measurement and modeling are evaluated with the real measured data in terms of location estimation error, bandwidth, and compression ratio for indoor geo-localization using UWB system.

This paper proposes a wide-band dual-polarization stacked patch array antenna for satellite SAR system applications. The array antenna was designed for loss minimization and wide-band characteristics to enhance the performance of the SAR system and optimize it for active return loss in applications to active phased arrays. The fabricated array antenna showed a performance of 19.26%/19.79% fractional bandwidth within the -10 dB reference level of the active return loss and showed loss characteristics of 0.797 dB/0.799 dB averaged within the operational frequency for both H/V-polarization cases. The pattern performance was verified by comparing the measured patterns with the calculated patterns obtained by the array factor.

Several analytical procedures available in literature, for the evaluation of wind induced fatigue damage of structures, either assume the wide band random stress variations as narrow band random process or use correction factors along with narrow band assumption. This paper compares the correction factors obtained using the Rainflow Cycle (RFC) counting of the measured stress time histories on a lamp mast and a lattice tower, with those evaluated using different frequency domain methods available in literature. A Bi-modal spectral method has been formulated by idealising the single spectral moment method into two modes of background and resonant components, as considered in the gust response factor, for the evaluation of fatigue of slender structures subjected to "along-wind vibrations". A closed form approximation for the effective frequency of the background component has been developed. The simplicity and the accuracy of the new method have been illustrated through a case study by simulating stress time histories at the base of an urban light pole for different mean wind speeds. The correction factors obtained by the Bi-modal spectral method have been compared with those obtained from the simulated stress time histories using RFC counting method. The developed Bi-modal method is observed to be a simple and easy to use alternative to detailed time and frequency domain fatigue analyses without considerable computational and experimental efforts.

In this work, in order to realize a band pass filter with wide-band characteristics for mobile communications, 2 GHz band pass filter was designed using ring resonator with stub. The three stage wide-band BPF was designed and fabricated. For broadband design, the ring circumference was divided by 4 sections with 1/8 wavelength and 2 sections with 1/4 wavelength which have different line impedances. The characteristics of the proposed BPF were highly improved by using three stage ring resonator. The characteristic impedance values of each sections were obtained by Powell's least square algorithm where differentiations are not needed. The measured results showed a good agreement with the theoretical results as well as ADS simulation.

A tile type active T/R(Transmit/Receive) module for X-band active array radar is demonstrated in this paper. Proposed tile type structure based on fuzz button solderless vertical interconnection shows wide band characteristic of about 30 % bandwidth in X-band with insertion loss of below 0.6 dB and input and output VSWR of less than 1.7. Moreover, the mismatching generally appeared in the vertical interconnection which shown wide band characteristic can also be minimized and, therefore, good gain flatness can be achieved.

In this paper, we measured and analyzed propagation characteristics in a subway tunnel that is recently increasingly becoming one of the radio communication environments. The measurements are carried out in a subway tunnel with frequency bands of 2.45㎓ and 5.8㎓. The length of tunnel we used for this study is 175m of LOS (Line-of-sight) and 270m of NLOS (Non Line-of-Sight). The subway tunnel is curved and its cross section is horseshoe type. The measurement systems we employ in this study are a narrow-band system and a wide-band system. The narrow-band system is used to get path loss measurement and the wide-band system is used to figure out delay profile measurement. In particular, the wide-band system consists of 1023 length PN sequence generator using a chip rate of 80MHz based on a sliding correlation technique. The omni-directional antennas and directional antennas are used to analyze propagation characteristics for beam type of antenna. The path loss displays only pure path loss of a tunnel environment. The delay profile indicates the mean excess delay and RMS (root mean square) delay spread.
