The Anti-Rolling Tank(ART) has an advantage over the other roll stabilizing devices, when ship is staying and working at one site of sea. An important design point of ART is the tank tuning, that is, matching the tank natural period to the ship's roll natural period. Since the load condition and consequently the roll natural period of ship is to be changed widely, the natural period of ART also has to be changed widely. In case of the existing U-tube type ART with a single layer duct, the tank natural period can be changed in a relatively narrow range. This paper suggests a new U-tube type ART system using a double layer duct to enable wide change of ART natural period. Through the roll experiments performed in regular beam waves for a box-type model ship, it is shown that the double layer duct ART has about two times wider period range and a better reducing effect of roll magnitude than the single layer duct ART.
Transmission tower-line system is one of most critical lifeline systems to cities. However, it is found that the transmission tower-line system is prone to be damaged by earthquakes in past decades. To mitigate seismic demands, this study introduces a tuned-mass damper (TMD) using superelastic shape memory alloy (SMA) spring for the system. In addition, considering the dynamic characteristics of both tower-line system and SMA are affected by temperature change. Particular attention is paid on the effect of temperature variation on seismic behavior. In doing so, the SMA-TMD is installed into the system, and its properties are optimized through parametric analyses. The considered temperature range is from -40 to $40^{\circ}C$. The seismic control effect of using SMA-TMD is investigated under the considered temperatures. Interested seismic performance indices include peak displacement and peak acceleration at the tower top and the height-wise deformation. Parametric analyses on seismic intensity and frequency ratio were carried out as well. This study indicates that the nonlinear behavior of SMA-TMD is critical to the control effect, and proper tuning before application is advisable. Seismic demand mitigation is always achieved in this wide temperature range, and the control effect is increased at high temperatures.

Optical resonances of metallic or dielectric nanoantennas enable to effectively convert free-propagating electromagnetic waves to localized electromagnetic fields and vice versa. Plasmonic resonances of metal nanoantennas extremely modify the local density of optical states beyond the optical diffraction limit and thus facilitate highly-efficient light-emitting, nonlinear signal conversion, photovoltaics, and optical trapping. The leaky-mode resonances, or termed Mie resonances, allow dielectric nanoantennas to have a compact size even less than the wavelength scale. The dielectric nanoantennas exhibiting low optical losses and supporting both electric and magnetic resonances provide an alternative to their metallic counterparts. To extend the utility of metal and dielectric nanoantennas in further applications, e.g. metasurfaces and metamaterials, it is required to understand and engineer their scattering characteristics. At first, we characterize resonant plasmonic antenna radiations of a single-crystalline Ag nanowire over a wide spectral range from visible to near infrared regions. Dark-field optical microscope and direct far-field scanning measurements successfully identify the FP resonances and mode matching conditions of the antenna radiation, and reveal the mutual relation between the SPP dispersion and the far-field antenna radiation. Secondly, we perform a systematical study on resonant scattering properties of high-refractive-index dielectric nanoantennas. In this research, we examined Si nanoblock and electron-beam induced deposition (EBID) carbonaceous nanorod structures. Scattering spectra of the transverse-electric (TE) and transverse-magnetic (TM) leaky-mode resonances are measured by dark-field microscope spectroscopy. The leaky-mode resonances result a large scattering cross section approaching the theoretical single-channel scattering limit, and their wide tuning ranges enable vivid structural color generation over the full visible spectrum range from blue to green, yellow, and red. In particular, the lowest-order TM01 mode overcomes the diffraction limit. The finite-difference time-domain method and modal dispersion model successfully reproduce the experimental results.
We investigate the effect of the data skew of join attributes on the performance of a pipelined multi-way hash join method, and propose two new harsh join methods in the shared-nothing multiprocessor environment. The first proposed method allocates buckets statically by round-robin fashion, and the second one allocates buckets dynamically via a frequency distribution. Using harsh-based joins, multiple joins can be pipelined to that the early results from a join, before the whole join is completed, are sent to the next join processing without staying in disks. Shared nothing multiprocessor architecture is known to be more scalable to support very large databases. However, this hardware structure is very sensitive to the data skew. Unless the pipelining execution of multiple hash joins includes some dynamic load balancing mechanism, the skew effect can severely deteriorate the system performance. In this parer, we derive an execution model of the pipeline segment and a cost model, and develop a simulator for the study. As shown by our simulation with a wide range of parameters, join selectivities and sizes of relations deteriorate the system performance as the degree of data skew is larger. But the proposed method using a large number of buckets and a tuning technique can offer substantial robustness against a wide range of skew conditions.

In this paper, a 3.2Gb/s clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit for a high-speed serial data communication without the reference clock is described This CDR circuit consists of 5 parts as Phase and frequency detector(PD and FD), multi-phase Voltage Controlled-Oscillator(VCO), Charge-pumps (CP) and external Loop-Filter(KF). It is adapted the PD and FD, which incorporates a half-rate bang-bang type oversampling PD and a half-rate FD that can improve pull-in range. The VCO consists of four fully differential delay cells with rail-to-rail current bias scheme that can increase the tuning range and tuning linearity. Each delay cell has output buffers as a full-swing generator and a duty-cycle mismatch compensation. This materialized CDR can achieve wide pull-in range without an extra reference clock and it can be also reduced chip area and power consumption effectively because there is no additional Phase Locked- Loop(PLL) for generating reference clock. The CDR circuit was designed for fabrication using 0.18um 1P6M CMOS process and total chip area excepted LF is $1{\times}1mm^2$. The pk-pk jitter of recovered clock is 26ps at 3.2Gb/s input data rate and total power consumes 63mW from 1.8V supply voltage according to simulation results. According to test result, the pk-pk jitter of recovered clock is 55ps at the same input data-rate and the reliable range of input data-rate is about from 2.4Gb/s to 3.4Gb/s.

The induction motor drive applied to field oriented control is widely used in industry applications. However, it is deceased performance and authenticity by saturation, temperature changing, disturbance and parameters changing because modeling of induction motor is nonlinear and complex. In order to control variable speed operation, conventional PI-like controllers are commonly used. These controllers provide limited good performance over a wide range of operation, even under ideal field oriented conditions. This paper proposes self tuning PI controller based on fuzzy-neural network(FNN)-PI controller that is implemented using fuzzy control, neural network, and adaptive fuzzy controller(AFC). Also, this paper proposes estimation of speed using ANN. The proposed control algorithm is applied to induction motor drive system using FNN-PI, AFC and ANN controller. Also, this paper proposes the anlysis results to verify the effectiveness of controller.

In this paper, RF varactor diode are applied to the design of miniaturized and tunable bandstop filter. The proposed bandstop filter is based on a Defected Ground Structure(DGS) section topology. The designed tunable bandstop filter can achieve a significant size reduction by with loading capacitance component of varactor diode. It is observed from the measured results that the proposed tunable bandstop filter shows a wide tuning range of 42.9 % from 1.01 GHz to 1.99 GHz. The rejection level in the stopband is higher as the number of DGS section increases. In case of the proposed tunable bandstop filter with two DGS sections, the rejection level of the filter is better than 20 dB in the stopband during the tuning. In this case, the maximum insertion loss in the lower passband is 0.5 dB.

Nonlinear acoustic damping of a half-wave acoustic resonator in a rocket combustor is investigated numerically adopting a nonlinear acoustic analysis. First, in a baseline chamber without any resonators, acoustic behavior is investigated over the wide range of acoustic amplitude from 80 dB to 150 dB. Damping factor increases nonlinearly with acoustic amplitude and nonlinearity becomes appreciable at acoustic amplitude above 125 dB. Next, damping effect of a half-wave resonator is investigated. It is found that nonlinear acoustic excitation does not affect optimum tuning condition of the resonator, which is derived from linear acoustics. A half-wave resonator is effective even for acoustic damping of high-amplitude pressure oscillation, but its function of acoustic damper is relatively weakened compared with the case of linear acoustic excitation.
In this paper, a low-cost hybrid-integrated tunable laser is realized using a polymer-ring resonator-based add/drop filter reflector and a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier. The add/drop filter reflector, composed of a double-ring resonator with different radii, can have characteristics of selective wavelength reflection and wide wavelength tuning with an aid of vernier effect derived from the radii difference. By hybrid-integrating the reflective semiconductor optical amplifier with the add/drop filter reflector, a tunable laser can be realized through an active alignment method. The hybrid laser exhibited a single mode lasing with side mode suppression ratio of 26 dB and full width half maximum of 0.03 nm. In addition, applying a low current as small as 25 mA onto electrodes over add/drop filter reflector, a wavelength tuning range of 17 nm could be obtained.
A time-domain modeling approach is used to study characteristics of a widely tunable coupled-ring reflector (CRR) laser diode(LD). The CRR consists of a bus waveguide and two coupled ring resonators coupled to the bus without resorting to distributed Bragg grating structure. The tuning range can be a few tens of nanometers with a side mode suppression ratio exceeding 35dB through the adjustment of currents into the phase control sections in the rings. The CRR laser diode has long effective cavity length compared to conventional laser diodes. Accordingly, a broad additional resonance peak in the amplitude modulation characteristics is observed between 20 to 30 GHz, implying the extension of amplitude modulation bandwidth.
