  • Ultra precision grinding technology has been developed from the refinement of the abrasive, the development of high stiffness equipment and grinding skill. The conventional wafering process which consists of lapping, etching, 1 st, 2nd and 3rd polishing has been changed to the new process which consists of precision surface grinding, final polishing and post cleaning. Especially, the ultra precision grinding of wafer improves the flatness of wafer and the efficiency of production. Furthermore, it has been not only used in bare wafer grinding, but also applied to wafer back grinding and SOI wafer grinding. This paper focuses on the flatness of the ground wafer. Generally, the ground wafer has concave pronto because of the difference of wheel path density, grinding temperature and elastic deformation of the equipment. Wafer tilting is applied to avoid non-uniform material removal. Through the geometric analysis of wafer grinding process, the profile of the ground wafer is predicted by the development of profile simulator.

  • Creep force is one of the only appeared at conventional train which used to be driven by metallic wheel and rail contact. Due to the elastic deformation of wheel/rail contact patch by the weights of wheel and all the components related to it, creep force generates and becomes to the decision factor of critical speed of bogie(or railway vehicle) which is the criteria of avoiding vehicle to be unstable. There are many kind of factors which affect generation of creep force at a wheel/rail contact surface such as viscosity of contact patch, velocity, wheel and rail geometric profile, mechanical properties of wheel and rail. This paper concentrates on a wheelset simple 2 DOF Equation of Motion being exerted. From the simple numerical analysis using linear solution about getting creep force some factors could find roughly. Among the factors geometric parameter could be the one of most important for this study. In the future we'll prolong the range of study to find out method of measuring creep force easily.

  • Corrugation of railway track can be caused by the various dynamic behavior of travelling wheels and track. In this paper, the coupled vibrations of travelling wheel and railway track are analyzed as the cause of corrugations. To analyze the coupled vibrations, the track supported by the sleepers and the traveling wheel are identified to the elastically supported infinite beam and the spring-mass system which runs at constant speed. The Hertzian contact spring is considered betwen the infinite beam and spring-mass system. The dynamic responses of elastically supported infinite beam and spring-mass system are calculated. The cause and development of rail corrugation are discussed in the view point of contact force fluctuation affected by the elastic supports and the corrugated surface profile of the track. By the obtained results, the possibilities of resonance are checked between the excitation by the corrugated surface profile and the natural frequency of contact spring-moving mass system. It may be thought to a development of railway corrugation.

  • In this paper, the results of an analysis of the dynamic behavior of the eddy current brake(ECB) system are presented. The measured irregularity of the track in Korean high speed line and the track irregularity given by ERRI(high level) were used for simulation. The wheel-rail profile combination were analyzed with different rail gauges. A model of the bogie with an substitute body fur the carbody was implemented in the Multi-Body-Simulation Program Simpack. • The more sophisticated patterns of propagation model is presented in this paper, which includes three different source characteristics. The spherical, cosine and dipole radiation characteristics compared and sound event level and the maximum sound level are calculated by experiment and calculation. It is shown that patterns of propagation has dipole characteristics for low speed range(below about 150km/h) at electric multiple system. We know that push-pull high speed system(maximum speed: 300km/h) has cosine characteristics of noise propagation. For this purpose, We conduct the experiment of noise and know the empirical formula of noise level and radiation coefficient K. This model of simulation is conducted through point source array model at wheel/rail contact point by using program and experimental formula. We can guess prediction of profile, flat and wear of wheel by above modeling in near field.

  • Lateral force of wheel is important parameter when we evaluate the safety of a railway vehicle on curved track. The lateral force of wheel is influenced by the steering performance of wheelsets. Generally, in passive type vehicles, the steering performance of wheelsets is influenced by the parameters like primary spring stiffness, wheel base, conicity of the wheel profile, etc. But, the steering performance of passive type vehicle has its limit. To overcome the limit of the steering performance of passive type vehicle, active steering technology is being developed. In this paper, we analyze the lateral force of wheel and the safety of the railway vehicle on curved track by adopting the active steering technology. As results of dynamic analysis for vehicle model equipped with active steering system, the lateral force of wheel is reduced and the safety is improved remarkably.

  • STSAT RWA (Reaction Wheel Assembly) micro-vibration is measured using KISTLER dynamic plate that can provide the time signals of three orthogonal forces and torques simultaneously up to 400Hz. In the post-processing, measured data are evaluated with respect to the wheel spin rate in both time and frequency domains, and the static/dynamic unbalances are evaluated from the extracted first harmonic component. Also the friction torque profile at each wheel speed is estimated from the measured data. Several higher order harmonic components are observed, that comes from its rotor shape as well as the wheel bearing characteristics. One of the most peculiar characteristics of this wheel is that the dynamic properties of two radial unbalance components are much different from each other as the RWA mounting configuration on a spacecraft is different from conventional RWA mounting configuration. Rocking mode is not appeared below 400Hz for all operating speed because the wheel size is very small. The post-processed results will be used for jitter analysis of STSAT due to RWA micro-vibration.

  • An analytical model of the interference phenomena in the centerless grinding process is developed to investigate their effects on the roundness profile of a centerless ground workpiece. In this work, the regulating wheel and work-rest blade interferences are modeled as a single point contact. The grinding wheel interference is modeled as multiple points contact because material removal is determined by the duration of contact. The computer simulation results show good agreement with the experimental data. From this work, the existence and effects of the interference phenomena in the centerless grinding process are found.

  • Automobiles and systems requiring high gear ratios and high power densities generally use worm gears. In particular, as worm gears have a small volume and self-locking function, home appliances such as refrigerators and washers consist of worm gears. We can classify worm gears into cylindrical worms and rectangular worms. According to the AGMA standard, there are four types of cylindrical worms, ZA, ZN, ZK and ZI, depending on the machining of the worm shaft. It is preferable to use a ZI-type worm shaft, which is a combination of a worm wheel having an involute helical tooth surface and a conjugate tooth surface. However, in many cases, industries mostly use ZK, ZN, and ZA worm shafts because of the ease of processing. This paper presents numerical approaches to produce ZI and ZA worm surfaces and worm wheel. For the analysis of the transmission error of a worm gear system, this study (1) generates surface profile functions of ZI profile worm gear and worm shaft based on the common rack theory, (2) adopts the Newton-Raphson method for the analysis of the gear surface contact condition, and (3) presents and compares the corresponding transmission errors of ZI and ZA worm gears.
