  • NVH issue at idle condition is one of the major concerns of Passenger and Commercial Vehicle including Sports Utility Vehicle Especially steering wheel vibration at idle condition is a very complex problem and affected by firing frequency of the engine, stiffness of a steering wheel system and the body to which the steering wheel system is attached. To avoid vibration mode coupling between each system of a vehicle, experimental and analytical method has been used at the pre-prototype stage. The resonance frequency of the body and the frame has been decoupled by CAE and the resonance frequency of steering wheel system has been set in between the 1st bending frequency of body and frame. These Results has been used as design guidelines tot the prototype drawing stage. The experimental verification of tile modified pre-prototype vehicle shows good results of the vibration mode decouple. Modal test of prototype vehicle also confirms the vibration mode decouple between each system.

  • The running safety of the rolling stock depends on the design characteristics and the contact condition between wheel and railway. In this study, the effect of the conicity of wheel tread on the running safety is analyzed. The modal analysis results in $0.5\~0.6Hz$ natural frequency with lateral modes. However, the frequency analysis for the running simulation shows the frequency components near 1Hz. The running simulation shows that the KTX with GV40 wheel has less lateral vibration than that of XP55 as the KTX goes higher speed.

  • The investigation of running stability of the train for curved track is necessary in view of preventing the train from derailment caused by unbalanced forces transferred from the wheel and guaranteeing moderate level of running safety in curve sections. This paper carried out an analysis of running stability of tilting trains in conventional line which the test operation of tilting trains under development are scheduled. For this purpose, the wheel load and lateral pressure to the rail are evaluated. The criteria for the calculated wheel load and derailment coefficient are compared to the design criteria for running stability. It is founded that the running stability of tilting trains for curved track is guaranteed to have sufficient safety and the train speed in curve is governed by the geometric layout of track rather than the criteria for running stability.

  • Asphalt concrete pavements are often destroyed within the intended design life due to the increasement in traffic volume. The most common types of asphalt concrete pavement damages are permanent deformation and fatigue cracking, and so on. In this research, characteristics of traffic loadings and lateral wheel path distributions are analyzed using the field survey on traffic flow. The obtained traffic characteristics can be used to the decision making for the maintenance policy of roads. According to the traffic lane analysis for the 2nd and 3rd lanes, inner lane vehicles tended to pass to the right side to avoid the opposite side vehicles. In addition, the outside lane vehicles were deviated to the left side to avoid passengers. It is also noted that the lateral wheel path distributions was close to the normal distribution.

  • In the spray drying with rotating wheel atomizer of cheese powder, the relationships among variables were analyzed with Response Surface Methodology in which several independent variables such as total solid content, wheel rotation speed, and outlet temperature influenced dependent variables such as particle diameter, moisture content, bulk density, and viscosity of suspended liquid. Significance and correlation were tested according to central composite design. As a results of analyzing the correlations between independent and dependent variables, particle diameter and moisture content of cheese powder were decreased with increasing wheel rotation speed, and bulk density was decreased with increasing outlet temperature. Viscosity of suspended liquid were increased with increasing wheel rotation speed and total moisture content. In correlation among dependent variables, moisture content was proportional to bulk density, and particle diameter was inversly proportional to moisture content and bulk density.

  • The paper presents the optimal design of a oil-free two-stage compressor, which is driven by 75 kW motor at an operating speed of 39,000 rpm, and the pressure ratio of which is up to 4. First, an attempt is made to obtain the optimal design of a bump bearing which supports a compressor rotor. Second, bump bearings and shaft are considered simultaneously, and the weighted sum of rotor weight and frictional torque is minimized. Finally, the optimal geometry of compressor wheel is considered. The mean efficiency and the - minimum efficiency are maximized respectively. The results presented in this paper provide important design information necessary to reduce the energy loss.

  • This study is an investigation for the ADS optimum design by using FEA. We write out program which express ADS perfectly and reduce the required time for correcting of model to the minimum in solution and manufacture result. We complete algorithm which can plan optimum forming of model by feedback error information in CAE. Then we correct model by feedback date obtaining in solution process, repeat course following stress solution again and do modeling rachet wheel for optimum forming. That is our aim. In rachet wheel, greatest equivalence stress originates in key groove corner and KS standard is proved the design for security.

  • This paper describes the development of a hybrid-powered wheelchair (HPW) for the elderly. The proposed HPW has novel mechanical and control features compared with conventional powered wheelchairs. An ergonomic back-braking mechanism was designed in order to stop the wheels easily. In terms of control features, the HPW remarkably reduces the muscle power required by combining various assistive functions, such as wheel torque assistance, friction/inertia compensation, gravity compensation, and the one-hand driving algorithm. For wheel torque assistance, strain gauges were attached to the hand-rim in order to measure the wheel torque applied by a human. Gyroscopes and an accelerometer were attached to the wheel and chair respectively for friction and inertia compensation. An inclinometer was attached for gravity compensation and the one-hand driving algorithm was included for patients who can only use one hand. The one-hand driving algorithm controls the angular velocity of the uncontrolled wheel by using a gyroscope and pressure sensors attached to the bottom of the seat. Finally, the performance of the proposed motion assisted algorithm was verified through various experiments.

  • Among various manual materials handling tasks, pushing/pulling was known to be one of the risk factors for the low back and shoulder musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). This study was conducted to find out an optimal solution set of the handle height and distance for 4-wheel cart with two vertical handles. Ten male college students participated in the pushing force measurement experiment. The face-centered cube design, one of the central composite designs, was applied for the experiment, and the isometric voluntary pushing force was measured in 9 treatment conditions. The second order response surface model was predicted by using the pushing strength as a response variable, and the handle height and distance as independent factors. According to the 2nd order response model, the handle height and distance showed nonlinear relationship with the isometric pushing strength. To maximize the 2nd order response model (pushing force), the handle height and distance were optimized. The optimal handle height was 'xyphoid process height - stature', and the optimal handle distance was '$1.25{\times}shoulder$ width'. When calculated using the anthropometric data of the subjects of this study, the optimal handle height was $115.4{\pm}3.4$ cm, slightly higher than the elbow height, and the handle distance was $52.9{\pm}2.3$ cm.

  • A differential case equipped with LSD(limited slip differential) has several advantages over a normal type for rear wheel drive vehicles. Specially, the torque distribution can be done between left and right drive wheel in the state of limited slip differential. Also although LSD types are very various according to operating type, medium and torque distribution, a multi-clutch type is generally applied to rear wheel drive vehicles. So, this study presents the analysis of design parameters for development of a friction plate for multi-clutch type LSD using vehicle road test, the simulation of analytical model and the development of vehicle dynamics model by a benchmark product. According to this investigation, the design parameters which are pre-load of coil spring, friction plate and contact area quantity, friction coefficient and TBR(torque bias ratio) for a friction plate are derived from experiment and simulation and consequently, vehicle dynamics model has been constructed for the development of friction plate for multi-clutch type LSD.
