EFFECT OF IN-SITU VIBRATION ON THE PROPERTIES OF A-GRADE STEEL SMA WELDMENT

  • Effect of in-situ vibration on the properties of A-grade steel SMA weldment has been investigated. Welding was performed on the steel fixed at the experimental jig under the mechanical vibration of a given frequency. The applied frequency varied from 39 to 43.5 Hz (harmonic frequency). For weldments formed under the vibration with a sub-harmonic frequency, both the columnar width of the weld metal and the prior austenite grain size of the HAZ near the fusion line clearly decreased. This indicates that the vibration increase the cooling rate after welding. Vibration effect was also found at the weld metal formed at the center region of the weldment. The weld metal showed liner microstructure both in columnar zone and in equiaxed zone with thinner grain boundary ferrite. However mechanical properties of the weld metal did not exactly follow the microstructural changes developed under the vibration. The weld metal formed under the vibration revealed higher yield and tensile strength but lower ductility and impact toughness, compared with the conventional weld metal.

  • Thermal fatigue life of the automobile exhaust manifold is directly affected by the restraint force according to the structure of exhaust system and bead shape of the welded joints. In the present study, the microstructural changes and precipitation behavior during thermal fatigue cycle of the 18wt% Cr ferritic stainless steel weld heat affected zone (HAZ) considering restraint stress were investigated. The simulation of weld HAZ and thermal fatigue test were carried out using a metal thermal cycle simulator under complete constraint force in the static jig. The change of the restraint stress on the weld HAZ was simulated by changing the shape of notch in the specimen considering the stress concentration factor. Thermal fatigue properties of the weld HAZ were deteriorated during cyclic heating and cooling in the temperature range of $200^{\circ}C$ to $900^{\circ}C$ due to the decrease of Nb content in solid solution and coarsening of MX type precipitates, laves phase, $M_6C$ with coarsening of grain and softening of the matrix. As the restraint stress on the specimen increased, the thermal fatigue life was decreased by dynamic precipitation and rapid coarsening of the precipitates.

용접 작업장 통신네트워크 구축을 위한 블록매체통신시스템 (Block Media Communication System for Implementation of a Communication Network in Welding Workplaces)

  • 본 논문에서는 선박 용접공정에 사용되는 장비에 전력선통신 기술을 접목하고 금속블록을 통신매체로 사용하는 블록매체통신시스템을 제시한다. 여기서는 디지털 피더와 금속블록을 지지하는 핀지그에 유도성 커플러를 설치하고, 피더에 연결된 용접건에서 발생되는 전류에 정보신호를 더하여 금속블록에 인가함으로써 작업이 시작되면 현장에서 발생되는 정보를 상황실 서버에 실시간 전송한다. 현장시험 결과, 제시된 블록매체통신시스템의 송신부에서 전송된 데이터는 상황실 서버컴퓨터에 정확하게 수신되는 것을 확인하였다. 따라서 제시된 시스템은 기존 용접공정에 대한 변경 없이 구축이 가능하므로 향후 조선소 스마트 팩토리화를 통한 조선산업의 경쟁력 강화에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 또한 전자파 차폐 환경이나 밀폐된 공간에서 작업자에게 발생할 수 있는 응급상황에 신속한 대처가 가능하므로 산업재해 예방효과도 클 것으로 사료된다.

선체 블록의 판접 위치 획득을 위한 센서 모듈 시제품 개발 (A Prototype of Sensor Module to Control the Position of Hull Block for Tack Welding)

  • Alignment of the main plates during the tack welding is essential to block assembly since most of the curved blocks and outfitting parts are assembled on the jigs and fixtures. Tact welding of main plates is the initial process of the curved hull block assembly. Due to the heavy weight of the main plates it is difficult to locate the plate on the accurate position of the jig and fixtures before welding. The conventional masonry process requires much time and manual work in order to achieve the accurate alignment. This labour-intensive process results in relatively high errors and correction works. Due to their larger dimensions and heavier weights, these hull blocks are not ergonomically desirable and, therefore, various mechanical devices such as hydraulic balancers or hydraulic jigs are used for the plate alignment. In this study, the position-sensing scheme implemented by sensors is presented in order to align the main plates on the accurate position during the hull block assembly. Integrating the Infrared photo sensors and micro processor unit, a small scaled prototype of the position-sensing module is developed to determine the alignment of main plates.

접착제 접합된 자연섬유강화 복합재료의 파괴강도 특성에 미치는 접착제 필릿의 영향 (Effect of Spew Fillet on Failure Strength Properties of Natural Fiber Reinforced Composites Including Adhesive Bonded Joints)

  • This paper is concerned with a study on fracture strength of composites in an adhesive single lap joint. The tests were carried out on joint specimens made with hybrid stacked composites consisting of the polyester and bamboo natural fiber layer. The main objective of this work was to evaluate the fracture properties adjacent to adhesive bonded joint of natural fiber reinforced composite specimens. From the results, natural fiber reinforced composites have lower tensile strength than the original polyester. But tensile-shear strength of natural fiber reinforced composites with bamboo layer far from adhesive bond is as high as that of the original polyester adhesive bonded joints. Spew filet at the end of the overlap reduced the stress concentration at the bonded area. Spew fillet and position of bamboo natural fiber layer have a peat effect on the tensile-shear strength of natural fiber reinforced composites including adhesive bonded joints.

박형 기판의 사면 접합 공정 및 인장 특성 평가 (Scarf Welding of Thin Substrates and Evaluation of the Tensile Properties)

  • 본 연구에서는 플렉서블 레이저 투과 용접 (flexible laser transmission welding, f-LTW)을 이용한 박형 기판의 사면 접합 (scarf welding) 공정을 개발하였다. 플렉서블 응용을 위해 경사면의 기울기에 따른 인장 강도의 거동을 조사하였다. 박형 기판으로써 100 ㎛ 이하 두께의 플라스틱 기판이 사용되었으며, 사면 접합을 위해서 기판의 말단에 경사면을 형성하는 지그 장치를 개발하였다. 플렉서블 고분자 기판에 대한 경사면 맞대기 접합을 개발함으로써 공정 후 접합부 두께가 증가하지 않는 유연 접합 기술 개발에 성공하였다. 단축 인장시험을 통해 접합부의 인장 강도를 평가하였으며, 그 결과 경사면의 기울기가 완만할수록 인장 강도가 증가함을 확인하였다. 경사각에 따른 접합 계면에서의 응력 분석을 수행하여 접합 구조 설계 인자를 규명하였다. 본 결과는 동일한 공정 조건에서 접합부의 형상에 따라서 인장 강도가 크게 달라질 수 있음을 시사하므로 접합 공정에서 접합부 형상을 고려하는 것에 대한 중요성을 확인할 수 있다.

후판 용접부의 횡균열 발생 방지에 관한 연구(Ⅱ) (A Study on Prevention of Weld Transverse Crack for Thick Plate(Ⅱ))

  • Welding is widely applicable and reliable process and is mainly adopted for fabricating heavy structures. Recently, weld metal transverse cracks in butt and fillet weld joint is a serious problem, and they must be eliminated for improving weld joint reliability. The weld metal transverse crack susceptibility of butt and fillet joint was carried out by cantilever type tensile crack testing jig and CTS test. In this view of point, this study investigated the potential factors for weld metal transverse crack. The main results obtained were as follows: 1. The content o fdiffusible hydrogen in weld metal played an important role for weld metal transverse cracks. 2. From cantilever type tensile crack tests, it was pointed out that the higher the diffusible hydrogen content and tensile restraint, the more susceptible to weld metal transverse craking. 3. The TSN(thermal severity number) and diffusible hydrogen were important factors for determining weld metal transverse cracks in fillet weld joints.

자동차 산업분야의 효과적인 제조협업 구현을 위한 디지털 엔지니어링 적용 방법론에 대한 연구 (The Methodologies of Digital Engineering Applications to Manufacturing Collaborations in Automotive Industries)

  • Very special and tentative considerations including emotional aspects are required to apply any new mechanism and methodologies for manufacturing fields due to several reasons. This study reviews the characteristics of manufacturing collaborations through specific cases applied digital engineering to enhance the collaboration performance in manufacturing domains. Two cases of collaboration related with automotive manufacturing process are analyzed to extract meaningful insights for better collaboration model suggestions. The first case deals the robot simulation to find out advance errors in jig and fixture design during the various welding process of body-in-whites. The effective communication protocol to share their idea and agreed schedules are essential for this collaboration. More severe requirement of collaboration between R&D and manufacturing departments are studied in the second case for e-coating process. The invisible barriers among different departments are lowered by the process application of Computer Aided Engineering which can make sure their own interesting effectively. Those technical and managerial suggestions can be used when the information system and standard process are sought to implement and update not only when innovation projects are executed.

  • This study have processed the developing of vane damper with accurate control by using gear which is a flow-control equipment of marine boiler's FD fan on this research. For the developing of vane damper, we have corrected some problem from welding & assembly process by changing the design, and for the case of an emergency case, we have applied the easy disassembly & assembly on that vane damper. Compared to Rink type vane damper in current, we have focused on high efficiency with low price of that new developing damper. For selection of actuator, we have tried to find the propriety with our developing focus. Also, we have developed a jig of assembly processing for high productivity with quality, it caused the best assembly performance with heat-treated & processed parts.

원심 주조된 타이타늄과 타이타늄 합금의 레이저 용접 특성 (MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF LASER-WELDED CAST TITANIUM AND TITANIUM ALLOY)

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the output energy(voltage) of laser welding on the strength and properties of joint of cast titanium(CP Gr II) and titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V). Material and method : Cast titanium and its alloy rods(ISO6871) were prepared and perpendicularly cut at the center of the rod. After the cut halves were fixed in a jig, and the joints welded with a laser-welding machine at several levels of output voltage of $200V{\sim}280V$. Uncut specimens served as the non-welded control specimens The pulse duration and pulse spot size employed in this study were 10ms and 1.0mm respectively. Tensile testing was conducted at a crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. The ultimate tensile strength(MPa) was recorded, and the data (n=6) were statistically analyzed by one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) and Scheffe's test at ${\alpha}$=0.05. The fracture surface of specimens investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM). Vickers microhardness was measured under 500g load of 15seconds with the optimal condition of output voltage 280V. Results : The results of this study were obtained as follows, 1. When the pulse duration and spot size were fixed at 10ms and 1.0mm respectively, increasing the output energy(voltage) increased UTS values and penetration depth of laser welded to titanium and titanium alloy. 2. For the commercial titanium grade II, ultimate tensile strength(665.3MPa) of the specimens laser-welded at voltage of 280V were not statistically(p>0.05) different from the non-welded control specimens (680.2MPa). 3. For the titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V), ultimate tensile strength(988.3MPa) of the specimens laser-welded at voltage of 280V were statistically(p<0.05) different from the non-welded control specimens (665.0MPa). 4. The commercial titanium grade II and titanium alloy(Ti-6Al-4V) were Vickers microhardness values were increased in the fusion zone and there were no significant differences in base metal, heat-affected zone.
