Patent classification is becoming more critical as patent filings have been increasing over the years. Despite comprehensive studies in the area, there remain several issues in classifying patents on IPC hierarchical levels. Not only structural complexity but also shortage of patents in the lower level of the hierarchy causes the decline in classification performance. Therefore, we propose a new method of classification based on different criteria that are categories defined by the domain's experts mentioned in trend analysis reports, i.e. Patent Landscape Report (PLR). Several experiments were conducted with the purpose of identifying type of features and weighting methods that lead to the best classification performance using Support Vector Machine (SVM). Two types of features (noun and noun phrases) and five different weighting schemes (TF-idf, TF-rf, TF-icf, TF-icf-based, and TF-idcef-based) were experimented on.

In survival analysis of observational data, the inverse probability weighting method and the Cox proportional hazards model are widely used when estimating the causal effects of multiple-valued treatment. In this paper, the two kinds of weights have been examined in the inverse probability weighting method. We explain the reason why the stabilized weight is more appropriate when an inverse probability weighting method using the generalized propensity score is applied. We also emphasize that a marginal hazard ratio and the conditional hazard ratio should be distinguished when defining the hazard ratio as a treatment effect under the Cox proportional hazards model. A simulation study based on real data is conducted to provide concrete numerical evidence.
Dermaptera was investigated, examined and reviewed in taxonomy and for distribution in Youngnam region. Based on the data, the local species groups were measured to choose priority-conservation-area by taxonomic root weighting and distribution analysis at 232 geographical conservation units. Eleven species belonging to 4 families and 8 genera were recorded mounting up to 68.75% of species diversity known in Korea. Found remarkably were the rare and endangered Challia fletcheri Burr at Sobaek Mountain National Park, and unusually Anisolabis maritima (Bonelli) in Taegu, Euborellia pallipes (Shiraki) at Island Geoje and E. plebeja (Dohrn) at Hwanho near Pohang. The highest species diversity was found at the temple Huibang area at Sobaek Mountain National Park with 8 species, which was measured also as the primary priority-conservation-area with 83.41 % of accumulated taxonomic root weighting indices in percentage. Geoje and Hwanho both measured as 12.18% of accumulated taxonomic root weighting index in percentage and complimentary to Sobaek Mountain National Park but supporting 5 and 3 species, respectively. The priority goes to the geographical conservation unit supporting higher species richness between two geographical conservation units in comparison. By the rule, the second priority-conservation-area should be Geoje and the third Hwanho. It is, thus, demonstrated how 11 species can be all conserved by choosing 3 priority-conservation-areas out of 232 geographical conservation units to maintain maximum species in minimum areas.

Determining relative importance among many quality attributes under financial constraints is an important task. The weighted value of an attribute particularly in QFD, will influence on engineering characteristics and this will eventually influence the whole manufacturing process such as parts deployment, process planning, and production planning. Several scholars have suggested weighting formulas using CSC (Customer Satisfaction Coefficient) in the Kano model. However, previous research shows that the validity of the CSC approaches has not been proved systematically. The aim of the present study is to address drawbacks of CSC and to develop APC (Average Potential Coefficient), a new approach for weighting of quality attributes. For this, the current study investigated 33 quality attributes of e-learning and conducted a survey of 375 university students for the results of APC, the Kano model, and the direct importance of the quality attributes. The results show that the proposed APC is better than other approaches based on the correlation analysis with the results of direct importance. An analysis of e-leaning's quality perceptions using the Kano model and suggestions for improving e-learning's service quality are also included in this study.
This study was conducted to develop the evaluation model which can analyse local agenda 21 comprehensively and systematically from the making process to the designed contents. The evaluation model was devised through the theoretical review of local agenda 21 and designing the evaluation system composed of evaluation domains, related indicators and scales. The evaluation system was carefully constructed based on planning theories and the discussion and agreement of specialists regarding local agenda 21. This model has three evaluation domains of process, content, and evaluation of implementation with different weighting values. Each domain contains large indicators, medium indicators and small indicators. Each indicator has different weighting value according to its importance. Basically, each small indicator was scored by 3 or 5 point scale. This evaluation system can not only analyse local agenda 21 quantitatively, but also find out good points, problems, and limits of various phases of planning and implementing local agenda 21.

This study presents an H$_{\infty}$ optimal controller synthesis by the frequency domain analysis of weighting function. The main purpose of our study is to visualize weighting function domains and open loop transfer function domains that satisfy robustness and performance. Also we aim to simplify the iterative algorithm for H$\infty$ optimal controller synthesis. We report that the designed regulator by the proposed method in this paper satisfies the desired specifications and performance in spite of the plant uncertainty variation at any operating point.

The cost function consists of the weighting functions concerning the structural responses to be controlled and the controller capability. Therefore, the control efficiency depends on the characteristics of the weighting functions. The objective of this paper is the comparative study of the time domain control strategies of LQR and LQG and the frequency domain strategy of H₂ by setting the equivalent weighting functions to the all control strategies. As a result of analysis, LQR strategy is found to be more efficient than other strategies in terms of the response reduction. but the control force is found to be a little highter. As LQG can compensate the limitation of LQR that all state variables should be identified, LQG is more acceptable algorithm than LQR. Furthermore LQG shows a good performance both in the response reduction and the control force. Finally H₂ algorithm is employed to illustrate the importance of weighting filters considering the frequency characteristics of the response and the controller. It Is shown that the H₂ algorithm is found to be the most effective one for the response control with a little control force having a low frequency band.
Existing Differential GPS (DGPS) pseudorange correction (PRC) generation techniques based on a virtual reference station cannot effectively assign a weighting factor if the baseline distance between a user and a reference station is not long enough. In this study, a virtual reference station DGPS PRC generation technique was developed based on an enhanced inverse distance weighting method using an exponential function that can maximize a small baseline distance difference due to the dense arrangement of DGPS reference stations in South Korea, and its positioning performance was validated. For the performance verification, the performance of the model developed in this study (EIDW) was compared with those of typical inverse distance weighting (IDW), first- and second-order multiple linear regression analyses (Planar 1 and 2), the model of Abousalem (1996) (Ab_EXP), and the model of Kim (2013) (Kim_EXP). The model developed in the present study had a horizontal accuracy of 53 cm, and the positioning based on the second-order multiple linear regression analysis that showed the highest positioning accuracy among the existing models had a horizontal accuracy of 51 cm, indicating that they have similar levels of performance. Also, when positioning was performed using five reference stations, the horizontal accuracy of the developed model improved by 8 ~ 42% compared to those of the existing models. In particular, the bias was improved by up to 27 cm.
Based on the pilot reports (PIREPs) collected in South Korea from 2003 to 2008 and corresponding Regional Data Assimilation and Prediction System (RDAPS) analysis data of 30 km resolution, we validate the Korean Integrated Turbulence Forecasting Algorithm (KITFA) system that predicts clear-air turbulence (CAT) above the Korean peninsula. The CATs considered in this study are the upper level (higher than 20000 ft) turbulence excluding convectively induced turbulences. In the KITFA system, there are two main processes for predicting CATs: to select CAT indices and to determine their weighting scores. With the PIREPs observed for much longer period than those used in the current operational version of the KITFA system (March 4-April 8 of 2002), three improvable processes of the current KITFA system, re-calculation of weighting scores, change of method to calculate weighting scores, and re-selection of CAT indices, are tested. The largest increase of predictability is presented when CAT indices are selected by using longer PIREP data, with the minor change using different methods in calculation of weighting scores. The predictability is the largest in wintertime, and it is likely due to that most CAT indices are related to the jet stream that is strongest in wintertime. This result suggests that selecting proper CAT indices and calculating their weighting scores based on the longer PIREPs used in this study are required to improve the current KITFA.
In speaker verification based on LPC analysis the prediction residues are ignored and LPCC(LPC cepstrum) are only used to compose feature vectors. In this study, LPCC and RCEP (residual cepstrum) extracted from residues are used as feature parameters in the various environmental speaker verification. We propose the weighting function which can enlarge inter-speaker variation by weighting pitch, speaker inherent vector, included in residual cepstrum. Simulation results show that the average speaker verification rate is improved in the rate of 6% with RCEP and LPCC at the same time and is improved in the rate of 2.45% with the proposed weighted RCEP and LPCC at the same time compared with no weighting.
