  • This paper presents new scheduling heuristics, namely Mean Progressive Weighted Tardiness Estimator (MPWT) Heuristic Method and modified priority rules with sequence-dependent setup times consideration. These are designed to solve job shop scheduling problems with new performance measures - progressive weighted tardiness penalties. More realistic constraints, which are inter-machine overlapping sequence-dependent setup times, are considered. In real production environments, inter-machine overlapping sequence-dependent setups are significant. Therefore, modified scheduling generation algorithms of active and nondelay schedules for job shop problems with inter-machine overlapping sequence-dependent setup times are proposed in this paper. In addition, new customer-based measures of performance, which are total earliness and progressive weighted tardiness, and total progressive weighted tardiness, are proposed. The objective of the first experiment is to compare the proposed priority rules with the consideration of sequence-dependent setup times and the standard priority rules without setup times consideration. The results indicate that the proposed priority rules with setup times consideration are superior to the standard priority rules without the consideration of setup times. From the second experiment and the third experiment to compare the proposed MPWT heuristic approach with the efficient priority rules with setup times consideration, the MPWT heuristic method is significantly superior to the Batched Apparent Tardiness Cost with Sequence-dependent Setups (BATCS) rule, and other priority rules based on total earliness and progressive weighted tardiness, and total earliness and tardiness.

  • The purpose of this paper is to detect and identify topological errors in order to maintain a reliable database for the state estimator. In this paper, a two stage estimation procedure is used to identify the topology errors. At the first stage, the WSAV state estimator which has characteristics to remove bad data during the estimation procedure is run for finding out the suspected branches at which topology errors take place. The resulting residuals are normalized and the measurements with significant normalized residuals are selected. A set of suspected branches is formed based on these selected measurements; if the selected measurement is a line flow, the corresponding branch is suspected; if it is an injection, then all the branches connecting the injection bus to its immediate neighbors are suspected. A new WLAV state estimator adding the branch flow errors in the state vector is developed to identify the branch topology errors. Sample cases of single topology error and topology error with a measurement error are applied to IEEE 14 bus test system.

  • This paper addresses the issues of the parameter error detection and identification in electric power systems. In this paper, the parameter error identification and estimation is carried out as part of the state estimation. A two stage estimation procedure is used to detect and identify the parameter errors. The suspected parameters are identified by the WLAV state estimator as the first stage. A new WLAV state estimator adding the suspected system parameters in the state vector is used to estimate the exact value of parameter errors. Supporting examples are given by using IEEE 14 bus system.

  • In the operation of a power system, the security of the system has acquired significant importance to supply electric power of better quality. The State Estimator, a part of security functions, provides a complete real time solution estimate of the steady-state conditions of the power system for use by the Real Time Network Analysis functions. This paper briefly introduces the Fast Decoupled Weighted Least Square State Estimator which is adopted in the KEPCO EMS with features of Man-Machine Interface.

  • A practical recursive WLS (weighted least squares) algorithm is proposed to estimate relative range using LOS (line-of-sight) information for ASM (anti-ship missile) application. Apart from the previous approaches based on the EKF (extended Kalman filter), to ensure good convergence properties in long range engagement situations, the proposed scheme utilizes LOS rate measurements instead of conventionally used LOS angle measurements. The estimation error property for the proposed filter is investigated and a simple error compensator is devised to enhance its estimation error performances. Simulation results indicate that the proposed filter produces very accurate range estimates with extremely small computations.

  • The log-Gumbel distribution in real space is defined by transforming the conventional log-Gumbel distribution in log space. For this model, the parameter estimation techniques are applied based on the methods of moments, maximum likelihood and probability weighted moments. The asymptotic variances of estimator of the quantiles for each estimation method are derived to find the confidence limits for a given return period. Finally, the log-Gumbel model is applied to actual flood data to estimate the parameters, quantiles and confidence limits.

  • We find a class of admissible Bayes estimator for the mean vector ${\theta}=({\theta}_{1},{\theta}_{2},...,{\theta}_{p}$ of Poisson distribution under a LINEX loss function. The Monte Carlo Simulation is performed to compare the emprical Bayes estimater under the LINEX loss function and weighted squared error loss respectively.

  • A weighted self-tuning robust regression estimator (WSTE) has the high breakdown point for estimating regression parameters such as other well known high breakdown estimators. In this paper, we propose to obtain standard quantities like confidence intervals, and it is found to be superior to the other high breakdown regression estimators when a sample is contaminated

  • This paper addresses the issues of the parameter error detection and identification in power system. The parameter error identification is carried out as part of the state estimation procedure. The weighted least absolute value(WLAV) estimation method is used for this procedure. The standard formulation of the state estimation problem is modified to include the effects of the parameter errors as well. A two step procedure for the detection and identification of faulted parameters is proposed. Supporting examples are given using IEEE 14 bus system.
