Designing and Developing the Agricultural Information Management System of North Korea

  • In North Korea, there has been the considerable loss of human lives every yew due to the deficiency of foods. Thus, in order to reduce such damages, a research project should be launched to provide various information for cooperation with North Korean government, and to develop proper agricultural management system. Furthermore, based on the water resources information map generated by KOWACO (Korea Water Resources Corporation) and the environmental information system developed by MOE (Ministry of Environment), an agricultural information infrastructure of North Korea and a management system need to be effectively performed. Therefore, this research is mainly to develop the Agricultural Information Management System of North Korea (NKAIMS), which can collect, manage and analyze agricultural information and water resources utilization status of North Korea, and further support to make relevant decisions and establish the agricultural land-use plans. This research has three phases. The major outcome of the first phase is collecting the agricultural and water resources utilization data such as soils, rivers, streams, collective farms, etc., designing and building database, and developing integrated management system considering the users' requirements. The main work of the second phase is improving and reinforcing database such as adding the information of dams, land-over data, bridges, tunnels, satellite images, etc., inspecting and renewing such as importing detail attribute information of reservoirs, and improving system for more conveniently using. The third phase will be to supplement more useful functions such as statistic analysis, continually inspecting and improving database, and developing web-based system. The product of this research supports collecting and analyzing relevant data to facilitate easier agricultural activities and support effective decision making for food production in the preparation of unification. Moreover, through designing database considering sharing information and system expendability, it can support systematic data usability of agricultural information and save cost for data management.

  • In this paper, we design a semantic-based syllabus template including learning ontologies. A syllabus has been considered as a important blueprint of teaching in universities. However, the current syllabus has no importance in real world because most of all syllabus management systems provide simple functionalities such as, creation, modification, and retrieval. In this paper, our approach consists of definition of hierarchical structure of syllabus and semantic relationships of syllabuses, formalization of learning goals, learning activity, and learning evaluation using Bloom's taxonomy and design of learning subject ontologies for improving the usability of syllabus. We prove the correctness of our proposed methods according to implementing a real syllabus for JAVA programing course and experiments for retrieving syllabuses.

Development of a Nutrition Education Website for Children (초등학생 대상의 영양교육 웹사이트 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a nutrition education website for children, especially those around the 4th-6th grade levels. Among the already existing websites providing nutritional information for children, 7 websites with comparable amounts of information were evaluated in terms of their topics, credibility, content, ease of use, and aesthetics. In addition, a survey was conducted to assess the need for nutrition information among 305 elementary students. The food pyramid was the topic offered most often on those websites. Information on nutrients, digestion, food safety, nutrition labeling, and healthy eating habits were available on the websites. Some of those websites also provided games or quizzes to attract the children's interest. However, seine of the websites did not give any information on the person responsible for providing the information, which is most important in determining the credibility of the website. Other problems were that some information was too difficult for children, and some of the websites did not provide a way to search for information. According to the survey results, the topics that children wanted to know about were‘desirable weight’,‘cooking’,‘correct food choice’,‘weight control method’,‘calories consumed during exercise’, but, they did not have a high interest in‘asking questions’‘books with nutrition messages’,‘under weight’,‘negative effect of weight control’and‘helping hungry children’. Based on these results, we developed a new nutrition education web-site, ifood’(http: //1 ifood.or.kr). We focused on helping children develop healthy eating habits by providing information which is easy and practical for children. However, we neither included the program to assess their dietary intake, nor provided entertaining background sounds, which children like. Also, the game section is composed mainly of quizzes. Therefore, we need to further develop exciting games to teach nutrition to children. In the near future, the newly developed website should be evaluated by children regarding understandability and coverage of the contents as well as usability and design, and then revised to improve the educational effect.

MultiHammer: A Virtual Auction System based on Information Agents

  • In this paper, we propose a virtual action system based on information agents, We call the system the MultiHammer, MultiHammer can be used for studying and analyzing online actions. MuiltiHammer provides functions of implement-ing a meta online action site and an experiment environ-ment. We have been using MultiHammer as an experiment as an experiment environment for BiddinBot. BiddingBot aims at assisting users to bid simultaneously in multiple online auctions. In order to bid simultaneously in multiple online auctions. In order to analyze the behavior of BiddngBot, we need to pur-chase a lot of items. It is hard for us to prepare a lot of fund to show usability and advantage of BiddingBot. MultiHam-mer enables us to effectively analyze the behavior of BiddingBot. MultiHammer consists of three types of agents for information collecting data storing and auctioning. Agents for information wrappers. To make agent work as wrarp-pers, we heed to realize software modules for each online action site. Implementing these modules reguires a lot of time and patience. To address this problem, we designed a support mechanism for developing the modules. Agents for data storing record the data gathered by agents for informa-tion collecting. Agents for auctioning provide online services using data recorded by agents for data storing. By recording the activities in auction sites. MultiHammer can recreate any situation and trace auction for experimentation, Users can participate in virtual using the same information in real online auctions.   • With the convergence of disciplines in progress and Web 2.0 online collaborative environment, online knowledge exchange activities of researchers are increasing. Quickness of acquiring knowledge highly impacts on research productivity in the global era. Online knowledge exchange is critical service for researchers. In this study, knowledge exchange service model was presented from the perspective of activate participation, knowledge quality improvement, quickness of exchanges. A variety of domestic and international knowledge exchange services were analyzed, particularly Korean domestic service KOSEN What is? as for operational practice. It is confirmed that in order to stimulate researcher knowledge exchange the quality of the knowledges exchanged is essential and variety of operating activities are needed such as expert matching systems, enhancement of speed in knowledge exchange, ease of usability, and elements of fun.

A Comparative Analysis of Content-based Music Retrieval Systems (내용기반 음악검색 시스템의 비교 분석)

  • This study compared and analyzed 15 CBMR (Content-based Music Retrieval) systems accessible on the web in terms of DB size and type, query type, access point, input and output type, and search functions, with reviewing features of music information and techniques used for transforming or transcribing of music sources, extracting and segmenting melodies, extracting and indexing features of music, and matching algorithms for CBMR systems. Application of text information retrieval techniques such as inverted indexing, N-gram indexing, Boolean search, truncation, keyword and phrase search, normalization, filtering, browsing, exact matching, similarity measure using edit distance, sorting, etc. to enhancing the CBMR; effort for increasing DB size and usability; and problems in extracting melodies, deleting stop notes in queries, and using solfege as pitch information were found as the results of analysis.

  • As the multimedia data increase a lot with the rapid development of the Internet, an efficient retrieval technique focusing on individual users is required based on the analyses of such data. However, user modeling services provided by recent web sites have the limitation of text-based page configurations and recommendation retrieval. In this paper, we construct the user preference model with a Bayesian network to apply the user modeling to video retrieval, and suggest a method which utilizes probability reasoning. To do this, context information is defined in a real office environment and the video scripts acquired from established cameras and annotated the context information manually are used. Personal information of the user, obtained from user input, is adopted for the evidence value of the constructed Bayesian Network, and user preference is inferred. The probability value, which is produced from the result of Bayesian Network reasoning, is used for retrieval, making the system return the retrieval result suitable for each user's preference. The usability test indicates that the satisfaction level of the selected results based on the proposed model is higher than general retrieval method.

A Study on the Public Data Activation Strategy based on App Developed by Non-Profession User

  • In Korea, the act for promoting use of the public data has been enforced since 2013. The Key Government 3.0 Strategy was established for providing the public data as an obligation of public authorities for users to use them free of charge. The aim of open public data and using them targeted by the government is creation of a solution for vitalizing the economy by using the public data. However, the reason for low usability and tangible outcomes despite unlimited provision of open government data is as follows. That is, it is essential to address the issue of difficult software technology required to access public data for using the data. However, with the open API method currently provided, the development procedure is not easy even for IT students or specialized software developers. Therefore, strategies for each step ideal for the level of developers are required to vitalize applications based on the public data and developed by ordinary users. Two strategic methods can be used for facilitating the use of public data and applications developed by ordinary users suggested in this paper on the basis of the public data portal organized by the Ministry of the Interior and provided to all ordinary users. That is, they are applications developed in the web browser environment and those developed in the PC environment. They allow ordinary users to develop and distribute applications based on the public data to contribute to enforcing the policy for facilitating the use of public data of the government just with basic training and basic knowledge from the training without using program coding knowledge of open API which requires the knowledge of development professionals.

Automatic Generation of Diverse Cartoons using User's Profiles and Cartoon Features (사용자 프로파일 및 만화 요소를 활용한 다양한 만화 자동 생성)

  • With the spread of Internet, web users express their daily life by articles, pictures and cartons to recollect personal memory or to share their experience. For the easier recollection and sharing process, this paper proposes diverse cartoon generation methods using the landmark lists which represent the behavior and emotional status of the user. From the priority and causality of each landmark, critical landmark is selected for composing the cartoon scenario, which is revised by story ontology. Using similarity between cartoon images and each landmark in the revised scenario, suitable cartoon cut for each landmark is composed. To make cartoon story more diverse, weather, nightscape, supporting character, exaggeration and animation effects are additionally applied. Through example scenarios and usability tests, the diversity of the generated cartoon is verified.

A Study on Impact of Media Use Characteristics/Evaluation for Guide Channel on Intention to use VOD provided by Multichannel Service Provider (유료방송 서비스 이용자의 미디어 이용특성과 가이드 채널에 대한 평가가 VOD 이용의사에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • In this study VOD usage patterns(VOD use and paid amount) of IPTV users were investigated reflecting the level of media use characteristics such as TV viewing time, star preference, and genre preference. Also the impact of media using characteristics and the evaluation of guide channel on the intention to use VOD was analyzed. The web survey was conducted against the respondents who have used VOD and guide channel. The results are as follows. Among the media usage characteristics, star preference has the impact on the VOD use, while genre preference has relation to the willingness to pay for VOD. Secondly, the intention to view the guide channel, entertainment of the channel, and the users' genre preference have significant impacts on the intention to use VOD. Therefore, it is necessary to raise the viewing rate of guide channel by providing the customized promotion strategy and diverse events based on the analysis of VOD usage.
