A Study on the Modeling and Diagnostics in Drilling Operation (드릴링 작업의 모델링과 진단법에 관한 연구)

  • The identification of drilling joint dynamics which consists of drilling and structural dynamics and the on-line time series detection of malfunction process is substantial not only for the investigation of the static and dynamic characteristics but also for the analytic realization of diagnostic and control systems in drilling. Therefore, We have discussed on the comparative assessment of two recursive time series modeling algorithms that can represent the drilling operation and detect the abnormal geometric behaviors in precision roundshape machining such as turning, drilling and boring in precision diemaking. For this purpose, simulation and experimental work were performed to show the malfunctional behaviors for drilling operation. For this purpose, a new two recursive approach (Recursive Extended Instrument Variable Method : REIVM, Recursive Least Square Method : RLSM) may be adopted for the on-line system identification and monitoring of a malfunction behavior of drilling process, such as chipping, wear, chatter and hole lobe waviness.

  • The high-speed machining technology of difficult-to-cut material is needed to achieve the high-efficiency of die manufacturing. The high-speed machining is applied in automobile, airplane and electricityㆍelectro industry etc, because it can improve machining efficiency and productivity with high speed, high power and high rotation. In this study, high speed machinability, tool wear characteristics and its monitoring, characteristics of damaged layer, machinability of difficult-to-cut material, characteristics of a free curved surface and method of CAD/CAM system were introduced to acquire the shortening of machining time, the improvement of machining efficiency and the high quality of machined surface. Therefore, we establish the stabilization condition of difficult-to-cut material machining and present the optimal cutting condition for high-efficiency cutting.

  • This study aims to analyze the structural safety by comparing deformation and equivalent stress of door with a stiffener or no stiffener when the door crashes against something in case of overturn. Three types are classified on the basis of the no stiffener model in the vehicle door. One is the type which has a stiffener. Another is the type which has no stiffener and the other is the type which has a hole in the stiffener. These three types are compared with each other by analyzing. This side door of vehicle is the automotive part about the kind of vehicle as Mercedes Benz E-Klasse scaled down as 1/18 times as the real size. The study model of vehicle door is modelled by CATIA program and it is analyzed by ANSYS.

  • An experimental modeling of cutting and structural dynamics and the on-line detection of malfunction process is substantial not only for the investigation of the static and dynamic characteristics of cutting process but also for the analytic realization of diagnostic systems. In this regard, We have discussed on the comparative assessment of two recursive time series modeling algorithms that can represent the machining process and detect the abnormal machining behaviors in precision round shape machining such as turning, drilling and boring in mold and die making. In this study, simulation and experimental work were performed to show the malfunctioned behaviors. For this purpose, two new recursive approach (REIVM, RLSM) were adopted fur the on-line system identification and monitoring of a machining process, we can apply these new algorithm in real process for the detection of abnormal machining behaviors such as chipping, chatter, wear and round shape lobe waviness.

  • 저속 2행정 디젤엔진의 대형화 및 고출력화에 따라 피스톤링 및 실린더라이너 등은 보다 가혹한 마찰/마모 조건에 노출되고 있으며 비정상적인 마찰/마모 등 윤활 관련 문제가 빈번하게 발생되고 있다. 이러한 마모 문제를 해결하기 위해 윤활 설계 개선, 윤활유 성능 개선, 마모 메카니즘 규명 등의 다양한 관점에서 대책안들이 연구되어 제시되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 실린더라이너의 이상 마모 현상 등을 방지하기 위한 윤활 및 마모 모니터링 기술 동향에 대해 살펴보고 윤활유 모니터링 시스템 개발 사례에 대해 소개 하고자 한다.

Estimation of End Milling Depth of Cuts Using the Cutting Force (절삭력을 이용한 엔드밀링 절입깊이 추정)

  • In the end milling process, the information of axial and depths of cut plays an important role in adaptive control systems for precision machining and tool monitoring systems for unmanned machining. In general, it is not easy to know the depths of cut due to irregular shape of workpieces, inaccurate positioning of them on the table of machine tool and machining error in previous cutting. In addition to, even they are informed, it is difficult to match the individual position of the cutter on the varying shape of the work material. This work suggest an algorithm estimating the depths of cut based on cutting force sigal. The proposed algorithm can be applied in more extensive cutting situations, for example, presence of the tool wear, variation of work material hardness, etc.

  • In surface grinding, the conditions of the grinding wheel give a significant effect on the ground workpieces comparing with other metal removal processes. In this paper, to assist the development, a non-contacting optical method is introduced to make in-process measurements of scattering intensities from laser beam during surface grinding processes. This show indications of changes in surface texture of wheel working surfaces. Also, in order to determine the dressing time monitoring method of grinding wheel in surface grinding, a three-dimensional computer simulation of the grinding operation has been attempted based on the contact mechanism and surface-shaping system between the grinding wheel and the workpiece. The optical dressing time is determined based on the amount of the grain wear and work surface roughness.

Degradation characteristics of pumps in nuclear power plants (원전 펌프의 성능저하 특성)

  • In the present study, degradation characteristics of pumps in nuclear power plants were investigated to provide the information of degradation mechanism and stressors. The failure records of pumps for the periods 2000 to 2006 on INPO(Institute of Nuclear Power Operations) EPIX(Equipment Performance and Information Exchange System) DB were reviewed. The 1,834 failure records reveal that the critical areas of pump failures are bearing, mechanical seal, gasket/o-ring, shaft, impeller, coupling and packing. Based on the failure rate of critical areas, the important degradation mechanism and stressors were determined. Additionally, the relationship between degradation mechanism and stressors such as wear was examined. Finally, the monitoring parameters related to degradation and stressors were discussed for the future development of degradation evaluation and prognosis technology of pumps.

  • With increasing interest in the reduction of cost for operation and maintenance of overhead catenary system, various methods of condition monitoring have been developed and used in with high-speed analysis and advanced image processing techniques. This study utilizes a high-speed camera as inspecting system to measure the wear, stagger, hight and arc extinguishing test of overhead catenary system. All measuring image were captured by a high speed CMOS camera with PCI express output, which can acquire up to 1000 frames per second with the resolution 1024 × 1280 pixels. Line type laser source with a power equal to 300 mW and the National Instrument LabVIEW (8.0) based on vision acquisition software have been used in application programming interface for image acquisition, display, and storage. The proposed high-speed camera system is finally applied to measure the overhead catenary system showing promising on-field applications

  • The calibration of O.M.D is carried out experimentally and is analysed theoretically. O.M.D experimentally measures the change in optical density of artificially contaminated oil which contains Fe powder of 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 70, 100, 200 ppm. The change in optical density, D$_1$ means the logarithmic transmittance of I$_0$ over $I_1 D_2$ denotes the logarithmic transmittance I$_2$ over I$_1$ on electromagnetic force which arranges the ferrous particles along the line of magnetic force. The theoretical D$_1$ which increases linearly as increasing Fe concentrations, is analysed by light attenuation theory. The difference between theoretical D$_1$ and experimental D$_1$ is due to the attenuation of micro bubbles and the agglomeration of fine particles in the sample oil. The calibrated O.M.D is applied to the sample oil from the high-powered diesel engine. Also the results are compared with those out of the off-line techniques such as JOAP and ICP.
