Fiber Bragg Grating sensors currently attract a great deal of attentions, mainly due to their potentials in health monitoring for civil structures and composite materials. In this experimental study, the strains of reinforced concrete beams were measured to failure In order to verify the applicability of FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors. The FBG sensors were directly buried in concrete and attached to re-bars at the time of fabrication. In this experiment, the changes of strains in concrete and re-bars were successfully measured as the movement in wavelength of light signals. The FBG sensors may be a very effective tool to investigate the behavior inside of reinforced concrete structures.

LiDAR systems are usually incorporated a laser scanner and GPS/INS modules with a digital aerial camera. LiDAR point clouds and digital aerial images acquired by the systems provide complementary spatial information on the ground. In addition, some of laser scanners provide intensity, radiometric information on the surface of the earth. Since the intensity is unnecessary of registration and provides the radiometric information at a certain wavelength on the location of LiDAR point, it can be a valuable ancillary information but it does not deliver sufficient radiometric information compared with digital images. This study utilize the LiDAR points as ground control points (GCPs) to adjust exterior orientations(EOs) of the stereo images. It is difficult to find exact point of LiDAR corresponding to conjugate points in stereo images, but this study used intensity of LiDAR as an ancillary data to find the GCPs. The LiDAR points were successfully used to adjust EOs of stereo aerial images, therefore, successfully provided the prerequisite for the precise registration of the two data sets from the LiDAR systems.
In the fibre to the home (FTTH) era, it is expected that broadband network provisioning will require thousands of optical fibres to be accommodated in a central office for optical access networks. An optical fibre line testing system could be used to reduce maintenance costs and improve service availability depending on the PON's element manager capabilities and the maintenance procedures adopted by the network supplier. When monitoring optical fibres transmitting communication lights, a wavelength of 1625 nm is used for maintenance testing. The splitter installed optical filters allow the communication light to pass but that cut off the test light in the front of optical line terminals (OLTs) and optical network terminals (ONTs). In the economic point of view, We design new planer lightwave circuit splitter embedded filtter and study it optical property.

Epoxy composite reinforced with 3-D braided Glass/Aramid hybrid fabric was fabricated. FBG sensor was embedded along the braid yam in order to monitor the changes of the complicated inner region of the 3-D braid structure. The good linearity between Bragg wavelength and temperature was verified by several preliminary experiments. The strain inside 3-D braided beam was estimated using FBG sensor system, and the result was compared with the calculated value. It was found that FBG sensor system is very useful technique to investigate inside region of complicated structure.
Vegetation shows unique spectrum characteristics compared with other materials. If such characteristics are used, land change pattern can be determined. Thus, vegetation has an absorption belt and a reflective belt in visible and near infrared, and reflectance is very high. Then, various methods of monitoring vegetation paying attention to the absorption wavelength region and reflective region of vegetation are proposed. However, there are various problems in grasping change of vegetation by NDVI, PVI, etc. It is very difficult especially to remove various noise ingredients in the received satellite data. Until now, it is difficult to compensate for shadow effect when NDVI is used in vegetation analysis. The results is, if the shadow is about 60% the pixel will be wrongly classified as may be vegetation or not.
Pulse oximetry, which monitors non-invasively the oxygen saturation in blood, is influenced by patient's respiration, movement or a factor of an environment. Specially, it's difficult to measure a PPG (Photoplethsmography) signal from the moving patient because of the motion artifact. Accordingly, it is required to extract the pure PPG signal from the PPG signal to measure oxygen saturation. In this paper, we propose an adaptive noise canceller to improve the performance of motion artifact removal. Then we design a hardware system for real time monitoring of the oxygen saturation. The proposed algorithm estimates the slope of transition rate between two different wavelength signals.

In this paper, to detect external sound frequency on the latticed structure, fiber optic sensor net using Sagnac interferometer was fabricated and tested. The latticed structure fabricated with dimension of 50cm in width and 50cm in height, the optical fiber, 50m in length, distributed and fixed on the latticed structure. Single mode fiber, a laser with 1,550nm in wavelength, 2${\times}$2 coupler were used. External sound signal applied to the fiber optic sensor net and the detected optical signals were compared and analyzed to the detected microphone signals against time and frequency domain. Based on the experimental results, fiber optic sensor net using Sagnac interferometer detected external sound frequency, effectively. This system can be expanded to the structural health monitoring system.
The effects of laser welding beam quality is very large. However, not an analysing case was found for the difference on the plasma emission signal during laser welding according to the beam quality. Therefore, in this study, we compared and evaluated penetration and signal change according to the beam quality at the a similar wavelength band by using a fiber laser and Nd:YAG laser. In addition, we took high speed videography in order to make sure that FFT analysis reflects the actual motion period of keyhole and found the period of video analysis and FFT mostly matched. As a result, it is expected to secure higher reliability than evaluating signal intensity when appling FFT to monitoring.

The ellipso-microscopic observation of a titanium surface undergoing anodization in $0.05mol\;dm^{-3}$ of $H_2SO_4$ was conducted. During irradiation by ultra-violet (UV) light with a wavelength of 325 nm, the titanium surface allowed for the flow of a photo-induced current and showed up as a bright, patch-like image on an ellipso-microscopic view. The brightness and patch-pattern in the image changed with flowing photo-induced current. The changes in the brightness and the image corresponded to the formation and/or degradation of titanium oxide due to the photo-electrochemical reaction of the oxide. An in situ monitoring using the ellipso-microscope revealed that the film change was dependent on the irradiation light power, by UV-light increases the anodic current and results in the initiation of pitting at lower potentials as compared with the non-irradiated condition.
Noninvasive monitoring of total Hemoglobin value is feasible with the use of spectroscopic measurements. As a step toward tile final goal of the development of a noninvasive monitor, the spectra$(400{\sim}800mm)$of EDTA whole blood were obtained along with reference total Hemoglobin values. Under the same condition water spectrum was generated. It was subtracted from each blood sample, and then tile first derivative of each subtracted data was taken by 'approximated first derivative algorithm' with gap (1,6,10,20nm). The correlation was obtained between total Hemoglobin and first valley wavelength of first derivative spectrum (sample number: 93).
