It takes a long period to conduct the test on soil water retention curve (SWRC) in unsaturated soils. To improve such a problem, the high air entry disk has been replaced by micro-membrane. After the soil water retention test, the results by the micro-membrane were compared with those by the ceramic disk. Multiple samples in 5 regions were used to validate that SWRCs by micro-membrane are equivalent to those by ceramic disk. Therefore, a quick procedure based on micro-membrane has been developed, which makes it available to acquire much soil water retention data. The data of SWRCs were obtained for total 29 samples using ceramic disk or micro-membrane. For Korean weathered soils, the unsaturated hydraulic characteristics are sorted by three groups. Based on van Genuchten model, the group is divided by the parameter n, and the value of n could be correlated to the void ratio as each function.

Determination of 137Cs, 40K and 210Po in water, bottom sediments and suspended matter of river systems of the Can Gio Biosphere Reserve, Vietnam was carried out. The average activity concentration of 137Cs in waters of Ca Gau and Long Tau was 0.89 ± 0.14 and 1.08 ± 0.15 Bq m-3 and was comparable to the levels of this radioisotope in waters of the East Sea. The activity concentration of 137Cs in bottom sediments was 2.23 ± 0.81 and 3.63 ± 1.24 Bq kg-1. The activity concentration of 137Cs in water and bottom sediments could be characterized as low. So, the water areas of the Ca Gau and Long Tau rivers could be attributed to areas with insignificant pollution by technogenic radionuclides. The 210Po activity concentration in bottom sediments of the Ca Gau and Long Tau rivers ranged from 9.2 ± 1.2 to 25.5 ± 2.1 Bq kg-1, which is typical for river bottom sediments. Such values indicate the absence of anthropogenic enhancement of the entry of this radionuclide into the Can Gio river systems. The 40K activity concentration varied within 467 ± 42-651 ± 39 Bq kg-1 and represented typical values of potassium content in the bottom sediments of coastal water bodies, subject to a significant influence of the lithogenic component of suspended matter.
The entry of antipyrine and urea from the peritoneal cavity of rabbit into organ tissue and blood plasma was studied. Two hundred mg of antipyrine plus 300 mg of urea in 10 ml Ringer's solution was injected into the peritoneal cavity of anesthetized rabbit. The injection was made from above of a rabbit kept tying right side down and it enabled part of the abdominal organs (liver, intestine, kidney) was immersed in the injected solution and kept high concentration gradient throughout the experimental period. The remaining part of the organs was revered only by a thin film of the test solution. Subsequently, in this part of the organs the concentration gradient of the diffusible substances during entry was presumed to decrease as time elapsed. Four pieces of the liver tissue were taken namely, the right superficial, right deep, left superficial and left deep portions. Two were taken from the small intestine, one from the portion which was immersed in. the fluid and the other from that above the fluid mass. Both kidneys were separately analyzed. As a remote organ the gastrocnemius muscle was taken from the right leg of the animal. The intervals which were the time periods elapsed after injections were 5,7,10,15 or 30 minutes. At each point 5 animals were sacrificed and the concentrations of the test substances in the tissue water were measured. The results obtained were as follows. 1. In the liver the right portion which was immersed in the fluid showed higher concentration if the test substances than the left portion and the superficial region exceeded the deep region. The concentrations diminished as the time elapsed after infusion, particulary in the case of antipyrine, suggesting circulatory removal of the substances. In urea such decreasing tendency of the concentration was not obvious, and suggested slower removal rate of it as compared with that of antipyrine. 2. In the small intestine there was no regional difference in the concentration of the test substances. Because of the intestinal motility different portions of the intestine were seemed to have bathed in the fluid of the same concentration. In general the concentrations in the intestinal wall exceeded those of the liver, suggesting a slower removal rate than in the latter. 3. In the kidney the accumulation of the endogenous urea was predominant, and the accumulating mechanism in the renal tissue went on during the period of the experiment. Therefore it revealed increasing tendencies as the time elapsed. The penetration of the test substances in this organ from the peritoneal cavity seemed to be slower than in other abdominal organs, namely liver or small intestine. Part of the test substances in the kidney were obviously brought by the blood stream. 4. Rapid exponential decay of the concentration of antipyrine and of the osmolality of the peritoneal fluid was attributed to the extensive removal through the whole dimension of the peritoneal surface, and the remote organ such as the gastrocnemius muscle attained a fairly close value to that of the abdominal organs in less than 30 minutes. The factors which related to the absorption rate were discussed. They were the concentration gradient, permeability and the regional perfusion rate.
Fluid-body interaction analysis of floating body with six degree-of-freedom motion is presented. In this study, three-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations are employed as a governing equation. The numerical method is based on a finite-volume approach on a cartesian grid together with a fractional-step method. To represent the body motion, the immersed boundary method for direct forcing is employed. In order to simulate the coupled six degree-of-freedom motion, Euler's equations based on rigid body dynamics are utilized. To represent the complex body shape, level-set based algorithm is utilized. In order to describe the free surface motion, the volume of fluid method utilizing the tangent of hyperbola for interface capturing scheme is employed. This study showed three different continuums(air, water and body) are simultaneously simulated by newly developed code. To demonstrate the applicability of the current approach, two different problems(dam-breaking with stationary obstacle and water entry) are simulated and all results are validated.

The development of subcutaneous emphysema is a well-known complication that has been reported after dental extraction, endodontic treatment, or restorative preparation. Gaseous invasion, leading to swelling, crepitus on palpation, is commonly restricted to the connective tisssues immediately adjacent to the entry site. However, the use of compressed air- and water-cooled turbines may allow large amounts of air and water to be driven through the fascial planes into the mediastinum, pleural space, or even the retroperitoneum. This case report is about the patient who presented with subcutaneous emphysema that occurred after fracture line inspection. Possible cause, treatment, and prevention of emphysema will be discussed.
The purpose of this study is to analyse existing hysteresis models and to propose a new type of model. The existing hysteresis models are classified by three types: interpolation model, scaling model and domain model, of which the domain model is based on the theoretical approach. Models which need one branch of hysteresis loop for calibration are developed based on the independent domain concept, however, they are not successful to accurately simulate the real data and Rubicon Sandy Loam and Dune Sand. There is a possibility that a new model is based on the dependent domain model considering the pore blockage effect against air entry for homogeneous porous media(modelIII-1, Mualem, 1984). Concludingly, a new type of hysteresis model is proposed by simplifying ModelIII-1 using a proper assumption.

In order to study hydraulic properties and mechanical properties on unsaturated region, soil-water retention curve was obtained for suction plate method and pressure plate method, respectively. To investigate permeability of unsaturated soil and soil-water retention curve at the same time, unsaturated permeability tests using an improved Richard's method were performed on Joomoonjin Sand. These experimental results were compared with those by empirical equations. The relationship between air entry value and saturated permeability of filter was obtained for selecting a proper filter in unsaturated soil tests.

This study presents the results of a slamming experiment using a pneumatic cylinder. The employment of the pneumatic cylinder showed a relatively good repeatability when the results were compared with those of other slamming devices. The experiment was done for various incident angles. An air pocket was believed to cause a reduction in the magnitude of the impact pressure with an incident angle of $0^{\circ}$ for the water entry. A high speed camera was used in an attempt to locate the time of the contact between the bottom of the specimen and the free surface. It seemed that the maximum pressure occurred before the water contacted the bottom of the specimen.
Various bearings such as deep-groove ball bearings, angular-contact ball bearings, and roller bearings are used to support the load and to lubricate between the shaft and the housing. The bearings of potential rolling systems in a turbo pump are the deep-groove ball bearings as comparing with the bearings with rolling elements such as cylindrical rollers, tapered cylindrical rollers, and needle rollers. The deep-groove ball bearings consist of rolling elements, an inner raceway, an outer raceway and a retainer that maintain separation and help to lubricate the rolling element that is rotating in the raceways. In the case of water-lubricated ball bearings, however, fluid friction between the ball and raceways is affected by the entry direction of flow, rotation speed, and flow rate. In addition, this friction is the key factor affecting the bearing life cycles and reliability. In this paper, the characteristics of flow conditions corresponding to a deep-groove ball bearing are investigated numerically, with particular focus on the friction distribution on the rolling element, in order to extend the analysis to the area that experiences solid friction. A simple analysis model of fluid flow inside the water-lubricated ball bearing is analyzed with CFD, and the flow characteristics at high rotation speeds are presented.

The aim of the work described in this paper is to develope a constitutive model for the prediction of an unsaturated clayey soil and to confirm the application of the model. To this end a series of suction controlled isotropic and triaxial compression tests are conducted on clayey soils. Matric suction is controlled by the axis translation technique using high air entry ceramic disk. Total volume change, air and water volume changes are measured by the device made for the experiment. The specimens are compacted by dynamic compaction using a half of Proctor compaction energy with the water contents of 5% drier than the optimum moisture contents. From test results, volume changes and deviator stresses are analyzed at each state and their relationships are formulated. And the application of the model to clayey soils is confirmed by the comparison between test and predicted results. During drying-wetting and loading-unloading processes for isotropic states, the agreement between predicted and test results are satisfactory. And predicted deviator stresses are well agreed with the test results in shearing process, but volumetric strain is not well agreed with the test results in high suctions.
