A surface-piercing barrier model is presented for understanding morphological development in the sheltered region and investigating the main factors causing the severe accumulation. Surface-piercing structures like vertical barriers, surface docks and floating breakwaters are recently favored from the point of view of a marine scenario since they do not in general partition the natural sea. The numerical solutions are compared with experimental data on wave profiles and morphological change rates within a rectangular harbor of a constant depth protected by surface-piercing thin breakwaters as a simplified problem. Our numerical study involves several modules: 1) wave dynamics analyzed by a plane-wave approximation, 2) suspended sediment transport combined with sediment erosion-deposition model, and 3) concurrent morphological changes. Scattering waves are solved by using a plane wave method without inclusion of evanescent modes. Evanescent modes are only considered in predicting the reflection ratio against the vertical barrier and energy losses due to vortex shedding from the lower edge of plate are taken into account. A new relationship to relate the near-bed concentration to the depth-mean concentration is presented by analyzing the vertical structure of concentration. The numerical solutions were also compared with experimental data on morphological changes within a rectangular harbor of constant water depth. Through the numerical experiments, the vortex-induced flow appears to be not ignorable in predicting the morphological changes although the immersion depth of a plate is not deep.
In this paper, numerical scattering analysis for submerged scatterers is performed using finite and infinite elements. Unbounded domain is truncated into finite domain and finite elements are used in the domain. Infinite elements, So called Infinite Wave Envelope Elements (IWEE) which possess wave-like behavior, are used to take into account the infinite domain on the truncated boundary Scattering from rigid sphere is taken as an example and the effects of the order and mesh size of finite elements, size of finite element model and the order of IWEE are investigated. Quadratic finite element, refined mesh and higher order IWEE are recommended to improve the non-reflection boundary condition in the numerical scattering analysis.
The problem of interaction of surface water waves by small undulation at the bottom of a laterally unbounded sea is treated on the basis of linear water wave theory for both normal and oblique incidences. Perturbation analysis is employed to obtain the first order corrections to the reflection and transmission coefficients in terms of integrals involving the shape function c(x) representing the bottom undulation. Fourier transform method and residue theorem are applied to obtain these coefficients. As an example, a patch of sinusoidal ripples is considered in both the cases as the shape function. The principal conclusion is that the reflection coefficient is oscillatory in the ratio of twice the surface wave number to the wave number of the ripples. In particular, there is a Bragg resonance between the surface waves and the ripples, which is associated with high reflection of incident wave energy. The theoretical observations are validated computationally.
The present work investigates the wave generation and propagation in a 2-D wave flume to assess the effect of wave reflection for varying beach slopes by using a numerical tool based on computational fluid dynamics. At first, a numerical wave flume (NWF) is created with different mesh sizes to select the optimum mesh size for time efficient simulation. In addition, different beach slope conditions are introduced such as 1:3, 1:5 and numerical beach at the far end of the NWF to optimize the wave reflection solutions. In addition, several parameters are analysed in order to optimize the solutions. The developed numerical model and its key findings are compared with analytical and experimental surface elevation results and it reveals a good correlation. Finally, the recommended numerical solutions are validated with the experimental findings.

An efficient spline boundary element scheme is newly developed for water wave scattering of an incident wave train on a submerged breakwater. Validation of the present scheme is accomplished through the numerical experiments for various cases, by comparing the numerical results with theories vailable in the literature. Very accurate reflection and transmission coefficients for thin horizontal breakwater are obtained. It is observed that the reflection coefficient for the rectangular breakwater is significantly affected by the thickness. Horizontal and vertical forces on the breakwater for various thicknesses were also investigated.
Since a bubble in water is a highly nonlinear acoustic scatterer, the acoustic scattered waves from underwater bubbles show highly nonlinear acoustic properties. These acoustic scattered waves can be observed at the second or higher harmonics as well as at the fundamental primary frequency of incident acoustic wave. When two primary acoustic waves of different frequencies are incident on a bubble, the acoustic scattered waves can be also observed at the sum and the difference frequencies of the primary waves. In this study, when the two primary acoustic waves were incident on a bubble screen in water, we observed that the amplitude of difference frequency wave was amplified by the bubble nonlinearity and its directivity was oriented in the propagation directions of primary waves. The directivity of scattered difference frequency wave was analyzed as a coherent scattering for virtual source by using the directivity of the primary acoustic wave.
Large offshore structure are to be considered for oil storage facilities , marine terminals, power plants, offshore airports, industrial complexes and recreational facilities. Some of them have already been constructed. Some of the envisioned structures will be of the artificial-island type, in which the bulk of structures may act as significant barriers to normal waves and the prediction of the wave intensity will be of importance for design of structure. The present study deals wave scattering problem combining reflection and diffraction of waves due to the shape of the impermeable rigid upright structure, subject to the excitation of a plane simple harmonic wave coming from infinity. In this study, a finite difference technique for the numerical solution is applied to the boundary integral equation obtained for wave potential. The numerical solution is verified with the analytic solution. The model is applied to various structures, such as the detached breakwater (3L${\times}$0.1L), bird-type breakwater(318L${\times}$0.17L), cylinder-type and crescent -type structure (2.89L${\times}$0.6L, 0.8L${\times}$0.26L).The result are presented in wave height amplification factors and wave height diagram. Also, the amplification factors across the structure or 1 or 2 wavelengths away from the structure are compared with each given case. From the numerical simulation for the various boundary types of structure, we could figure out the transformation pattern of waves and predict the waves and predict the wave intensity in the vicinity of large artificial structures.

The water wave characteristics of Bragg reflections from a train of fixed floating pontoon breakwaters was studied numerically. A numerical model of boundary discretization type was developed to calculate the wave field. The model was verified by comparing to analytical data in literature and good agreements were achieved. Series of parametric studies were conducted systematically to investigate the dependence of the reflected coefficients by the Bragg scattering on the design variables, including the spacing between the breakwaters, the total number of installed breakwaters, the draft and width do the breakwater, and wave length. Certain wave characteristics of the Bragg reflections were observed and discussed in details which might be of help for practical engineering applications in shoreline protection from incident waves.
The acoustical scattering characteristics of a target are influenced by the material properties and structural characteristics of the target, which are critical information for acoustic detection and identification of underwater target. In particular, for thin elastic target, unique scattered signals are generated around the target by the Lamb wave. In this paper, the results of scattered signal measurement of aluminum spherical shell in the water tank using the stepped frequency sweep sine signal are presented. In particular, the scattering of the water-filled aluminum spherical shell is compared with that of the air-filled one both theoretically and experimentally. The difference of the scattered signals are analyzed using the pseudo Wigner-Ville distribution in terms of average frequency, frequency distribution, and energy of the scattered signal. The result shows that all observed parameters increased when the aluminum sphere was water-filled, and it is well matched to the theoretical expectation.

This paper presents Raman scattering of liquid water to obtain the characteristics with variation of temperature. Very clear Stokes-Raman signals were observed, which shows H-O vibration stretching and H-O-H vibration bending. The obtained spectrum were processed by FFT filter to extract the noise and base. The spectral shape of the H-O stretching provided a various sensitive signature which allowed temperature to be determined by a curve-fitting technique. Those are Maximum Intensity, Maximum Wave Length, FWHM(Full Width at Half Maximum), PMCR(Polymer Monomer Concentration Ratio) and TSIR(Temperature Sensitive Intensity Ratio). TSIR method shows the highest accuracy of $0.1^{\circ}C$ in mean error and $0.32^{\circ}C$ In maximum error.
