  • The fisheries industry is rapidly shifting from a traditional fishery to aquaculture paradigm and it faces various problems such as depletion of fishery resources and aging of fishing villages. We need the establishment of a fisheries big data platform that includes both the data of the central and surrounding industries of the fisheries industry for enhancement of establishment of a fisheries, 6th industrialization of fishing villages, establishment of related technical standards, and discovery of the new industries to overcome this. Data center agencies should collect, link, and pre-processing, and the platform organizer should create a water industry data virtuous circle through the establishment, operation, and data market of big data platforms to help overcome the current crisis, secure smart fisheries hegemony, and use it as a key to value transfer. Through this study, I would like to propose a policy and technical big data platform construction plan to successfully promote it.

  • Using the management strategy evaluation methods and data on the Korea chub mackerel Scomber japonicus where the state-space logistic production model is used as the operation and the estimation model respectivley, we examined the effects of both Dorn's rule, α and the buffer value for ABC (allowable biological catch), which are used by the Korea fishery managers for decision rules. We set scenarios that have different pairs of buffer and α values, which include those currently used in the management in Korea. Under each sceanario, we projected the fish population biomass until year 2050, during which ABC is determined in each year with the decision rule. We used three kinds of performance measures: (i) whether the biomass in 2050 is overfished; (ii) the average of annual yields over the simulation period; and (iii) the variability of annual yields over the period. We found that the current practice (buffer=0.9, and α = 0.05) resulted in the best performance in terms of avoiding the "overfished" status. However, the current practice failed to reach the maximum average of the annual yields and led to larger uncertainty in the annual yields.

  • It is well known that satellite synthetic aperture radar interferometry (InSAR) has been widely used for the observation of surface displacement owing to earthquakes, volcanoes, and subsidence very precisely. In wetlands where vegetation exists on the surface of the water, it is possible to create a water level change map with high spatial resolution over a wide area using the InSAR technique. Currently, a number of imaging radar satellites are in operation, and most of them support a ScanSAR mode observation to gather information over a large area at once. The Cienaga Grande de Santa Marta (CGSM) wetland, located in northern Colombia, is a vast wetland developed along the Caribbean coast. The CGSM wetlands face serious environmental threats from human activities such as reclamation for agricultural uses and residential purposes as well as natural causes such as sea level rise owing to climate change. Various restoration and protection plans have been conducted to conserve these invaluable environments in recognition of the ecological importance of the CGSM wetlands. Monitoring of water level changes in wetland is very important resources to understand the hydrologic characteristics and the in-situ water level gauge stations are usually utilized to measure the water level. Although it can provide very good temporal resolution of water level information, it is limited to fully understand flow pattern owing to its very coarse spatial resolution. In this study, we evaluate the L-band ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 ScanSAR mode to observe the water level change over the wide wetland area using the radar interferometric technique. In order to assess the quality of the interferometric product in the aspect of spatial resolution and coherence, we also utilized ALOS-2 PALSAR-2 stripmap high-resolution mode observations.

  • In order to investigate the effect of the methanogenic bacteria in bacteria in leachate on the degradability of landfill waste, this study has created 4 cylinder-shape PVC lysimeters (Diameter: 30cm, Height: 200cm, Volume: 140L) and for the biological treatment and recirculation of the leachate, two anaerobic batch reactors (Diameter: 20cm, Height: 30cm) were created. To simulate a conventional landfill, no recycling was done in L1. In L2, 1,068ml of leachate (twice of rainfall amount) was recycled. In L3 and L4, the leachate was anaerobically digested in a dark room (with $35{\pm}1^{\circ}C$) for a week and them recycled by 1,064ml and 2,128ml, respectively, with recycled water only. In terms of cumulative $CH_4$ production, however, L3 and L4 were much higher (three times) than L1 and L2. Between L3 and L4, the latter was 1.23 times higher than the former in terms of cumulative CH4 production. In other words, the more the methanogenic bacteria-activated leachate is recycled, the more active the degradation due to active methane fermentation by the recyled methanogenic bacteria. And methane recovery is different according to the amount of recycled the methanogenic bacteria in leachate.

  • Recently, the number of anaerobic digestion facility for livestock manure is on the rise in Korea. All of the livestock manure anaerobic digestion facilities in operation use pig manure slurry as a substrate for anaerobic digestion. Generally, pig manure slurry is composed of 97% water and 3% solids. The particulate matter, such as corn in the form of particles that is undigested by pig is contained in the pig manure slurry. Particulate matter is a factor reducing the effectiveness of biogas production in the anaerobic digestion process. In this study, mechanical grinding treatment was applied to analyze the effect of methane production from pig manure slurry by reducing the particle size of the slurry. On the other hand, the effect of the solid concentration levels on methane production and methane content of the biogas was analyzed. The fine particle concentration in the pig manure slurry was increased by the mechanical grinding treatment. And methane production and methane content of the biogas were higher in grinded pig manure slurry than untreated raw slurry.

  • Recently, it is increasing a amount of installed solar-cell rapidly, and end-of-life photovoltaic(ELP) modules are generated in according to the reduction of cell efficiency largely. Recycling of ELP modules are begun at an advanced nation already, but there are bring about environmental contamination and resource recovery problems owing to not treated ELP modules because of economic cost completely. First of all, there were researched basic study for treatment conditions of used solar cell inspection, dismantling of aluminum frame, crushing / grinding & separation of tempered glass, removal of back sheet & EVA film, leaching & precipitation recovery of valuable metals and treatment of waste water. Therefore, we establish optimum conditions through carried out of designed apparatus, installation of equipment, test operation & trouble shooting in scale of 1ton/day pilot plant test. Following to economic review, it does have the economic efficiency until to the case of tempered glass recovery, but does not have the economic value in case of total processes until to recover the valuable metals. However, there are guaranteed economic value if we are gained a large amount of the expenses through EPR supported system. It was confirmed the commercialized possibility of ELP modules recycling if there were established on the collecting ELP modules, reusing criteria, economical technology, enactment of directives and enforcement of EPR supported system efficiently.
