  • Ground anchor has been widely used specially for maintaining stability on reinforced cut slope in expressway. While the durability of the ground anchors should be ensured over the service life. However, the long-term loss of tensile force has occurred in most of field-installed anchors. Main causes are not clearly identified and very few studies have been made for analyzing long-term behavior of ground anchor in slopes. In this study, full-scale model tests and long-term measurements were made to obtain the load-displacement data and identified the causes of the long-term behaviors of ground anchor. As a result, the bond strength decreases exponentially with increasing water-binder ratio. Especially, groundwater is the most influencing factor to the bond strength. In the long-term behavior, the load decreases sharply until the initial settlement stabilized, and thereafter the tension force decreases constantly.

  • Weather is one of the main causes of aircraft accidents, and among the phenomena caused by weather, icing is a phenomenon in which an ice layer is formed when an object exposed to an atmosphere below a freezing temperature collides with supercooled water droplets. If this phenomenon occurs in the rotor blades, it causes defects such as severe vibration in the airframe and eventually leads to loss of control and an accident. Therefore, it is necessary to foresee the icing situation so that it can ascend and descend at an altitude without a freezing point. In this study, vibration data in normal and faulty conditions was acquired, data features were extracted, and vibration was predicted through deep learning-based algorithms such as CNN, LSTM, CNN-LSTM, Transformer, and TCN, and performance was compared to evaluate blade icing. A method for minimizing operating loss is suggested.

  • This research has developed the criteria and index for systematically and objectively assessing the quality of river water by fixing the various factors that affect Gyeongin ARA waterway's water quality through analysis with the Delphi Technique and analytic hierarchy program (AHP) Method. Based on the results, the highest criteria are, in order of importance, physical and environmental factors 28%, administrative factors 26%, natural fixed factors 26% and finally, cultural and social factors 20%. The three dimensions of the criteria show that for the internal physical and environmental factors, the most important are the loss of self-purification capacity, and the external factors are Gulpocheon and the sludge deposit due to Gyulhweon-weir the bridge. The facility factor in management was affected by the coagulation and waste water disposal facilities. The problem for the policy and institutional factors was seen in the regulatory area. The aquatic ecology/ point pollution source for the natural fixed factors show that it is due to the polluted water of Gulpo-cheon and the living environment/ non-point pollution source is shown through the inflow water from other rivers. Cultural and social factors show that the economical causes were due to the cargo and passenger flight operations and the external factors of having a lack of sewage treatment equipment have an importance effect. In order to estimate the order of priority through logical evidence and objectivity, future research must be continued on the evaluation indexes to measure the specific methodology and technique needed to improve the Gyeongin ARA Waterway.

  • Structural monitoring is the most important part of the construction and operation of the embankment dams. Appropriate instruments selection for dams is vital, as inappropriate selection causes irreparable loss in critical condition. Due to the lack of a systematic approach to determine adequate instruments, a framework based on three comparable Multi-Attribute Decision Making (MADM) methods, which are VIKOR, technique of order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) and Preference ranking organization method for enrichment evaluation (PROMETHEE), has been developed. MADM techniques have been widely used for optimizing priorities and determination of the most suitable alternatives. However, the results of the different methods of MADM have indicated inconsistency in ranking alternatives due to closeness of judgements from decision makers. In this study, 9 criteria and 42 geotechnical instruments have been applied. A new method has been developed to determine the decision makers' importance weights and an aggregation method has been introduced to optimally select the most suitable instruments. Consequently, the outcomes of the aggregation ranking correlate about 94% with TOPSIS and VIKOR, and 83% with PROMETHEE methods' results providing remarkably appropriate prioritisation of instruments for embankment dams.

  • The rapid growth of UnderWater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UW-ASNs) has led researchers to enhance underwater MAC protocols against limitations existing in underwater environment. We propose the customized robust real-time packet inspection mechanism with addressing the problem of the search for the data packet loss and network performance quality analysis in UW-ASNs, and describe our experiences using this approach. The goal of this work is to provide a framework to assess the network real-time performance quality. We propose a customized and adaptive mechanism to detect, monitor and analyze the data packets according to the MAC protocol standards in UW-ASNs. The packet analyzing method and software we propose is easy to implement, maintain, update and enhance. We take input stream as real data packets from sniffer node in capture mode and perform fully analysis. We were interested in developing software and hardware designed tool with the same capabilities which almost all terrestrial network packet sniffers have. Experimental results confirm that the best way to achieve maximum performance requires the most adaptive algorithm. In this paper, we present and offer the proposed packet analyzer, which can be effectively used for implementing underwater MAC protocols.

  • Monitoring is the most important part of the construction and operation of the embankment dams. Applied instruments in these dams should be determined based on dam requirements and specifications. Instruments selection considered as one of the most important steps of monitoring plan. Competent instruments selection for dams is very important, as inappropriate selection causes irreparable loss in critical condition. Lack of a systematic method for determining instruments has been considered as a problem for creating an efficient selection. Nowadays, decision making methods have been used widely in different sciences for optimal determination and selection. In this study, the Multi-Attribute Decision Making is applied by considering 9 criteria and categorisation of 8 groups of geotechnical instruments. Therefore, the Analytic Hierarchy Process and Multi-Criteria Optimisation and Compromise Solution methods are employed in order to determine the attributes' importance weights and to prioritise of instruments for embankment dams, respectively. This framework was applied for a rock fill with clay core dam. The results indicated that group decision making optimizes the selection and prioritisation of monitoring instruments for embankment dams, and selected instruments are reliable based on the dam specifications.

  • The agricultural development of Korea has occurred at the expense of natural resources and environmental quality, and, today, one of the most urgent problem in the practices of intensive livestock farming is disposing of the animal wastewater. As a result, soil and water degradation and other environmental deterioration become apparent and they cause long-term loss in agricultural production. This paper attempted to summarize the environmental problems associated with agricultural activities, and to get some implications to minimize agricultural environment problems. It is proposed that sustainable agricultural is one of desirable directions for future Korean agriculture. The goal of the sustainable agricultural effort is to utilize the potential environmental quality problem. Agricultural operations may be more dependent upon the production practices and waste management techniques utilized by farmers than the size of the operation, the number of animal fed, or amount of waste involved. Also low-input farming technology can be suggested one of them, and disposing system of agricultural residues and animal waste should be developed with intensive concerns and financial supports.

  • Tests are conducted according to the ISO TS 16774, Part 3 standard for quality management of leakage repair materials used in cracks in underground concrete structures. These test methods are performed indirectly using a nonwoven fabric on a chalet containing leak repair materials. However, it is considered that it is appropriate to verify the resistance of the repair material, which is required to be applied directly to the cracks in the actual field and to exhibit the resistance of the flow velocity. In this study, mass change was measured by using nonwoven fabric and nonwoven fabric. As a result, both methods showed an increase in mass, which indicated that the maintenance material itself contained a large amount of water, and that the mass change occurred depending on the drying state. Also, depending on the use of nonwoven fabric, the error due to the indirect test could not be ruled out. Therefore, further verification is needed, and it is considered that the test for change of mass reduction measurement is necessary according to the drying time of other types of the same series.

  • Most streams in Korea have been managed mainly for the control of flood or usages of the water for agriculture, industry, and others, resulting in the loss of their natural characteristics. In recent years, ecological system and function of streams are recognized as very important, and a paradigm change in their management is prevailing. This study, first, analyzed recent stream restoration policies and projects and derived major restoration planning factors; second, evaluated relative importance and priority of the factors using AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) method. The derived planning factors were four factors for the level 1, and sixteen factors for the level 2. Relative importance and priority of each factor were calculated, and finally, a composite relative importance and priority of all the factors were suggested. These findings are hoped to support stream restoration policies and be used in drafting restoration guidelines.
