  • Speech recognition performance is degraded by the variation in vocal tract length among speakers. In this paper, we have used a vocal tract length normalization method wherein the frequency axis of the short-time spectrum associated with a speaker's speech is scaled to minimize the effects of speaker's vocal tract length on the speech recognition performance In order to normalize vocal tract length, we tried several frequency warping functions such as linear and piece-wise linear function. Variable interval piece-wise linear warping function is proposed to effectively model the variation of frequency axis scale due to the large variation of vocal tract length. Experimental results on TIDIGITS connected digits showed the dramatic reduction of word error rates from 2.15% to 0.53% by the proposed vocal tract normalization.

  • Time series are comprehensively appeared and developed in many applications, ranging from science and technology to business and entertainrilent. Similarity search under time warping has attracted much interest between the time series in the large sequence databases. DTW (Dynamic Time Warping) is a robust distance measure and is superior to Euclidean distance for time series, allowing similarity matching although one of the sequences can elastic shift along the time axis. Nevertheless, it is more unfortunate that DTW has a quadratic time. Simultaneously the false dismissals are come forth since DTW distance does not satisfy the triangular inequality. In this paper, we propose an efficient range query algorithmbased on a new similarity search method under time warping. When our range query applies for this method, it can remove the significant non-qualify time series as early as possible before computing the accuracy DTW distance. Hence, it speeds up the calculation time and reduces the number of scanning the time series. Guaranteeing no false dismissals, the lower bounding function is advised that consistently underestimate the DTW distance and satisfy the triangular inequality. Through the experimental result, our range query algorithm outperforms the existing others.

  • The torsion problem in a cylindrical rod is usually formulated in terms of either the warping function or the Prandtl stress function. In a rod whose cross-section is bounded by circles and rectangles, we develop an analytic solution approach based on the warping function, which satisfies Laplace's equation. The present formulation employs polynomials and The Fourier series-type solutions, both of which satisfy exactly the governing differential equation. Using the present method, the maximum shear stress and torsional rigidity are efficiently and accurately calculated and the present results are compared with those by other methods. The specific numerical examples include the case with eccentric holes which was investigated earlier. The finite element results are also compared with the present results.

  • In this paper, we consider the existence of nonconstant warping functions on a warped product manifold M = B × f2 F, where B is a q(> 2)-dimensional base manifold with a nonconstant scalar curvature SB(x) and F is a 3- dimensional fiber Einstein manifold and discuss that the resulting warped product manifold is an Einstein manifold, using the existence of the solution of some partial differential equation.

  • This paper discusses an effective processing of similarity search that supports time warping in large sequence database. Time warping enables finding sequences with similar patterns even when they are of different length, Previous methods fail to employ multi-dimensional indexes without false dismissal since the time warping distance does not satisfy the triangular inequality. They have to scan all the database, thus suffer from serious performance degradation in large database. Another method that hires the suffix tree also shows poor performance due to the large tree size. In this paper we propose a new novel method for similarity search that supports time warping Our primary goal is to innovate on search performance in large database without false dismissal. to attain this goal ,we devise a new distance function $D_{tw-Ib}$ consistently underestimates the time warping distance and also satisfies the triangular inequality, $D_{tw-Ib}$ uses a 4-tuple feature vector extracted from each sequence and is invariant to time warping, For efficient processing, we employ a distance function, We prove that our method does not incur false dismissal. To verify the superiority of our method, we perform extensive experiments . The results reveal that our method achieves significant speedup up to 43 times with real-world S&P 500 stock data and up to 720 times with very large synthetic data.

  • Accurate estimation of shear flows in thin-walled beam section is the key issue to evaluate shear stress distribution of ship hull transverse section under the shear forces acting on hull girder. It is regarded that the method using the warping functions obtained by finite element formulation is the state of the art of this field. Recently, however, IACS took effect the new version of CSR in which direct calculation process of shear flow was suggested. In the direct calculation process, shear flow of ship hull section can be obtained by the addition of determinate and indeterminate shear flows calculated respectively. So, in this paper, the shear flow evaluation codes based on the process proposed by IACS CSR and warping function based method were developed respectively. The calculated results of shear flows for the several examples of ship sections were compared with each other and considered in detail.

  • A study of the bending-extension-transverse shear coupled random response of the composite beams with thin-walled open sections subjected to various types of concentrated and distributed random excitations is dealt with in this paper. First of all, equations of motion of thin-walled composite H-type cross-section beams incorporating a number of nonclassical effects of transverse shear and primary and secondary warping, and anisotropy of constituent materials are derived. On the basis of derived equations of motion, analytical expressions for the displacement response of the composite beams are derived by using normal mode method combined with frequency response function method.
