Rearing is important to the growth and development of the child. Traditionally, nurturing is a maternal role which is expressive role. Maternal role was composed of mothering and maternicity. Rearing is a key concept of psychology, education and sociology discipline. Knowledge of the rearing is an essential component for the development of nursing as a science and a profession. The first thing to study a concept is thought to be a concept analysis. So, in this study, concept analysis of the rearing was performed to clarify a concept of the rearing as a basis for the study of rearing afterward. The approach used for the concept analysis was the approach presented by Walker and Avant (1993). The defining attributes of rearing, identified in this study were (1) a series of caring activities in parent-child relation, (2) an essential of the growth and development of a child, (3) changeable according to time, place and object, (4) effort is necessary to the rearing, (5) positive or negative aspects (6) attitude, behavior, environment is sub-concepts of the rearing concept. The identified antecedents of the rearing was child-birth. The identified consequences of rearing were desirable or undesirable outcomes. Desirable outcome was the emotional satisfaction and growth in parent-child relation. Undesirable outcome was the emotional disorder and social maladaptation of the child. The empirical referents of the rearing could be the caring phenomena in parent-child relation.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the concept of deconditioning within the field of nursing allied health sciences. Method: The concept analysis method described by Walker and Avant(1995) was used. Critical attributes, antecedents, consequences, and empirical referents were identified. Also model, borderline, contrary and related cases were proposed. Results: The definition of concept 'deconditioning' was a decrease in the function of general system that occured after long periods of immobility and might be marked by frail upon return to normal conditions. The attributes of deconditioning were as follows; 1) the deconditioning was caused by lengthening of physical inactivity; 2) the deconditioning state was resulted by respiratory system, cardiovascular system, musculoskeletal system, hematologic system and generalized manifestation; 3) the deconditioning state could be reconditioned. 4) The reinforced functions by exercise could be compromised by physical inactivity. Conclusion: Deconditioning is important concept in nursing practice since it occurs commonly in any patients who lack physical activity for long time and affects many aspects of clinical outcomes, but it could be reversible by nurses' efforts.
In order to help the theory development for "women health", and to apply to the women client care, the concept analysis of "women health" was done. According to the concept analysis method by Walker & Avant, the characters of concept "women health" were analyzed from literature. The results were as followings : first, it emphasizes reproductive focused health care(childbirth-oriented) and normal development process regarded as abnormal. Second, it is affected by cultual environment. Third, it is related with sex. Forth, it considers the human, feminine and maternal aspects. Fifth, it need woman-centered nursing approach to promote woman's quality of life. Sixth, it stresses not only wholistic human health promotion but also the harmony between human and environment. Seventh, it is needed to be considered woman's various experiences as important and it approaches phenomenogically and interdisciplinary. Eighth, it needed to understands person-situation interactional aspect. Ninth, it can promote the adaptation power to surrounding environment. Above results can elucidate the concept of "women health", and will be a basis of theory development of "women health" In practical nursing, these results will be a basis for the promotion of women health and for the increase of life quality.
In general. social cognition for a disabled person seemed that he was limited aspects of emotion and psychology. Thus he was rejected. avoided. worthless and not accepted. People who have been raised in an ethnic collectivity often acquire from that experience not only basic conceps and attitudes toward health and illness but also fundamental styles of interpersonal behavior and concerns about the world. The effects of this enculuration carryover into health- care situation and also become an important influence on personal activities devoted to health maintenance and disease prevention. Our Korean culture is a state of tradition Confucianism. respects his honor and external feature. Therefore recognition of a disabled person is more specipic. This study uses Walker and Avant's process of concept analysis. The concep of recognition of disabilty can be defined as follows : Recognition of disability is a person's conscious process of sensation. perception. memory and thought and is constructed from value. attitude. emotion and expierince which is dynamics. and in everyday life is feeling that basic activity is not free and occurs interaction of envionment. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore ways to define the concept of health inequality. Methods: The concept analysis process by Walker and Avant was used to clarify the meaning of health inequality. Results: Defining attributes of health inequality included differences in health status between individuals or groups, infringement of fundamental rights to health, unfair use of medical services, and social discrimination. The antecedents of health inequality included differences in demographic characteristics (age, gender, education, occupation, residential location), limitations in accessibility to health care, and social exclusion. Consequences of health inequality were increased costs for medical care, decreased health-related quality of life, and lack of ability to cope with health problems resulting in crisis situations, increases in morbidity and mortality, and shortening of life span. The concept was clarified through presentation of model, borderline, related, and contrary cases. Conclusion: Results of this study can be used to guide the direction of future studies through concept analysis in which conceptual attributes in the context of health inequality are examined. Also, based on the result of this study, development of standardized tools to measure health inequality is recommended as well as development of educational programs to reduce health inequalities.
Purpose: Cardiac arrest has multiple characteristics that need to be approached as an integrated method according to the various changes in the body system. This study was performed to develop a useful guideline for early detection of cardiac arrest by revealing the attributes of cardiac arrest through a concept analysis. Methods: This study was conducted according to the Walker and Avant's concept analysis method. Systematic literature review and in-depth interview with nurses who experienced cardiac arrest situation were conducted. Based on the literature reviews and in-depth interviews with nurses, the attributes and the empirical referents of the concept of cardiac arrest were elicited. Results: The definable attributes of cardiac arrest were 1) loss of consciousness, 2) abnormal respiratory condition, 3) abnormal cardiovascular signs. Cardiac arrest was found to occur by several antecedents such as cardiac problem, non-cardiac problem, or general problem, whereas ischemia and re-perfusion injury, which can lead to multiple organ failure and death, were derived as consequences. Conclusion: In this study, the concept analysis eliciting attributes and empirical referents is found to be useful as a guideline for understanding and managing cardiac arrest. Based on these findings, clinical providers are expected to make a precise and rapid decision on cardiac arrest and respond quickly, which may increase survival rate of the patients underwent the arrest event.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the concept of self-care in elders with dementia through a review of nursing literature and to provide more understanding of the definition and perspectives of the concept of self-care notion in elders with dementia. Methods: The technique developed by Walker and Avant was used as a guide in analyzing the concept of self-care. Results: Attributes of self-care in dementia may include a single or group of actions needed for sustaining life, a personal effort to maintain functional independence while minimizing other's assistance, an outcome behavior from the person's interaction with inter-personal and/or contextual environment, and a functional ability that may decline in parallel to cognitive impairment. Antecedents of self-care in dementia may include at least presence of a certain degree of cognitive appraisal for the self-care needs, self-willingness for the self-care action, spatial and visual orientation, cultural pre-conception of the self-care behavior, presence of environmental context/equipment available for self-care, and sufficient time available. The consequences may include sustaining of life, feel of satisfaction, achieving independence, extended life expectancy, increased self-confidence, decreased caregiver distress and/or burden, savings in health care costs. Discussion: Defining attributes and antecedents and consequences of self-care in dementia identified in this study provided empirical ground of a middle-range theory of self-care for a clinical population with dementia and generated possible hypotheses to be tested in future studies.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of post-intensive care syndrome. Methods: The study was conducted in accordance with Walker and Avant's conceptual analysis process. We searched the Medline, ProQuest, Google scholar, NANET (Korean National Assembly Library), and RISS (Korean Education and Research Information Service) databases resulting in 29 studies for in-depth review. Results: The attributes of post-intensive care syndrome include (1) new or worsening impairment persisting after discharge, (2) physical impairment, (3) psychological impairment, (4) cognitive impairment, and (5) symptom experience. The antecedents of the concept include a critical condition that requires intensive care, stressful events, immobility, sedation, delirium, insomnia, frailty, and invasive procedures. The consequences of post-intensive care syndrome are increased dependency in activities of daily life, decreased social interaction, delayed return to previous occupation, decreased quality of life, familial post-intensive care syndrome, and readmission/death. Conclusion: The concept of post-intensive care syndrome has multifaceted and integrative features. Further research needs to be conducted to develop a measurement tool that reflects the attributes of the concept and to develop multidisciplinary interventions to prevent post-intensive care syndrome.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the attributes of the concept, of psychological resistance to antihypertensive medication. Methods: The study was conducted in accordance with Walker and Avant's conceptual analysis process. We reviewed 47 related studies selected from 4 international and Korean databases including Medline, CINAHL, NDSL, and RISS to perform the analytical processes from January 1980 to September 2015. Results: The attributes of psychological resistance to antihypertensive medication include 1) reservation, 2) opposition, 3) denial, 4) refusal, and 5) seeking alternative therapy. The antecedents of the concept can be classified into patient factors such as reactance trait and knowledge deficit, provider factors, interpersonal factors, and environmental factors. The consequences of psychological resistance to antihypertensive medication are non-compliance, deterioration of the disease, developing complications, increased anxiety, and changes in life. Conclusions: The concept of psycho logical resistance to antihypertensive medication can provide guidance for the development of an intervention program that promotes the compliance to medication regimen of hypertensive patients. Further research needs to be done to develop a measurement tool for psychological resistance to antihypertensive medication.
