We consider a particle walking on the nonnegative integers and each unit of time it makes, given it is at site k, either a jump of size m distance units to the right with probability $p_{k}$ or it goes back (falls down) to its starting point 0, a retaining barrier, with probability $v_{k}\;=\;1\;-\;p_{k}$. This is a Markov chain on the integers $mZ^{+}$. We show that if $v_{k}$ has a nonzero limit, then the Markov chain is positive recurrent. However, if $v_{k}$ speeds to 0, then we may get transient Markov chain. A critical speeding rate to zero is identified to get transience, null recurrence, and positive recurrence. Another type of random walk on $Z^{+}$ is considered in which a particle moves m distance units to the right or 1 distance unit to left with probabilities $p_{k}\;and\;q_{k}\;=\;1\;-\;p_{k}$, respectively. A necessary condition to having a stationary distribution and positive recurrence is obtained.

This paper proposes an improved scheme of pedestrian position information system using neural network theory in a GPS-disabled area. Through a learning/obtaining gait pattern and step distance about walk, run, duck walk, crab walk and crawl, the position estimation error could be minimized by rejecting the inertial navigation drift. A portable hardware module was implemented to evaluate the performance of the proposed system. The performance and effectiveness of the suggested algorithm was verified by experiments indoors.

The vibration of washing machine at spinning cycle is important problem that affects the performance of a product. In this raper, the inner structure of the washing machine is modeled as a rigid body suspension system and transfer farce caused by rotating unbalance mass is obtained using Newton's the 2nd law. and this model is used to predict the verge of walking instability during the spinning cycle. The walk of the drum washing machine is suggested by calculating the force transmissibility between drum and the cabinet. As calculating the resultant force exerted for cabinet, the friction coefficient of the pad is suggested to avoid the walk. In addition, relation between translational slip and rotational slip is derived and method to avoid the rotational slip is introduced.
We present the results of a time series analysis of the long-term radio lightcurves of four blazars: 3C 279, 3C 345, 3C 446, and BL Lacertae. We exploit the data base of the University of Michigan Radio Astronomy Observatory (UMRAO) monitoring program which provides densely sampled lightcurves spanning 32 years in time in three frequency bands located at 4.8, 8, and 14.5,GHz. Our sources show mostly flat or inverted (spectral indices -0.5 < alpha < 0) spectra, in agreement with optically thick emission. All lightcurves show strong variability on all time scales. Analyzing the time lags between the lightcurves from different frequency bands, we find that we can distinguish high-peaking flares and low-peaking flares in accord with the classification of Valtaoja et al. (1992). The periodograms (temporal power spectra) of the observed lightcurves are consistent with random-walk powerlaw noise without any indication of (quasi-)periodic variability. The fact that all four sources studied are in agreement with being random-walk noise emitters at radio wavelengths suggests that such behavior is a general property of blazars.

Distance based mobility management schemes have been considered as a major issue in the wireless network research area. Accordingly, many efforts have been made to analyze them numerically with suitable mobility models. In particular, bidirectional random walk model has been employed frequently due to its simplicity. Nevertheless, the exact equations are not presented so far. In this paper, we provide the exact equations regarding the bidirectional random walk model, which is very useful for the analysis of the distance based mobility management schemes.

Unsteady behavior of the early wake in the viscous flow field past an impulsively started semicircular cylinder is studied numerically. In this paper, we propose the hybrid diffusion scheme to simulate dynamic characteristics of wake such as a fishtail-like flapping and an alternate vortex-shedding more accurately. This diffusion scheme based on particle strength exchange is mixed with the stochastic nature of random walk method. Also, the viscous splitting algorithm which calculates convective and diffusion terms successively is applied in order to handle random walk method effectively. Consequently, the early behavior of wake due to the breakdown of symmetrical vortici balance is more practically simulated with the vortex particle method.

Oxygen consumption, pulmonary ventilation, heart rate, and breathing frequency were measured on 8 men walking on a treadmill carrying load of 9 kg on hand, back, or head. Besides measurements were made on subjects carrying loads of 2.6 kg each on both feet. The speed of level walking was 4, 5, and 5.5km/hr and a fixed speed off km/hr with grades of 0, 3, 6, and 9%. Comparisons were made between free walking without load and walking with various types of loads. The following results were obtained. 1. In level or uphill walking the changes in oxygen consumption, pulmonary ventilation, breathing frequency and heart rate were smallest in back load walking, and largest in hand load walking. The method of back load was most efficient and hand load was the least efficient. The energy cost in head load walking was smaller than that of in hand load walking. It was assumed that foot load costed more energy than hand load. 2. In level walking the measured parameters increased abruptly at the speed of 5.5 km/hr. Oxygen consumption in a free walking at 4 km/hr was 11.4ml/kg b.wt., and 13.1 ml/kg b.wt. 5.5 km/hr, and in a hand load walking at 4 km/hr was 13.9, and 18.8 ml/kg b. wt. at 5.5 km/hr. 3. In uphill walking oxygen consumption and other parameters increased abruptly at the grade of 6%. Oxygen consumption at 4 km/hr and 0% grade was 11.4 ml/kg b. wt., 13.6 at 6% grade, and 16.21/kg b. wt. at 9% grade in a free walking. In back load walking oxygen consumption at 4km/hr and 0% grade was 12.3 ml/kg b.wt.,14.9 at 6% grade, and 18.7 ml/kg b.wt. In hand load walking the oxygen consumption was the greatest, namely, 13.9 at 0% grade, 17.9 at 6%, and 20.0 ml/kg b. wt. at 9% grade. 4. Both in level and uphill walking the changes in pulmonary ventilation and heart rate paralleled with oxygen consumption. 5. The changes in heart rate and breathing frequency in hand load were characteristic. Both in level and uphill walk breathing frequency increased to 30 per minute when a load was held on hand and showed a small increase as the exercise became severe. In the other method of load carrying the Peak value of breathing frequency was less than 30 Per minute. Heart rate showed 106 beats/minute even at a speed of 4 km/hr when a load was held on hand, whereas, heart rate was between, 53 and 100 beats/minute in the other types of load carriage. 6. Number of strides per minute in level walking increased as the speed increased. At the speed floater than 5 km/hr number of strides per minute of load carrying walk was greater than that of free walking. In uphill walk number of strides per minute decreased as the grade increased. Number of strides in hand load walk was greatest and back load walk showed the same number of strides as the free walk.
Random Walk Model can predict the sediment areas of debris flow but it must be extracted three parameters fitted topographical environment. This study developed the method to extract the optimal values of three parameters - Once flowing volume, Stopping slope and Gravity weight - for Random Walk Model. And the extracted parameters were validated by aerial photographs of the debris flowed area. To extract the optimal parameters was randomly performed, limiting the range values of three parameters and developing an accuracy decision method that is called the rate of concordance. The set of the optimal parameters was decided on highest the rate of concordance and a consistency. As a result, the optimal parameters in Bonghwa county were showed that the once flowing volume is $1.0m^3$, the stopping slope is $4.2^{\circ}$ and the gravity weight is 2 when the rate of concordance is -0.2. The validating result of the optimal parameters showed closely that the rate of concordance is average -0.2.
