  • In this study, we empirically investigate the relations between trading volumes and our proxies for information flows and differences of opnion. Econometric methods to analyze the relations in the equity and KOSPI 200 futures markets include Generalized Method of Moment(GMM) and Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity(GARCH) models. Major findings from our empirical analyses are summarized as follows; (i) Trading volume in both the equity and KOSPI 200 futures markets varies positively with proxies for information flows. We find that trading volumes in both markets are closely related to firm-specific information rather than market-wide information. (ii) Trading volumes in the equity and KOSPI 200 futures market have positive relations with our proxies for differences of opinion. (iii) Day-of-the-week effect is clear in both markets. Trading volumes in both the equity and KOSPI 200 futures markets tend to be relatively low early and late in the week. (IV) Futures contract life-cycle effect is clear. In other words, futures trading volume increses in the period around contract expiration. (V) In addition, ARCH effect on trading volumes is reported significant enough to take into account. The disturbance of trading volumes in both markets seem to be conditional heteroscedastic.

  • More efficient and effective volume management of trade cargo is recently requested due to FTA with foreign country. Above all, the grain is the main cargo needed in Korean food life and was appointed as the core trade cargo during FTA. This study is aimed to forecast future demands of grain volumes which are handled at Incheon port because most of the grain volumes are traded at Incheon port in Korea. System Dynamics (SD) was used for forecasting as the methodology. Also, population, yearly grain consumption per a man, GDP, GRDP, exchange rate, and BDI were used as the factors that influence grain volumes. Simulation duration was from 2000 to 2020 and real data was used from 2000 to 2007. According to the simulation, 2020's grain volumes at Incheon port were forecasted to be about 2 million tons and grain volumes handled at Incheon port were continuously reduced. In order to measure accuracy of the simulation, this study implemented MAPE analysis. And after the implementation, the simulation was decided as a much more accurate model because MAPE value was calculated to be 6.3%. This study respectively examined factors using the sensitivity analysis. As a result, in terms of the effects on grain volume in Incheon Port, the population factor is most significant and exchange rate factor is the least.

  • Objective: To determine the utility of computed tomography (CT) ventricular volumes and morphometric parameters for deciding the treatment strategy in children with a hypoplastic left ventricle (LV). Materials and Methods: Ninety-four consecutive children were included in this study and divided into small LV single ventricle repair (SVR) (n = 28), small LV biventricular repair (BVR) (n = 6), disease-matched control (n = 19), and control (n = 41) groups. The CT-based indexed LV volumes, LV-to-right-ventricular (LV/RV) volume ratio, left-to-right atrioventricular valve (AVV) area ratio, left-to-right AVV diameter ratio, and LV/RV long dimension ratio were compared between groups. Proportions of preferred SVR in the small LV SVR group suggested by the parameters were evaluated. Results: Indexed LV end-systolic (ES) and end-diastolic (ED) volumes in the small LV SVR group ($6.3{\pm}4.0mL/m^2$ and $14.4{\pm}10.2mL/m^2$, respectively) were significantly smaller than those in the disease-matched control group ($16.0{\pm}4.7mL/m^2$ and $37.7{\pm}12.0mL/m^2$, respectively; p < 0.001) and the control group ($16.0{\pm}5.5mL/m^2$ and $46.3{\pm}10.8mL/m^2$, respectively; p < 0.001). These volumes were $8.3{\pm}2.4mL/m^2$ and $21.4{\pm}5.3mL/m^2$, respectively, in the small LV BVR group. ES and ED indexed LV volumes of < $7mL/m^2$ and < $17mL/m^2$, LV/RV volume ratios of < 0.22 and < 0.25, AVV area ratios of < 0.33 and < 0.24, and AVV diameter ratios of < 0.52 and < 0.46, respectively, enabled the differentiation of a subset of patients in the small LV SVR group from those in the two control groups. One patient in the small LV biventricular group died after BVR, indicating that this patient might not have been a good candidate based on the suggested cut-off values. Conclusion: CT-based ventricular volumes and morphometric parameters can suggest cut-off values for SVR in children with a hypoplastic LV.

  • This study is to find out general problems a n.0, ppeared in the management and utilization of these and dissertation and to suggest some recommendations, through the survey and analysis on the Korean university libraries. Questionnaires were sent to 109 university libraries which offer master's and doctoral degrees, during the period between March 7 and March 27, 1995. Responded questionnaires of 91 libraries (about 83%) were processed using SAS. The results of this survey can be summarized as follows: 1. Most of Korean university libraries have the collections of theses and dissertations ranging from less than 10,000 volumes (27 libraries ; 32.1%) ; 10,000 to 30,000 volumes (20 libraries ; 25.0%) ; to more than 80,000 volumes (16 libraries ; 19.0%). The largest collection was around 200,000 volumes. 2. In the management of them, 35 libraries (38.5%) were active in collecting them, but 56 libraries (61.5%) were not active, mainly for the shortage of manpower and the space problems. In 62.6% of libraries, they are arranged with the books. And 51.3% of libraries process them in less than one month. 46 libraries (52.9%) computerize their system, and among them 40 libraries (87%) establish their own databases. 3. The collections of theses and dissertations are called by various name, including periodical room, theses room, reference reading room etc. reaching to 15 kinds. 71 libraries (78.0%) adopt open system, and 17 libraries closed system ; and 2 libraries (3.2%) partial open system. 62 libraries (68.1%) arrange them in the order of call number, while 20 libraries (31.9%) by other criteria.

  • Extant research has proposed that the Object-Spatial-Verbal cognitive style can elucidate individual differences in the preference for modality-specific information. However, no studies have yet ascertained whether this type of information processing evinces structural correlations in the brain. Therefore, the current study used voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analyses to investigate individual differences in gray matter volumes based on the Object-Spatial-Verbal cognitive style. For this purpose, ninety healthy young adults were recruited to participate in the study. They were administered the Korean version of the Object-Spatial-Verbal cognitive style questionnaire, and their anatomical brain images were scanned. The VBM results demonstrated that the participants' verbal scores were positively correlated with regional gray matter volumes (rGMVs) in the right superior temporal sulcus/superior temporal gyrus, the bilateral parahippocampal gyrus/fusiform gyrus, and the left inferior temporal gyrus. In addition, the rGMVs in these regions were negatively correlated with the relative spatial preference scores obtained by individual participants. The findings of the investigation provide anatomical evidence that the verbal cognitive style could be decidedly relevant to higher-level language processing, but not to basic language processing.

  • This research addresses the problem of estimating Origin-Destination (O-D) trip matrices from link volume counts, a set of unobserved link volumes and information of user equilibrium flows in transportation networks. A heuristic algorithm for estimating unobserved link flows is derived, which provides volume estimates that are approximately consistent with both observed flows and an assumption of user equilibrium conditions. These estimated link volumes improve the constraints associated with the synthetic OD estimation model, providing improved solution search procedure. Model performance is tracked in terms of the root mean square errors (RMSE) in predicted travel demands, and where appropriate, predicted linked volumes. These results indicate that the new model substantially outperforms existing approaches to estimating user-equilibrium based synthetic O-D matrices.

  • The normal lung volumes were determined and subdivided under sitting position in 48 middle school girls, 49 high school girls and 44 house wives. All subjects were free of pulmonary and vascular diseases. The vital capacity was measured by Mckessons spirometer and the residual volume was determined by Rahn's three breathing method. 1. The lung volumes (BTPS) of middle school girls determined were: $RV\;0.59{\pm}0.11l\;FRC\;1.45{\pm}2.22l\;VC\;2.68{\pm}0.29l$ 2. The lung volumes (BTPS) of high school girls determined were: $RV\;0.83{\pm}0.19l\;FRC\;1.9{\pm}0.25l\;VC\;3.15{\pm}0.24l$ 3. The lung volumes (BTPS) of house wives determind were: $RV\;0.95{\pm}0.61{\ell}\;FRC\;2.1{\pm}0.25{\ell}\;VC\;3.06{\pm}0.29l$ 4. The calculated residual ratio $(RV/TLC{\times}100)$ were: $17.7{\pm}2.57%$ in middle school girls and $20.6{\pm}3.65%$ in high school girls and $24.0{\pm}2.31%$ in house wives 5. The functional residual ratio $(FRC/TLC{\times}100)$ were: $43.7{\pm}5.98%$ in middle school girls and $48.8{\pm}4.41%4 in high school girls and $52.6{\pm}5.38%$ in house wives. 6. The correlation coefficients between vital capacity and total lung capacity were r=0.96 in middle school girls and r=0.986 in high school girls and r=0.856 in house wives. 7. The regression equations were obtained follows: $TLC(l) =1.105{\times}VC+0.304$ (in middle school girls) $TLC(l) =1.551{\times}VC-0.902$ (in high school girls) $TLC(l) =0.999{\times}VC+0.954$ (in house wives)
