  • Wide-area monitoring of tree-related high impedance fault (THIF) efficiently contributes to increase reliability of large-scaled network, since the failure to early location of them may results in critical lines tripping and consequently large blackouts. In the first place, this wide-area monitoring of THIF requires managing the placement of sensors across large power grid network according to THIF detection objective. For this purpose, current paper presents a framework in which sensors are distributed according to a predetermined risk map. The proposed risk map determines the possibility of THIF occurrence on every branch in a power network, based on electrical conductivity of trees and their positions to power lines which extracted from spectral data. The obtained possibility value can be considered as a weight coefficient assigned to each branch in sensor placement problem. The next step after sensors deployment is to on-line monitor based on moving data window. In this on-line process, the received data window is evaluated for obtaining a correlation between low frequency and high frequency components of signal. If obtained correlation follows a specified pattern, received signal is considered as a THIF. Thereafter, if several faulted section candidates are found by deployed sensors, the most likely location is chosen from the list of candidates based on predetermined THIF risk map.

  • In this paper, we propose $256{\times}256$ pixel array fingerprint sensor with an advanced circuits for detecting. The pixel level simple detection circuit converts from a small and variable sensing current to binary voltage out effectively. We minimizes an electrostatic discharge(ESD) influence by applying an effective isolation structure around the unit pixel. The sensor circuit blocks were designed and simulated in standard CMOS $0.35{\mu}m$ process. Full custom layout is performed in the unit sensor pixel and auto placement and routing is performed in the full chip.

  • In order to increase reliability and reduce system cost, this paper studies particularly applicable method for sensorless PM BLDCM drive system. The waveform of the motor internal voltages(or back emf) contains a fundamental and higher order frequency harmonics. Therefore the third harmonic component is extracted from the stator phase voltage. The resulting third harmonic signal keeps a constant phase relationship with the rotor flux for any motor speed and load condition, and is practically free of noise that can be introduced by the inverter switching, making this a robust sensing method. In addition, a simple starting method and a speed estimation approach are also proposed. Some experimental results are Provided to demonstrate the validity of the proposed control method.

  • In a voltage source inverter, the dead time is necessary to prevent short circuits in the dc link. The dead time effect appears as a distortion of output voltages and currents. In recent years, the dead time compensation methods have been investigated in many literatures. This paper presents not the dead time compensation by sensing and calculation but the dead time elimination. The proposed inverter system doesn't need to sense load current and to calculate dead time. Adding some transformers to each leg, dead times in the inverter system are eliminated automatically. The proposed method is analyzed on each mode and verified through simulation results.

  • The influence of water molecule on the electrical properties of single-walled carbon nanotube field effect transistors (SWNT-FETs) was reported. Conductance suppression was observed with the increase of the humidity. This can be explained by doping of the SWNT-FETs, which has p-type semiconductor characteristic, with the water molecules acting as an electron donor. However, after 65 % of humidity, conductance of the SWNT-FETs started to increase again, due to the opening of electron channels. Upon annealing at $400^{\circ}C$ in Ar atmosphere, conductance increases more than 500 %, and the threshold voltage shifts toward further positive gate voltages. The results of this experiment support possible application of single-walled carbon nanotubes for humidity sensing material.

  • A thick 25 ${\mu}m$ thickness poled P(VDF/TrFE) film pyroelectric infrared ray sensor has been fabricated and then thin 1.6 ${\mu}m$ thickness P(VDF/TrFE) film pyroelectric infrared ray sensor has been fabricated also. These thick and thin P(VDF/TrFE) film pyroelectric infrared ray sensor was mounted in TO-5 housing to detect infrared light of 5.5 ~ 14 ${\mu}m$ wavelength for human body detecting with each other. The noise output voltage of the thick P(VDF/TrFE) film pyroelectric infrared ray sensor were 380 mV and NEP(noise equivalent power) is $3.95{\times}10^{-7}$ W which is the similar value with the commercial pyroelectric infrared ray sensor using ceramic materials as a sensing material. The NEP and specific detectivity $D^*$ of the thin P(VDF/TrFE) film pyroelectric infrared ray sensor were $2.13{\times}10^{-8}$ W and $9.37{\times}106$ cm/W under emission energy of 13 ${\mu}W/cm^2$ respectively. These result caused by lower thermal diffusion coefficient of a thin 1.6 ${\mu}m$ thickness PVDF/TrFE film than the thick 25 ${\mu}m$ thickness poled P(VDF/TrFE) film pyroelectric infrared ray sensor.

In this study, we designed new type of compact low frequency UWB sensor based on micro-strip technology and made experiments of offline dismantled testing compare with the traditional HFCT as a reference sensor in the laboratory. We investigated internal discharge, surface discharge, corona discharge and non-defected state normal stator on pre-made stator winding by using UWB patch sensor.

  • These days, the concerns about maintenance and repair of electric facilities for stable and reliable electric power supply are increasing day by day. Because, we can have enormous damages economically and socially from a problem of the facilities, no matter how it is a small one. Especially, electric facilities in our country had been built abruptly from 40 years ago, so it can be thought that here are great amount of old facilities that must be repaired or replaced with new one, and the number would be increased time by time. On this situation, many researchers are studying the efficient and reliable method of maintenance for electric facilities and the results are applied on the facilities gradually by growing interests of operators and managers of the facilities. In this paper, the IED(Intelligent Electronic Devices) for Diagnosis system of electric machines are described. It takes analog data from a sensing device and operates digital processor to get a optimum digital data for diagnosis system. Now, this device is applied on several high voltage substations to diagnose and maintain GIS. Brief schematic of total diagnosis system and the construction of the IED are included in this paper.

  • Micro Hotplate (MHP) is the key component in micro-sensors, particularly gas sensors. Indeed, in metal oxide gas sensors MOX, micro-heater is used as a hotplate in order to control the temperature of the sensing layer which should be in the requisite temperature range over the heater area, so as to detect the resistive changes as a function of varying concentration of different gases. Hence, their design is a very important aspect. In this paper, we have presented the design and simulation results of a meander micro heater based on three different materials - platinum, titanium and tungsten. The dielectric membrane size is 1.4 mm × 1.6 mm with a thickness of 1.4 μm. Above the membrane, a meander heating film was deposed with a thickness of 100 nm. In order to optimize the geometry, a comparative study by simulating two different heater thicknesses, then two inter track widths has also been presented. Power consumption and temperature distribution were determined in the micro heater´s structure over a supply voltage of 5, 6, and 7 V.

  • In this paper, we designed the embedded system used for wireless LAN communication. Embedded system kernel is made from general linux kernel 2.4.18 by applying the ARM patch (2.4.18-rmk7) and the SA1100 patch(2.4.18-rmk7), then porting board level suitable to target system. The SA-1110 PCMCIA interface provides controls for one PCMCIA card slot with a PSKTSEL pin for support of a second slot. The embedded system requires external logic to complete the PCMCIA socket interface. For dual-voltage support, level shifting buffers are required for all SA-1110 input signals. Hot insertion capability requires that each socket be electrically isolated from each other, and from the remainder of the memory system. embedded system is for socket services approaching PCMCIA socket, detecting number of sockets, sensing insertion and removal, and applying power. It also provides interface with Card services. Embedded system supports Host driver for lucent chips that is installed orinoco driver cross compiled. The meaning can say that is doing wireless LAN communication through wireless LAN in imbedded system.
