Active clamp forward converter provides zero voltage switching, low voltage stress and wide input voltage range. The design technique leads to getting a higher efficiency under high switching frequency and optimal operating range. It is designed for notebook computer adapter with free input voltage and 19.5V/120W output ratings. The efficiency is measured to more than 90%. One of the most important circuit parts is the filter inductor besides the transformer in active clamp forward converter. In this paper, the process of inductor design is listed optimally.

This paper presents a novel single-stage active-clamp type high frequency resonant inverter. The proposed topology is integrated full-bridge boost rectifier as power factor corrector and active-clamp type high frequency resonant inverter into a single-stage. The input stage of the full-bridge boost rectifier works in discontinuous conduction mode(DCM) with constant duty cycle and variable switching frequency. So that a boost converter makes the line current follow naturally the sinusoidal line voltage waveform. By adding additional active-clamp circuit to conventional class-E high frequency resonant inverter, main switch of inverter part operates not only at Zero-Voltage-Switching mode but also reduces the switching voltage stress of main switch. Simulation results have demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed high frequency resonant inverter. Characteristics values based on characteristics estimation through circuit analysis is given as basis data in design procedure. Also, experimental results are presented to verify theoretical discussion. This proposed inverter will be able to be practically used as a power supply in the fields of induction heating applications, fluorescent lamp and DC-DC converter etc.

This paper proposes a new switching algorithm for an active clamp snubber to improve the efficiency of a module integrated converter system. This system uses an active clamp method for the snubber circuit for the efficiency and reliability of the system. However, the active clamp snubber circuit has the disadvantage that system efficiency is decreased by switch operating time because of heat loss in resonance between the snubber capacitor and leakage inductance. To address this, this paper proposes a new switching algorithm. The proposed algorithm is a technique to reduce power consumption by reducing the resonance of the snubber switch operation time. Also, the snubber switch is operated at zero voltage switching by turning on the snubber switch before main switch turn-off. Simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the proposed new active clamp control algorithm.
The clamp meter maintains electric safety as a non-invasive method while measuring the absolute value of tube current with it has been recently developed for an X-ray high-tension cable. Especially this can show high accuracy at short X-ray exposure time. Considering such a condition, this study is to evaluate the feasibility of a clamp meter in measuring X-ray tube current by taking the measurements and comparing with those of the Dynalyzer III which has been considered as a standard measuring device. From measuring the tube current accuracy depending on changes in tube voltage and exposure time, the clamp meter showed higher accuracy rate which was -1.3~4.2% difference. Thus clamp meter can be used for clinical radiologists who are not familiar electric circuit to manage X-ray devices easily and correctly in the future.
The zero voltage and zero current switching(ZVZCS) full bridge (FB) PWM converter using secondary active clamp is characterized by high efficiency, good ZVZCS characteristic, simple topology and low cost. But at the period for discharge of the secondary clamp capacitor, peak pulses and ringing pulse occur in rectified secondary side of the converter. In this paper, a novel secondary active clamp circuit for the ZVZCS FB PWM converter is proposed and a 50 kHz, 500 W prototype converter was experimented for verification of the converter characteristics. It was verified that high voltage peak pulses and ringing pulse on secondary rectified waveforms of the converter are decreased effectively.
A DSP-based self-adaptive proportional-integral (PI) controller to control a DC-DC converter is proposed in this paper. The full-bridge topology is adopted here to obtain higher power output capability and higher conversion efficiency. The converter adopts the zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) technique to reduce the conduction losses. A parallel secondary active clamp circuit is added to deal with the voltage overshoot and ringing effect on the transformer's secondary side. A self-adaptive PI controller is proposed to replace the traditional PI controller. Moreover, the designed converter adopts the constant-current and constant-voltage (CC-CV) output control strategy. The secondary active clamp mechanism is discussed in detail. The effectiveness of the proposed converter was experimentally verified by an IGBT-based 10kW prototype.

In this study, an efficient clamp is proposed to reduce the switch voltage stress of a forward converter. The proposed clamp consists of a conventional LC snubber, a tertiary winding, and a diode. When the switch is turned OFF, the magnetizing inductor energy of the transformer is recovered directly into the flyback output, which is the tertiary winding and diode network, instead of circulating in the LC snubber. Therefore, switch voltage stress and circulating current caused by the magnetizing inductor energy are reduced. This condition improves the efficiency of the forward converter with limited switch voltage stress. A theoretical analysis and the design guidelines of the proposed converter are provided. Experimental results are also reported.
This paper presents a single switch, high step-up, non-isolated dc-dc converter suitable for renewable energy applications. The proposed converter is composed of a coupled inductor, a passive clamp circuit, a switched capacitor and voltage lift circuits. The passive clamp recovers the leakage inductance energy of the coupled inductor and limits the voltage spike on the switch. The configuration of the passive clamp and switched capacitor circuit increases the voltage gain. A wide continuous conduction mode (CCM) operation range, a low turn ratio for the coupled inductor, low voltage stress on the switch, switch turn on under almost zero current switching (ZCS), low voltage stress on the diodes, leakage inductance energy recovery, high efficiency and a high voltage gain without a large duty cycle are the benefits of this converter. The steady state operation of the converter in the continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is discussed and analyzed. A 200W prototype converter with a 28V input and a 380V output voltage is implemented and tested to verify the theoretical analysis.
The topology of active clamp forward converter provides ZVS characteristic and also the stress of voltage and current is smaller than that of the conventional forward converters. The benefits of this technique include a higher efficiency at a high switching frequency, lower EMI/RFI. In this paper, the active clamp forward converter is designed for operation in wide range voltage and has 19.5V/120W ratings with efficiency more than 90%.
A new fast-response high-current clamp DC-DC converter circuit design is presented that will meet the requirements and features of the new generation of microprocessors and digital systems. The clamp in the proposed converter amplifies the current in case of severe load changes and is able to produce high slew rate of output current and capability to keep constant the output voltage. This proposed high-current clamp technique is theoretically loss less, low cost and easy to implement with simple control scheme. This is modified from a basic buck topology by replacing the output inductor with two magnetically coupled inductors. Inductors are difference in inductance, one has large inductance and other has small inductance. The inductor with small inductance will take over the output inductor during fast load transient. It speedup the output current slew rate and reduce the output voltage drop in the case of heavy burden load changes.
