Because of the robust nonlinear characteristics appearing in today's modern power system, a strong interaction exists between the angle stability and the voltage stability, which were conventionally studied insularly. However, as the power system is a complex unified system, angle instability always happens in conjunction with voltage instability. The authors propose a novel method to analyze this type of stability problem. In the proposed method, the theory of normal forms of vector fields is utilized to treat the auxiliary dynamic system. By use of this method, the interaction between response modes caused by the nonlinearity of the power system can be analyzed. Consequently, the eigenvalue analysis method is extended to cope with performance analysis of the power system with heavy nonlinearity. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is verified on a 3-bus power system.
This paper presents an efficient method to calculate voltage collapse point and to improve static voltage stability. To evaluate static voltage stability in power systems. it is necessary to get critical loading points. For this purpose, we use linear programming to calculate efficiently voltage collapse point. And if index value becomes larger than given threshold value, vol tags stability is improved by compensation of reactive power at selected bus. This algorithm is verified by simulation on the sample system.
In this research, ANN modeling method of SMES unit is developed for stability analysis, and the optimal site is selected to maximize stabilization effect of SMES unit. The ANN is trained by learning data which is obtained through the application of complex test function into the traditional mathematical mode. In order to verify the validity of proposed modeling method, fault data of sample power system is applied to both the traditional and the ANN models. When the response of traditional and proposed models are compared, the average error for the active and reactive power are 2.51[%], and 0.24[%], respectively. From the comparison, the relevance of proposed method is validated. For the transient stability analysis, an application method of the proposed model is presented, and the transient stability performance index, which describes system stabilization effect of SMES at disturbance, is also suggested, and optimal site selection method of SMES is presented. In the viewpoint of the voltage stability, system stabilization criterion of local bus is presented from PV curve, and then optimal site which can maximize the voltage stabilization of the whole power system, is decided from the proposed voltage stability performance index.
The small signal model for input series-output parallel connected converter system employing charge control together with input capacitor voltage feedback loop is developed. From the model developed, the effect of input capacitor voltage feedback loop to the system stability and outer loop compensator design is analyzed. Theoretical results and simulation show that input capacitor voltage feedback loop has no critical effects on the system stability, so the system can be reduced to a equivalent single module for the stability analysis and outer loop compensator design.
This paper presents various processes of dynamic voltage collapse which is initiated by various power system disturbances, and the impacts of dynamic voltage controllers. According to the analysis results, the composition of induction motors with short time constants affects the voltage collapse strongly. Also, it is proved that the addition of fast acting reactive compensation devices, such as SVC, at high reactive loss sensitivity($$\delta$$Q$$_luss/\delta$$P$$_L$$) buses could be one of the best countermeasure to escape the voltage collapse.
A voltage stability assessment consists of the contingency screening, voltage stability analysis, and counter measures. A widely used index for the voltage stability assessment of power system is the reactive power margin. It shows some factors of voluntariness as following the status of power system and load levels for the target analyzing area. Therefore, it has a demerit that the absolute amounts of reactive power margin is not to be applied by the quantized margin criterion. This paper selects a vulnerable area by assigning the voltage instability for the particular contingency for the selection of vulnerable area in the respect of the investigation of reactive power margin or VQVI as an index of V-Q margin sensitivity in order to overcome the demerit. This will be able to grasp the V-Q margin sensitivity for the target analyzing area by presenting the ratio of power margin between the margin before and after contingency as following the calculation of reactive power margin. The presented method is applied to the voltage stability assessment for the Metropolitan area of 2003 KEPCO summer peak system.
Now days, voltage stability is well recognized as an important problem. It is well known that voltage stability is influenced by the characteristics of load. Up to present, voltage stability researches were done by the static load modeling, but it is needed that the precise analysis by the view point of dynamic load modeling. In this paper, with induction motor as dynamic load, I show the voltage collapse mechanism followed by load increase. Then I propose the protective method of voltage collapse by using TCSC.
This paper presents a new simplified method for finding the multiple load flow solutions and through their solutions the voltage stability can be evaluated. Line flow($P_{ij}$, $Q_{ij}$) may be formulated with the second-order equations for $V_{i}^{2}$ in polar coordinates or two circle equations for $e_{i}$ and $f_{i}$ in rectangular coordinates. Based on this feature, multiple load flow solutions are calculated with simple works, results of multiple load flow solutions are used for sensitivity analysis of voltage stability. Also, in the case that reactive power sources is considered, method of evaluating the voltage stability is introduced. The proposed method was validated to 2-bus and IEEE 6-bus system.
In this paper, as a part of the method improving stability, the load-flow calculation in D.C. power system and the models for stability analysis are studied with A.C-D.C. interconnected power systems transmission performed. Moreover, the theory is established in relation to each control method of D.C. power systems. Then the stability of A.C-D.C.interconnected power systems is compared and considered by the way of dividing the operating control method of the rectifier inverter converter into ACR-AVR, APR-A.gamma.R, A.alpha.R-ACR. The dynamics characteristic of terminal voltage, frequency, active-reactive power and rotor angle of the generator with disturbances and load fluctuations is considered. In addition, the characteristic of direct voltage, direct current, power and control systems. From this the comparative analysis of the direct current control method, the possibility of the stability analysis of A.C.-D.C. interconnected power system is considered. Probabilistic assessment of voltage stability margin (VSM) with existence of correlated wind speeds is investigated. Nataf transformation is adopted to establish wind speed correlation (WSC) model. Based on the saddle-node bifurcation transversality condition equations and Monte Carlo simulation technique, probability distribution of VSM is determined. With correlation coefficients range low to high value, the effect of WSC on VSM is studied. In addition, two risk indexes are proposed and the possible threat caused by WSC is evaluated from the viewpoint of risk analysis. Experimental results show that the presence of correlated wind speeds is harmful to safe and stable operation of a power system as far as voltage stability is concerned. The achievement of this paper gives a detailed elaboration about the influence of WSC on voltage stability and provides a potentially effective analytical tool for modern power system with large-scale wind power sources integration.
