  • Most spiders have four pairs of simple eyes. A few families of the spider have their developed eyes to an extent visual cues make up a significant of information to response from the external stimuli. Most spiders respond to the external stimuli around them. Specially, they are very sensitive to vibrations from the air, the ground, their webs, or even the surface of water. The present study was undertaken to examine the evolutionary development and function of eye with the observation of visual ultrastructure of Atypus coreanus Kim, 1985 using the electron microscopy. They have weak mobility, limited territory and low developed eyes. Atypus coreanus was collected from Mt. Ungil, Namyangju-gun, Kyonggi province. The fine structure of these eyes was examined by electron microscopy, and prepard by teasing method for scanning electron microscopic observation. As a result, the eyes of Atypus coreanus was composed of cornea, lens, vitreous body, retina, and rhabdome.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand dogs for their happy lives. Experiment and survey were conducted to find out the effects of sensory stimulation on dogs emotions. Sensory were divided into visual, auditory, olfactory, tactile, complex and emotions were measured by the rate of deep sleep, feed intake, and heart rate. Research has shown that complex stimulation (walking) is the most positive stimulation for dog's emotions, but visual stimulation and auditory stimulation do not act as stimuli that positively change usual state of dog's emotions. Olfactory stimuli is the second best stimulation. Since olfactory stimulation is effective in maintaining a calm state without large deviation in the dog's state, it can be used as a method for relieving the dog's stress in exceptional situations when complex stimulation is not possible. On the other hand, tactile stimulation, bath, is a negative sensory stimulus that causes hypersomnia and binge eating for most dogs.

  • This study was designed to investigate the effect of a combined stimulus which was composed of chiropractic massage and thermotherapy on the relief of mental and physical stress. Fifteen healthy male subjects were treated with three type of stimuli; control (without any stimulus), a single stimulus (only chiropractic) and a combined stimulus. To evaluate the effects of stimuli, visual analogue scale (VAS), trunk extension, electromyogram (EMG) on erector spinae muscle and electrocardiogram (ECG) were measured and analyzed before and after stimuli. In the control group, there were no significant changes in EMG root mean square (RMS) value and low Frequency/high Frequency (LF/HF) ratio (p > 0.05, p > 0.05). However, both stimulus groups showed significant increases in trunk extension and EMG RMS values (p < 0.05, p < 0.05), but significant decreases in LF/HF ratios (p < 0.05). Particularly the decrement rate in LF/HF ratio was significantly higher in the combined stimulus group than that in the single stimulus group (p < 0.05). Also, a significantly lower VAS was recorded after combined stimulus. Our findings indicate that the combined stimulus might not only improve flexibility and strength of muscle, but also active parasympathetic nerve activity. The combined stimulus may thus contribute to relieve the stress and to enhance the muscle function.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate visual evaluation according to various methods of motif presentation and the value contrast between the motif and background. The instruments developed for this purpose were two sets of stimuli and a response scale. the first set consisted of pattern stimuli. they were eight photographs of floral patterns constructed by using six different motif presentation methods and two different value contrasts. The second set had eight clothing stimuli, photographs of clothings with the above floral patterns. The 7-point sementic differential scale of 19 bipolar adjectives was used as the response scale. The data was analyzed by factor analysis, ANOVA and T-test. The major findings from this study were as follows; 1. Four factors emerged to account for the dimensional structure of the floral pattern image. These factors were attractiveness, tenderness, attention, and maturity. among them attractiveness and tenderness were the major dimensions 2. The patterns and the clothings had no significant difference from each other in terms of attractiveness and tenderness, but in terms of maturity and attention. The pattern presented a cute and sober image, but the clothing presented mature and gorgeous image. 3. methods of motif presentation had significant effects on all the factors. The pattern by shading method gave the most attractive and soft image, the one by line the most soberest, the one by area the most gorgeous, the one by collage the most unattractive, hardest, and cutest, and the one by mosaics the maturest. 4. The value contrast between the motif and background had no significant effects on attractiveness and maturity, but on tenderness and attention. The patterns with a high valued background presented a soft image, but the one with a low valued background a hard image. The patterns with a low valued area presented gorgeous image.

  • The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of different sensory information on the motor function which is resulted from visual stimuli. Particularly, it was focused on the effect of complementary color stimuli on reaction time. Twenty volunteers(10 men & 10 women), between the age of 20 and 25 yearn participated in this experiment. Experiments were carried out in a light & sound-attenuated chamber, and the overall system consisted of a PC. interface card. LEDs. key board switch, and display panel. Although many measurements of sensory-motor integration has been studied the quantitative analysis of sensory-motor integration has not been developed well. Quantitative analyses were performed to investigate the effect of the different sensory information on the arm motor system in the point of view sensory-motor integration. The result showed that the reaction time for visual stimuli of complementary colors was faster than that under same color environments : and, in same color environments and the reaction speed was varied inversely with respect to the magnitude of the light wavelength.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of online game addiction have been analyzed using fMRI. The fMRI images are taken from six target subjects who are around 20 years old, right-handed, and undergraduate male students with online game stimulations. The images are processed using SPM5, and statistical analysis showed following characteristics. First, online game stimuli produces an activation in BA18 of brain, and the Pearson correlation coefficient between the activation intensity of BA18 area and the addiction index value is very highly as .94. Second, the Pearson correlation coefficient is .75 between addiction index of subjects and activation index of the mesencephalon. From these observations, we found that the online game stimuli were processed as visual stimuli by subjects' brain, and the subject's brain with bigger addiction index processes more actively from the online game stimuli. Also, the online game stimuli activate the mesolimbic system, and therefore these findings may contribute for comparing the mechanism between general addiction and online game addiction.

  • In this study, we assessed how participants represent various sensory stimuli experiences through behavioral ratings and physiological measurements. Utilizing intersubject correlation (ISC) analysis, we evaluated whether individuals' affective responses of dominance, arousal, and valence differed when stimuli of three modality conditions (auditory, visual, and haptic) were presented. ISC analyses were used to measure the similarities between one participant's responses and those of the others. To calculate the intersubject correlation, we divided the entire dataset into one subject and all other subject datasets and then correlated the two for all possible stimulus pair combinations. The results revealed that for dominance, ISCs of the visual modality condition were greater than the auditory modality condition, whereas, for arousal, the auditory condition was greater than the visual modality. Last, negative valence conditions had the greater consistency of the participants' reactions than positive conditions in each of the sensory modalities. When comparing modalities, greater ISCs were observed in haptic modality conditions than in visual and auditory modality conditions, regardless of the affective categories. We discussed three core affective representations of multiple modalities and proposed ISC analysis as a tool for examining differences in individuals' affective representations.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences of visual effects by variations in the location of the waistline and the width of the round belt of the basic skirt. The stimuli are 21 samples: 7 variations of the location of the waistline and 3 variations of the width of the belt. The data has been obtained from 43 fashion design majors. The data has analyzed by frequency, factor analysis, anova, scheffe's test and the MCA method. The results of this study are as follows. The visual effects by variations of the location of the waistline and the width of the belt are composed of 3 factors: the shape of the front part of the abdomen, the shape of the side part of the abdomen, and the length of the upper body. The visual effects by variations of the width of the belt have partial significant differences. The visual effects by variations in the location of the waistline have significant differences in all factors. The interaction effects between the location of the waistline and the width of the belt have not significant differences in all factors.

  • In the Japanese garden, a unique planting design has been used to improve visual harmony with the surrounding landscape by planting plants around the objects that are not harmonious with surrounding landscape. In this study, physiopsychological effects of plants caused by a traditional planting skill used in Japanese garden was verified in terms of visual relaxation using eye movement recording and semantic differential method. A total of fourteen Japanese volunteers(seven male and seven female) who have normal vision(aged $21{\sim}28$) participated as subjects. Experiment was carried out in the sealed room of Chiba University in Japan. Four different types of scenery models were presented which were created by combination of the three landscape factors of the surrounding background, the object that disturbs visual harmony, and the trees planted for improving visual harmony with the surrounding landscape. In the results, significantly more gaze fixations were measured on the trees than on the object and higher values in positive feelings were recorded for the stimuli with proper planting combination. Our results indicated that proper tree planting can cause physiopsychological relaxation by improving visual harmony with the surrounding landscape and provided new evidence for supporting scientific validity of the traditional planting skills.
