  • MR acoustic sound or noise due to gradient pulsings has been one of the problems in MRI, both in patient scanning as well as in many areas of psychiatric and neuroscience research, such as brain fMRI. Especially in brain fMRI, sound noise is one of the serious noise sources which obscures the small signals obtainable from the subtle changes occurring in oxygenation status in the cortex and blood capillaries. Therfore, we have studied the effects of acoustic or sound noise arising in fMR imaging of the auditory, motor and visual cortices. The results show that the acoustical noise effects on motor and visual responses are opposite. That is, for the motor activity, it shows an increased total motor activation while for the visual stimulation, corresponding(visual) cortical activity has diminished substantially when the subject is exposed to a loud acoustic sound. Although the current observations are preliminary and require more experimental confirmation, it appears that the observed acoustic-noise effects on brain functions, such as in the motor and visual cortices, are new observations and could have significant consequences in data observation and interpretation in future fMRI studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the expressive effects of Queen Elizabeth I's robes in cinema and also to present two examples of Queen Elizabeth I's robes designed and made based on these expressive effects. To this end, this study wilt first examine Queen Elizabeth I's robes in her portraits according to the visual definers and emblematic meanings. Then on the basis of these knowledges, analyze visual definers and viewing priorities of Queen Elizabeth I's robes in five movies. Thereinafter, these robes will be classified based upon Belong(1998)'s four expressive effects. excitement. calmness, strength and delicacy. Finally, this study will demonstrate calmness and delicacy among four expressive effects through two robes made for the purpose. After analyzing the expressive effects of robes in five Queen Elizabeth I's movies, one can conclude excitement. calmness, strength, and delicacy can be found according to the flow of the story. Since this analysis focuses mainly on one particular person during one Particular period of time, there was a fundamental silhouette prevalent among the Queen's robes which then can be classified into different forms. Moreover, Queen's character in itself embodies authority and grace which. in turn, facilitates the presentation of the four expressive effects along the story line. In conclusion, thorough historical research on the character and the period. in addition to analysis of the visual definer and viewing priorities, is imperative when designing a historical costume.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the visual effects of autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) found in animations. So far, ASMR contents have been produced in one-person media or advertising contents with particular purposes. Unlike that, in animations, they have been produced in intuitive forms mainly for delivering messages. From the 2000's, however, gradually, animations intended for both appreciation and comfort and healing appeared, and such effects are similar to those of ASMR contents. This study has analyzed the visual effects of ASMR focusing on the Korean animated "Sonagi"(2017).

  • In this study of the relationship between preschoolers' visual perception and reading Hangul words, the 287 participants showed significant developmental change in visual perception between three to five years of age. The researcher developed the computer-based screening Test of Visual Perception for Reading (TVPR). Factor analysis confirmed three factors of TVPR : perception of number, direction, and form constancy. These factors correlated highly with four factors of motor-reduced visual perception of the Korean Developmental Test of Visual Perception (Moon et al. 2003). All factors of TVPR explained reading real words and pseudo words; direction and form constancy perception predicted reading low frequency letters. These findings confirm that preschoolers' skills in visual perception contribute to the reading of words in Hangul.

  • Feeling of shooting is one of the most important features of shooting games. Game developers have tried to improve feeling of shooting by using various techniques, such as visual/sound effects, rumble effects, animations, and camera techniques. In this paper, we introduce the results of the empirical analysis of the several techniques in a 2D shooting game. We carried out two experiments in which levels of feeling of shooting were measured in a simple 2D shooting game. The first experiment was configured with 16 combinations of the four techniques (visual, animation, sound, and rumble effects) applied to a shooting object (a cannon), and the second was configured with 16 combinations of the two techniques (visual and sound effects) applied to both or either side of a shooting object and exploding objects (enemy ships). The analysis results of the experiments showed that all of each techniques were statistically significant factors. We could also found that sound effects and rumble effects are more effective than visual effects and animations and that exploding objects are more important that a shooting object.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the differences of visual evaluatations by variations in the location of the waistline of the basic skirt. In the main experiment, we make 6 samples: the 1cm-natural waistline, the 3cm-natural waistline, the 5cm-natural waistline, the 7cm-natural waistline, the 9cm-natural waistline, the 11cm-natural waistline. The data has been obtained from 43 fashion design majors. The data has analyzed by Frequency, Factor Analysis, Anova, Scheffe's test. The results of the experiment are as follows. 1. The visual effects by the location of the waistline are composed of 4 factors: the shape of the abdomen, the shape of the pelvic, the length of the upper body, and the vertical effect of the lower body. 2. The visual effects by the location of the waistline have significant differnces all factors. The location of the waistline, which have the best visual effect, are the 3cm-waistline, the 5cm-waistline, and the 7cm-waistline. These location do not emphase the shape of the abdominal and pelvic regions, but they make the length of the lower part look slimmer and longer. 3. The visual image by the location of the waistline are corn posed of 3 factors: modesty, attractiveness, comfort. 4. The visual image by the location of the waistline have significant differnces all factors. In the visual image, the 1cm-waistline and the 5cm-waistline are evaluated badly in the aspects of modesty, attractiveness, comfort. The 9cm-waistline and the 11 cm-waistline are evaluated as having the best modesty and attraction features. The 3m-waistline are evaluated as the best comfort.

  • Physical therapists have been using biofeedback training to induce improvements in various circumstances. The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of visual and tactile feedback using electrical stimulation on quadriceps strength. Nineteen women without known impairment of the neuromusculoskeletal system volunteered for this study. Subjects were randomly allocated into three groups: visual feedback, tactile feedback, and control group. The torque of isometric knee extension force was measured. Subjects were asked to exert the maximal isometric contraction force of quadriceps over a 30 second period. The resting period of 10 minutes was given after the maximal isometric contraction to avoid the muscle fatigue. In between groups comparison, significant differences of the peak torque and the torque area were found on the performance of the maximal isometric contraction of quadriceps (p<.05). The values peak of torque and torque area were significantly higher during visual feedback than tactile feedback. The results of this study suggest that visual feedback is more powerful than tactile feedback (p<.01).

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of sensory stimulation type on the learning of the elderly. The study implemented elderly verbal learning test by evenly dividing a total of 40 elderly people into auditory stimulation followed by visual stimulation group(AVG), visual stimulation followed by auditory stimulation group(VAG), simultaneous visual and auditory stimulation group(SG), and auditory stimulation group(AG). The result are as follows. SSG showed highest results in most of the test, followed by AVG, VAG, and AG. In particular, SG showed a statistically significant difference in immediate recall total score and short delay free recall score(p<.05). In the post-hoc test results of immediate recall total score, SG showed highest score with a statistical significance. AVG showed the second highest score, followed by VAG and AG and all showed a statistic significance(p<.05).In the post-hoc test results of short delay free recall score, SG and AVG showed a statistically significantly higher score than AG(p<.05). The results suggest that simultaneous stimulation of visual and auditory sense is more effective for improving the learning of the elderly people than visual stimulation followed by auditory stimulation or auditory stimulation followed by visual stimulation.

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of 4 weeks visual biofeedback training on the knee joint angle and muscle activities of lower extremity. The participants in this study were 15 volunteers with hyperextended knee. To improve the hyperextended knee, visual biofeedback training was used during 4 weeks. The training is an exercise to maintain the balance between the anterior weight bearing and posterior weight bearing of the plantar foot. The knee joint angle significantly increased and the muscle activity of tibialis anterior was significantly decreased after visual biofeedback training. It was confirmed that visual biofeedback training of correcting hyperextended knee through the information on the plantar pressure distribution has a therapeutic effect.
