Physical Properties of Ophthalmic Hydrogel Polymer Containing Zinc Oxide Nanoparticles

  • ZnO nanoparticles and vinyl pyridine were added to the mixture of MMA (methyl methacrylate), HEMA (2-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate) and NVP (N-vinylpyrrolidone) in a mould at various concentrations. Cross-linker EGDMA (ethyleneglycoldimethacrylate) and AIBN (azobisisobutyronitrile) initiator were finally added to the mixture and then heated at $80^{\circ}C$ for 60 min to prepare high-performance hydrogel ophthalmic lens. The physical properties of the hydrogel ophthalmic material were investigated by measuring the average value of refractive index, water content and optical transmittance. The refractive index of 1.429~1.450, water content of 34~41%, and visible transmittance of 78~90% were obtained. The material is possibly used to manufacture UV-block hydrogel contact lens.

  • Coatings on glass with highly transparent conducting oxide films(TCOs) are performed mostly by using indium tin oxide(ITO). This Oxide material is very common for applications where both high electrical conductivity. Photovoltaic cells, transparent electrical heater, selective optical filter, and a optical transmittance are essential. In this study, ITO thin films were deposited on $SiO_2$/soda-line glass plates by a dc magnetron sputtering technique. The crystallinity and electrical properties of the films were investigated by X-ray diffraction(XRD), atomic force microscopy(AFM) scanning and 4-point probe. The optical transmittance of ITO films in the range of 300-800nm were measured with a spectrophotometer. As a result, we obtained polycrystalline structured ITO films with (222), (400), and (440) peak. Transmittance of all the films were higher than 90% in the visible range.

  • ITO films on PET substrate were prepared by DC magnetron sputtering method using powdery target with different deposition conditions. In addition, the electrical and optical properties were investigated. As the sputtering power and working pressure were higher, the resistvity of ITO films increased. The optical transmittance deteriorated with increasing sputtering power and thickness. As the working pressure increased, however, the optical transmittance improved at visible region of light. From these results, we could deposited ITO films with $8{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}-cm$ of resistivity and 80% of transmittance at optimal conditions.

Synthesis, Photophysical and Aggregation Properties of Novel Phenanthrene and Pyrene Substituted Phthalocyanines

  • We have explained the synthesis of novel phenanthrene and pyrene substituted phthalocyanines (PC-PHE and PC-PYR) and fully confirmed the structures by its spectral, photo physical and elemental analysis. For these phthalocyanines we checked the UV-Visible absorbance in PGMEA and chloroform and transmittance checked in PGMEA. The transmittance results suggested that these phthalocyanines are showing more than 90% transmittance at the 450-550 nm region. These synthesized molecules are nicely soluble in almost all industrial solvents. We checked the aggregation property of these phthalocyanines in PGMEA, and the results suggested no any aggregation for these molecules in PGMEA. The thermogravimetric analysis results concluded that PC-PHE and PC-PYR had high thermal stability. All studies explain that these new phthalocyanines are more suitable for LCD green color filter application.

  • We introduce new instrument that provides the spectral radiance at any incidence and azimuth angle in all the visible range. LCD emission and transmittance properties of display components can be measured precisely at each incidence and azimuth angle and wavelength. Full polarization spectral analysis can be also made.

  • 100 nm thick Sn doped ZnO (ZTO) single layer, 15 nm thick Ag buffered ZTO (ZTO/Ag), Ag intermediated ZTO (ZTO/Ag/ZTO) and Ag capped ZTO (Ag/ZTO) films were prepared on poly-carbonate (PC) substrates by RF and DC magnetron sputtering and then the influence of the Ag thin film on the optical and electrical properties of ZTO films were investigated. As deposited ZTO thin films show the visible transmittance of 81.8%, while ZTO/Ag/ZTO trilayer films show a higher visible transmittance of 82.5% in this study. From the observed results, it can be concluded that the 15 nm thick Ag interlayer enhances the opto-electrical performance of ZTO thin films effectively for use as flexible transparent conducting oxides films in various opto-electrical applications.

Change of Optical Properties in Zinc Oxide-Based Glasses including Metal Oxides for Transparent Dielectric

  • This paper presents a new method for the improvement of color temperature without the change of the driving scheme using transparent dielectric layers with various metal oxides (CeO$_2$, Co$_3$O$_4$, CuO, Fe$_2$O$_3$, MnO$_2$, NiO) in plasma display panels (PDP). In this study, we fabricated ZnO-B$_2$O$_3$-SiO$_2$-Al$_2$O$_3$ glasse with various metal oxides and examined the optical properties of these glasses. As the metal oxides were added to the glasses, the visible transmittances of the dielectric layers decreased and the transmittances in special wavelength regions were reduced at different rates. The change of the transmittance in each wavelength range induced the variation of the visible emission spectra and the change of the color temperature in the PDP. The addition of Co$_3$O$_4$ and CuO slightly decreased the intensity of the blue light, but the intensities of the green and the red light were significantly decreased. Therefore, the color temperature can be improved from 6087K to 7378K and 7057K, respectively.

급속열처리에 따른 ZTO/Ag/ZTO 박막의 전기적, 광학적 특성 개선 효과 (Effect of Post-deposition Rapid Thermal Annealing on the Electrical and Optical Properties of ZTO/Ag/ZTO Tri-layer Thin Films)

  • The ZTO single layer and ZTO/Ag/ZTO tri-layer films were deposited on glass substrates by using the radio frequency (RF) and direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering and then rapid thermal annealed (RTA) in a low pressure condition for 10 minutes at 150 and $300^{\circ}C$, respectively. As deposited tri-layer films show the 81.7% of visible transmittance and $4.88{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}cm$ of electrical resistivity, while the films annealed at $300^{\circ}C$ show the increased visible transmittance of 82.8%. The electrical resistivity also decreased as low as $3.64{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}cm$. From the observed results, it is concluded that rapid thermal annealing (RTA) is an attractive post-deposition process to optimize the opto-elecrtical properties of ZTO/Ag/ZTO tri-layer films for the various display applications.

  • The material that is both conductive in electricity and transparent to the visible-ray is called transparent conducting thin film. It has many field of application such as solar cell, liquid crystal display, transparent electrical heater, selective optical filter, and a optical electric device. Influence of the Ag interlayer on the structural, optical, and electrical properties of ZTO/Ag/ ZTO films

  • ZnSnO3 (ZTO)/Ag/ ZnSnO3 (ZTO) trilayer films were prepared on glass substrates by radio frequency (RF) and direct current (DC) magnetron sputtering. The electrical resistivity and optical transmittance of the films were investigated as a function of the Ag interlayer thickness. ZTO films with a 15 nm thick Ag interlayer show the highest average visible transmittance (83.2%) in the visible range. In this study, the highest figure of merit (2.1×10−2 Ω cm) is obtained with the ZTO 50 nm/Ag 15 nm/ZTO 50 nm films. The enhanced optical and electrical properties of ZTO films with a 15 nm thick Ag interlayer are attributed to the crystallization of the Ag interlayer, as supported by the distinct XRD pattern of the Ag (111) peaks. From the observed results, higher optical and electrical performance of the ZTO film with a 15 nm thick Ag interlayer seems to make a promising alternative to conventional transparent conductive ITO films.
