  • With the advance of ICT, the Internet has been creating new services in various fields. However, due to the architectural problem of the Internet, it may inhibit the development of network architectures and various services. Network virtualization is being investigated as an alternative to overcome the architectural problem of the Internet and a virtual network resource allocation algorithm is a very important issue. In this paper, we propose a multiple path resource allocation algorithm with shared backup bandwidth in order to overcome single link failure. It will be improved survivability of the virtual networks. Through our experiments, we confirmed that the multi-path creation time of the proposed algorithm has about 50% performance improvement than previous works.

  • In the cloud computing environment, cloud service users purchase and use the virtualized resources from cloud resource providers on a pay as you go manner. Typically, there are two billing plans for computing resource allocation adopted by large cloud resource providers such as Amazon, Gogrid, and Microsoft, on-demand and reserved plans. Reserved Virtual Machine(VM) instance is provided to users based on the lengthy allocation with the cheaper price than the one of on-demand VM instance which is based on shortly allocation. With the proper mixture allocation of reserved and on-demand VM corresponding to users' requests, cloud service providers are able to reduce the resource allocation cost. To do this, prior researches about VM allocation scheme have been focused on the optimization approach with the users' request prediction techniques. However, it is difficult to predict the expected demands exactly because there are various cloud service users and the their request patterns are heavily fluctuated in reality. Moreover, the previous optimization processing techniques might require unacceptable huge time so it is hard to apply them to the current cloud computing system. In this paper, we propose the cloud brokering system with the adaptive VM allocation schemes called A3R(Adaptive 3 Resource allocation schemes) that do not need any optimization processes and kinds of prediction techniques. By using A3R, the VM instances are allocated to users in response to their service demands adaptively. We demonstrate that our proposed schemes are able to reduce the resource use cost significantly while maintaining the acceptable Quality of Service(QoS) of cloud service users through the evaluation results.

  • When a networked virtual reality system handles composite media audio and video as well as three dimensional computer graphics, the quality of the virtual space is greatly affected by the current available network, and end system resources. Even if the network can preserve a certain amount of resources, the required resources change dynamically according to the user\`s navigation of a large virtual space, and then it may decrease the quality of the virtual space. In this paper, a method for resource allocation is proposed and the proposed system copes with the deterioration of quality of virtual spaces in case that the starvation of system resources occurs. The experimental results show that the proposed method is efficient.

  • Data centers, which implement cloud service, have been faced up with quick growth of energy consumption and low efficiency of energy. 60GHz wireless communication technology, as a new option to data centers, can provide feasible approach to alleviate the problems. Aiming at energy optimization in 60GHz wireless data centers (WDCs), we investigate virtualization technology to assign virtual resources to minimum number of servers, and turn off other servers or adjust them to the state of low power. By comprehensive analysis of wireless data centers, we model virtual network and physical network in WDCs firstly, and propose Virtual Resource Mapping Packing Algorithm (VRMPA) to solve energy management problems. According to VRMPA, we adopt packing algorithm and sort physical resource only once, which improves efficiency of virtual resource allocation. Simulation results show that, under the condition of guaranteeing network load, VPMPA algorithm can achieve better virtual request acceptance rate and higher utilization rate of energy consumption.

  • Cloud Computing can be viewed as a dynamically-scalable pool of resources. Virtualization is one of the key technologies enabling Cloud Computing functionalities. Virtual machines (VMs) scheduling and allocation is essential in Cloud Computing environment. In this paper, two dynamic VMs scheduling and allocating schemes are presented and compared. One dynamically on-demand allocates VMs while the other deploys optimal threshold to control the scheduling and allocating of VMs. The aim is to dynamically allocate the virtual resources among the Cloud Computing applications based on their load changes to improve resource utilization and reduce the user usage cost. The schemes are implemented by using SimPy, and the simulation results show that the proposed adaptive scheme with one threshold can be effectively applied in a Cloud Computing environment both performance-wise and cost-wise.

  • Cloud computing platform is a shared pool of resources and services with various kind of models delivered to the customers through the Internet. The methods include an on-demand dynamically-scalable form charged using a pay-per-use model. The main problem with this model is the allocation of resource in dynamic. In this paper, we have proposed a mechanism to optimize the resource provisioning task by reducing the job completion time while, minimizing the associated cost. We present the Cooperative Agents Dynamic Resource Allocation and Monitoring in Cloud Computing CADRAM system, which includes more than one agent in order to manage and observe resource provided by the service provider while considering the Clients' quality of service (QoS) requirements as defined in the service-level agreement (SLA). Moreover, CADRAM contains a new Virtual Machine (VM) selection algorithm called the Node Failure Discovery (NFD) algorithm. The performance of the CADRAM system is evaluated using the CloudSim tool. The results illustrated that CADRAM system increases resource utilization and decreases power consumption while avoiding SLA violations.

  • Recently, to satisfy mobile users' increasing data transmission requirement, energy efficiency (EE) resource allocation in distributed antenna systems (DASs) has become a hot topic. In this paper, we aim to maximize EE in DASs subject to constraints of the minimum data rate requirement and the maximum transmission power of distributed antenna units (DAUs) with different density distributions. Virtual cell is defined as DAUs selected by the same user equipment (UE) and the size of virtual cells is dependent on the number of subcarriers and the transmission power. Specifically, the selection rule of DAUs is depended on different scenarios. We develop two scenarios based on the density of DAUs, namely, the sparse scenario and the dense scenario. In the sparse scenario, each DAU can only be selected by one UE to avoid co-channel interference. In order to make the original non-convex optimization problem tractable, we transform it into an equivalent fractional programming and solve by the following two sub-problems: optimal subcarrier allocation to find suitable DAUs; optimal power allocation for each subcarrier. Moreover, in the dense scenario, we consider UEs could access the same channel and generate co-channel interference. The optimization problem could be transformed into a convex form based on interference upper bound and fractional programming. In addition, an energy-efficient DAU selection scheme based on the large scale fading is developed to maximize EE. Finally, simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm for both sparse and dense scenarios.

  • Virtual Machine (VM) resource management is crucial to satisfy the Quality of Service (QoS) demands of various multimedia services in a media cloud platform. To this end, this paper presents a VM resource allocation model that dynamically and optimally utilizes VM resources to satisfy QoS requirements of media-rich cloud services or applications. It additionally maintains high system utilization by avoiding the over-provisioning of VM resources to services or applications. The objective is to 1) minimize the number of physical machines for cost reduction and energy saving; 2) control the processing delay of media services to improve response time; and 3) achieve load balancing or overall utilization of physical resources. The proposed VM allocation is mapped into the multidimensional bin-packing problem, which is NP-complete. To solve this problem, we have designed a Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) model, as well as heuristics for quantitatively optimizing the VM allocation. The simulation results show that our scheme outperforms the existing VM allocation schemes in a media cloud environment, in terms of cost reduction, response time reduction and QoS guarantee.

  • This paper is concerned with the problem of joint resource allocation and user-pairing in virtual MIMO SC-FDMA systems to improve service quality of experience (QoE). No-reference logarithmic model is introduced to quantify service experience for each user and the objective is to maximize sum of all user's mean of score (MOS). We firstly formulate the optimal problem into an S-dimensional (S-D) assignment problem. Then, to solve this problem, the modified Lagrangian relaxation algorithm is deduced to obtain the suboptimal result of joint user-paring and subchannel allocation. The merits of this solution are as follows. First, the gap between its results and the global optimal one can be quantified and controlled by balancing the complexity and accuracy, which merit the other suboptimal algorithms do not have. Secondly, it has the polynomial computational complexity and the worst case complexity is O(3LN3), where L is the maximum iteration time and N is the number of subchannels. Simulations also prove that our proposed algorithm can effectively improve quality of experience and the gap between our proposed and the optimal algorithms can be controlled below 8%.
