An industrial robot noise has various noise sources such as gears, motors, bearings, and controller fans. Among these, gears are the most dominant source for noise. The gear noise, caused by tooth profile, elastic deformation, machining error and wear, is directly correlated with the transmission error of mating gear. Due to the fact that has several axis and many gears, it is difficult to understand the characteristics of the vibration and noise of robots. In this study, some advanced analysis techniques based on digital signal processing such as power spectrum, time spectral map, RPM map, and etc., were applied for locating the dominant frequency components of the robot noises and identifying their sources. In addition, sound quality analysis was performed in order to evaluate the operator's annoyance. The noise and vibration measurements were carried out at several points during the operation of each axis considering the effect of load and posture of the robot. Eased on the results, proper countermeasures to reduce excessive noise level have been suggested considering the characteristics of sources.

This paper presents nonlinear vibration characteristics of a vertical passive zero stiffness isolator. The passive isolator can achieve zero stiffness through buckling of notched flexure caused by a compressive force. First, a simulation model of the isolator was built based on elastic beam theory. As increasing the compression force, time and frequency responses of the isolator were simulated. In addition, further nonlinear vibration characteristics were investigated through a bifurcation diagram and a Poincare's map, which shows that even chaostic vibration could happen. The simulations show that as the compressive force increases, the stiffness goes close to zero and the nonlinear characteristic becomes stronger to have a great effect on the isolation performance.

As an effective way of response evaluation in structural vibration analysis, the phase vector sum(PVS) method used in shaft torsional vibration analysis is introduced. Basic relation of PVS applicable to structural problem is derived and applied to Diesel engine structures. Concepts of forced phase vector sum (FPVS) and significance level (SL) are proposed to visualize the correlation between excitation orders and vibration modes in the SL map. The maximum responses and SL are compared and reviewed to confirm the validity of the method. It is regarded FPVS is adequate to newly evaluate the structural vibration based on excitation information.

NVH issue at idle condition is one of the major concerns of Passenger and Commercial Vehicle including Sports Utility Vehicle Especially steering wheel vibration at idle condition is a very complex problem and affected by firing frequency of the engine, stiffness of a steering wheel system and the body to which the steering wheel system is attached. To avoid vibration mode coupling between each system of a vehicle, experimental and analytical method has been used at the pre-prototype stage. The resonance frequency of the body and the frame has been decoupled by CAE and the resonance frequency of steering wheel system has been set in between the 1st bending frequency of body and frame. These Results has been used as design guidelines tot the prototype drawing stage. The experimental verification of tile modified pre-prototype vehicle shows good results of the vibration mode decouple. Modal test of prototype vehicle also confirms the vibration mode decouple between each system.

A new signal processing technique, the directional harmonic wavelet map(dHWM), is presented to characterize the instantaneous planar motion of a measurement point in a structure from its transient complex-valued vibration signal. It is proven that the auto-dHWM essentially tracks the shape and directivity of the instantaneous planar motion, whereas the phase of the cross-dHWM indicates its inclination angle. Finally, the technique is successfully applied to an automobile engine for characterization of its transient motion during crank-on/idline/engine-off.
Purpose: This study aimed to install an RTK-GPS (Real Time Kinematic-Global Positioning System) and IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) on a tractor used in a farm to measure positions, pasture topography, posture angles, and vibration accelerations, translate the information into maps using the GIS, analyze the characteristics of grass harvesting work, and establish new technologies and construction standards for pasture infrastructure improvement based on the analyzed data. Method: Tractor's roll, pitch, and yaw angles and vibration accelerations along the three axes during grass harvesting were measured and a GIS map prepared from the data. A VRS/RTK-GPS (MS750, Trimble, USA) tractor position measuring system and an IMU (JCS-7401A, JAE, JAPAN) tractor vibration acceleration measuring systems were mounted on top of a tractor and below the operator's seat to obtain acceleration in the direction of progression, transverse acceleration, and vertical acceleration at 10Hz. In addition, information on regions with bad workability was obtained from an operator performing grass harvesting and compared with information on changes in tractor posture angles and vibration acceleration. Results: Roll and pitch angles based on the y-axis, the direction of forward movements of tractor coordinate systems, changed by at least $9-13^{\circ}$ and $8-11^{\circ}$ respectively, leading to changes in working postures in the central and northern parts of the pasture that were designated as regions with bad workability during grass harvesting. These changes were larger than those in other regions. The synthesized vectors of the vibration accelerations along the y-axis, the x-axis (transverse direction), and the z-axis (vertical direction) were higher in the central and northwestern parts of the pasture at 3.0-4.5 m/s2 compared with other regions. Conclusions: The GIS map developed using information on posture angles and vibration accelerations by position in the pasture is considered sufficiently utilizable as data for selection of construction locations for pasture infrastructure improvement.

A stability theory of a damped cantilever column under sub-tangential follower forces is first summarized based on the stability map. It is then demonstrated that internal and external damping can be exactly transformed to Rayleigh damping so that the damping coefficients can be effectively determined using proportional damping. Particularly a parametric study with variation of damping coefficients is performed in association with flutter loads of Beck's column and it is shown that two damping coefficients can be correctly estimated for real systems under the assumption of Rayleigh damping. Finally a frequency equation of a cantilever beam subjected to both a sub-tangentially follower force and two kinds of damping forces is presented in the closed-form and its stability maps are constructed and compared with FE solutions in the practical range of damping coefficients.

The various computer programs are used in computer simulation of the traffic noise prediction. But the difference or problem of calculation method used for road traffic noise prediction is not exactly investigated. In this paper, Road traffic noise is predicted on the specific regions by using four prediction methods such as XPS31-133 model(France), RLS-90 model(Germany), ASJ RTN model(Japan) and FHWA model(U.S.A.), which are operated by a program named SoundPLAN, a program to predict road traffic noise. Those prediction values are compared with a measurement value. The results show that four prediction values for taraffic noise are a little different, because of various input factors according to the prediction methods.

The present study investigates the effect of the flight path of military aircraft on noise map and its WECPNL distribution. Aircraft noise modeling and simulation are made on a Korean military airport by INM(Integrated Noise Model) 6.2 version, and the flight path of military aircraft is modeled by combining takeoff, overfly, approach and touch-and-go modes. The present INM simulations are conducted for two cases with different overfly modes and show that the change of overfly mode remarkably affects the noise influence region and the WECPNL distribution around the aircraft.

Residents in an area where both trains and cars pass through are exposed to not only road traffic noise but also railway noise. Nevertheless, the degree of annoyance the caused to the residents is being under evaluated as the noises have been evaluated separately. Therefore, this study aimed at evaluating the integrated noise of road traffic and railway, and proving the accuracy of the evaluation result.
