  • Brake squeal noise has been a problem since the early days of motoring . It is important to obtain vibration mode shape for reduction of brake noise . Stroboscopic Electronic Speckle Pattern Interferometry is a very powerful measuring method for study of vibrating objects in static state compared with conventional methods because this method can give both resonance frequency and quantitative visualization of vibration mode shape at the same time. In this paper, we performed qualitative visualization and quantitative analysis of vibration mode shpae of disk brake by using stroboscopic ESPI and phase shifting method. The stroboscopic wavefronts are obtained by chopping continuous wave laser beam using acousto-optic modulator .Experiments were performed at the same constraint conditions as disk brake of the practical vehicle as far as possible. The experimental results of this paper show quantitative measurement of vibration mode shape and quantiative visualization of vibration amplitude of disk brake with 3D plotting.

  • In this paper, an experimental method using a reference accelerometer has been developed to measure the in-plane vibration intensity of a beam. It has the advantages of reducing accelerometer phase error comparing with the cross spectral intensity measurement technique using an accelerometer array. It needs no measurement of the input force required in the frequency response method using the only one accelerometer This method has been used to measure the in-plane vibration intensity over the beam. The result has been compared with an input power and the vibration intensity obtained with other methods. It showed that the present experimental method can be effectively used to measure the structural in-plane vibration intensity.

  • Extraordinary displacement and vibration by heavy vehicle causes passengers to feel mental uncomfortableness and bridge to be damaged. To increase serviceability, the research on the human influence for vibration to happen at the bridge has been performed for a long time in oversea but it does not draw concern relatively in the domestic. The purpose of this research is to develop an evaluation method for vibration serviceability of continuous slab bridge. This research is focused on establishing theoretical method to assess vibration serviceability of bridge considering natural frequency, displacement, and acceleration since the criteria for the human responses to vibration is generally based on frequency band. By examining the characteristics of vibration serviceability which has been assessed with human response curve through field experiments as well as analytical study, the evaluation method of vibration serviceability for continuous slab bridges is proposed. Based on applications to the example of continuous slab bridge, the simple evaluation of vibration serviceability in the paper may be used in the initial step of design practice.

  • The quality of vibration pattern reproduction of elastic structures by the modal expansion method is influenced by the modal expansion method and the sensor placement as well as the accuracy of measured natural modes and the total number of vibration sensors. In this context, this paper presents an improved numerical method for reproducing the vibration patterns by introducing a block-wise modal expansion method (BMEM), together with the genetic algorithm (GA). For a given number of vibration sensors, the sensor positions are determined by an evolutionary optimization using GA and the modal assurance criterion (MAC). Meanwhile, for the proposed block-wise modal expansion, a whole frequency range of interest is divided into several overlapped frequency blocks and the vibration field reproduction is made block by block with different natural modes and different modal participation factors. A hollow cylindrical tank is taken to illustrate the proposed improved modal expansion method. Through the numerical experiments, the proposed method is compared with several conventional methods to justify that the proposed method provides the improved results.

  • Ground vibration generated repeatedly in blasting tunnel excavation sites is known to be one of the major hazards induced by blasting operations. Various studies have been conducted to minimize these hazards, both theoretical and empirical methods using electronic detonator, the deck charge method, the center-cut method among others Among these various existing methods for controlling the ground vibration, in this study, we investigated the cut method. In particular, we analyzed and compared the V-cut method, which is commonly used in tunnel blasting, to the double-drilled parallel method, which has recently been introduced in tunnel excavation site. To understand the rock fragmentation efficiency as well as the ground vibration controllability of the two methods, we performed in-situ field blasting tests with both cut methods at a tunnel excavation site. Additionally, numerical analysis by FLAC3D has been executed for a better understanding of fracture propagation pattern and ground vibration generation by each cut method. Ground vibration levels, by PPVs measured in field blasting tests and PPVs estimated in numerical simulations, showed a lower value in the double-drilled parallel compared with the V-cut method, although the exact values are quite different in field measurement and numerical estimation.

  • Blasting method is used most engineering works for rock excavation. Blasting method is done much to upgrade of operation efficiency, contraction of construction period than other method. But blasting method happens damage by blasting vibration, nose and scattering. Therefore this study examined about effect, characteristic and application of Plasma method. To confirm effect measured vibration, noise and frequency, and analyzed data compare with general blasting.

  • There are several methods to obtain structural vibration for analysis of vibro-acoustic noise. First of all, vibration data can be obtained through the structural analysis using finite element method. Although this method has no need to experiment, the analysis result is unreliable when the structure and the vibration source is complex to model exactly. The second method is to measure vibration using a number of sensors. The analyzed vibro-acoustic noise with directly measured data is setting morereliable when the number of data acquisition points is getting larger. However, it requires large amount of time and effort to measure all vibration data on every node especially when the size of vibrating structure is large. The Modal Expansion Method(MEM), which uses mode information and measurement data, has been introduced to compensate their limits. With a relatively small number of measurement data, the reliable structural vibration for vibro-acoustic noise can be obtained using this semi-analysis method. Although MEM gives reliable result, it is restricted by the number of modes and measurement points. In this paper, structural analysis, direct vibration measurement method and MEM are compared using the simple aluminum box model. Furthermore, the washing machine case is also provided as a comparative example. The Laser Doppler Vibrometer(LDV) was used instead of contact type accelerometer to get vibration data.

  • Noise and vibration triggered by pile driving in a construction site not only give hard time to the surrounding areas but could also cause residents nearby to file civil complaints to the extent of bringing construction to a halt. To deal with this issue, construction engineers have worked strenuously to develop low noise & low vibration pile methods. A noise & vibration-free screw concrete pile method proposed in this study is one of the successful outputs. It penetrates pile underground by rotating and pressing in body of the pile to avert noise and vibration while maximizing bearing capacity. A prototype of noise and vibration-free precast screw pile method was manufactured, which is not seen anywhere in Korea and elsewhere, and have undergone pilot tests twice to determine construction method.

  • There are so many types of construction equipment. Excavator is one of typical construction equipment which is working under the tough and severe environments. It's important for engineers to design CE components by the vibration durability point of view. Traditionally, two typical vibration durability methods to verify the durability of components. The first is experimental method which is using the vibration durability test bench. But experimental approach on vibration durability is needed a lot of cost and time. The second is analytical method which is using the vibration durability analysis such as Dirlik, Stainberg, Lalanne and others methodologies. The one of main advantages on vibration durability analysis can reduce the cost and time. We present a vibration durability analysis process and methodology on the guardrail system in excavator.
