A Study on the Cost Benefit Analysis Model of Vessel Traffic Services(II) (선박교통관리제도의 비용편익분석모델에 관한 연구(II))

  • The introduction of coastal vessel traffic services enables vessels in coastal waters to navigate in safety or to get her position with ease and prevents the vessel from becoming cause of casualties. But it needs relatively huge amount of cost to construct and operate and maintain. Thus we must be checked with economical adequacy of the the proposed coastal vessel traffic services by comparing the cost of the construction, operation and maintenance with the expected benefit made by the expected decrease in marine casualties. In previous paper, a proper cost-benefit analysis model for the Korean practice will be suggested. In this Paper, the proposed the cost-benefit analysis model of coastal vessel traffic services was applied to the Koje coastal waters 20mi1es from the top of Maemul-Do and Yokchi-Do. As the result, we confirmed the propriety of the cost-benefit analysis with the application of the proposed model to Koje waters. Also, it is verified that the introduction of coastal vessel traffic services, as proposed, is adequate and economical. The cost-benefit analysis model proposed in this study could be used to investigate the economic Propriety of new aids to navigation and traffic safety facilities in the future.

A Study on Economic Operation for Liner-Fleet by Fluctuation of Fuel Oil Price - Focusing on the Case of 'H' Shipping Company -

  • For container shipping company, fuel oil prise is a considerable expense. Since 2008, fuel oil prises have risen dramatically. An increasing fuel oil price in container shipping, in the short term, is only partially compensated through surcharges and may affect earnings negatively. This study discusses the impact of an increasing fuel oil price and capital costs for vessels on the Asia-Europe trade of 'H' Shipping Company. According to the result of 'H' carrier's operation in 2008, there were no cost differences between 8 and 9 vessels operations in case of fuel oil price with USD 169/tons while adopting USD 31,818 as a fixed cost. We can expect that the fuel oil price will not go lower than USD 200/Ton on the basis of current high oil price phenomenon. When the fuel oil price is over USD 200/ton, 9 vessel operation is more economic than 8 vessel operation even if the fixed cost is over USD 35,000.

  • Determination the optimal containership size is the most important factor for competitiveness if shipping companies. Accordingly, the objective if this research is determining the optimal containership size by service routes. Total shipping cost is calculated at the ground if capital cost, vessel operation costs, voyage costs, port charge and miscellaneous cost for 'Europe-Far East', 'Far East-North America' and 'Europe-Far East-North America' Services. Finally, the optimal containership size was utilized through total shipping cost, slot quantity if containership and average throughput by containership.

  • The integral reactor is tripped by the boron injection to the reactor when the CEA(Control element assembly) is not available due to its malfunction. In general, the borated water is made by dissolving the boron powder in the water and is stored in a tank. and then injected. But, this method is disadvantageous from the view point of construction cost, operation and maintenance because it has many components and is complicated. In this study, the boron powder direct vessel injection method is adopted to improve the system. Injecting the boron powder directly to the vessel and decreasing of number of components, the system configuration, operation and maintenance is simplified and the construction cost is reduced.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the economics between a diesel propulsion vessel and a LNG fuel propulsion vessel through the analysis of the present value using the LCC(Life Cycle Cost) method. This study is also to judge the economics for long-term operation of a LNG fuel propulsion vessel as a result of analysis about the equivalent uniform annual cost. In particular, LCC method was strengthened by sensitivity analysis based on combined interest rate which is considering discount rate and inflation rate simultaneously.

  • fishing boat is a specialized vessel which is intended to perform certain well defined tasks. Its size, deck-layout, carrying capacity and equipment are all related to its function in carrying out its planned operations. Therefore the process of fishing boat design is inherently combined with optimization of the design variables called the economic optimization criteria. Optimization then is a process in which minimum value of weight or cost is established through evaluation of consecutive designs in which one or more design parameters are varied. This paper is to study the basic-design of Stow-net fishing vessel in the Mok-Po region. The main task is developed the preliminary design model of engineering economic system in order to use optimization techniques from operation research the design problem needs to be expressed in terms of objective function and numerous constrains like : speed, fish hold capacity, fishing range, displacement and weight, ratio of main dimensions, etc. The objective function represents the criterion which is NPV such as the ratio of revene/cost. When using computers of limited capacity like P/C, the developed basic-design model of the economic optimization procedure must be simplified to V, Cb, L/B, Dv, Db and less than 15 constraint equations. The main conclusions of this study have attempted to show that economic considerations are essential in Stow-net fishing vessel basic design and operations, and that techno-economic evaluation is an important tool for the design of Stow-net fishing vessel in 69ton and 79ton.

  • Reactor vessel is one of the most important equipment with regard to the safety of nuclear power plant. Thus nuclear regulation requires its periodical examination by certified inspection experts. Conventional reactor inspection machines are obsolete, hard to handle, and very expensive. To solve these problems we developed robotic reactor vessel inspection system which are small, easy to use for inspection, cost effective, and convenient in operation. This paper describes the main features of Main Control System which is one part of robotic inspection equipment we developed.

A Determination of the Optical Containership Size Using a Total Shipping Cost Analysis (컨테이너선의 총 비용 분석을 통한 노선별 최적선형 도출)

  • Traditionally, determination of the optimal containership size is the most important factor for competitiveness of shipping companies in the shipping market. Under this environment, many shipping companies and researchers have studied about it. The objective of this research is to determine the optimal containership size using a total shipping cost in the main trunk lines. Total shipping cost is calculated at the ground of capital costs, vessel operation costs, voyage costs, port charges and miscellaneous costs for 'Europe-Far East', 'Far East-North America' and 'Europe-Far East-North America' services. Analysis results showed that the 6,500TEU containership is an optimal size on the 'Europe-Far East' and 'Europe-Far East-North America' services. And the 8,200TEU containership is an optimal size on the 'Far East-North America' service. Moreover, if the larger containerships over 8,200TEU class start operation afterward, it would be less competitive in the analyzed 3services.

  • In these days, 8000TEU container ship service launches in shipping service at latest based on the economy of scale, unit cast related with ship operation on ocean decreases in proportion to increase of ship scale and mega ship over 10,000TEU is on planning.   • In order to prevent collision accidents of ships, which has been increasing recently, research on artificial intelligence-based autonomously operated ships (Maritime Autonomous Surface Ship, MASS) is underway. However, most of the studies related to autonomous ships mainly target medium-to-large ships due to the size and cost of the autonomous navigation system, and the sensors used here have a problem in that it is difficult to mount them on small ships. Therefore, this paper provides a path tracking system equipped with GPS and IMU sensors for autonomous operation of small ships. GPS and IMU sensors are utilized to determine the exact position of the vessel, which allows the proposed system to manually control the small vessel model to create a path and then when the small vessel travels the same path. Use the Pure Pursuit algorithm to follow the path. As a result, In this research, it is expected that a lightweight and low-cost sensor can be used to develop an autonomous operation system for small ships at low cost.
