A proper model of expert system for the very thin sheet metal press die design has been suggested. Using the suggested model, an expert system of the very thin sheet metal press die has been developed. This study contains that the results from the developed system for three kinds of specimens have the adaptability in the actual site. In addition, the possibility for expansion of this system has been discussed. The developed system, which is based on the knowledge base, has been included in a lot of expert's technology in the practice field. C-language under the HP-UNIX system and CIS customer language of the EXCESS CAD/CAM system have been used as the overall CAD environment. Results from this system will provide effective aids to the designer in this field.
In axisymmetric tube reducing process for thin sheet metal tubes, the reduction ration of diameter is an important factor in the process design. For very thin sheet metal tubes, tube reducing cannot be successfully employed due to wrinkling of the edge portion of a tube as well as due to buckling of its rest portion. In the present study, thin sheet metal tubes are subjected to internal pressure during the tube reducing process in order to increase the forming limits. Analysis is made for the sound flow deformation in nonsteady tube reducing considering the normal anisotropy. Experiments are carried out for brass tubes. The present study is shown to give an effective guide line in designing the tube reducing process for very thin-walled sheet metal tubes. Hpwever, it is suggested that an analysis for instability should be made to design the process more effectively.
The present study examined the characteristics of high speed welding thin metal sheet using single mode fiber laser of averaged maximum output power 300 W. Due to the fiber laser that has a good quality of beam can make a very small focusing beam size, thin metal sheet welding and high speed key hole welding can be peformed by high power density.
The bifurcation problem of thin walled structures in contact with rigid surfaces is formulated by adopting the multiple scales asymptotic technique. The general theory developed in this paper is very useful for the bifurcation analysis of waviness instabilities in the sheet metal forming. The formulation is presented in a full Lagrangian formulation. Through this general formulation, the bifurcation functional is derived within an error of O($(E^4)$) (E: shell's thickness parameter). This functional can be used in numerical solutions to sheet metal forming instability problem.
The wrinkling behavior of a thin sheet with perfect geometry is a kind of compressive instability. The compressive instability is influenced by many factors such as stress state mechanical properties of the sheet material geometry of the body contact conditions and plastic anisotropy. The analysis of compressive instability in plastically deforming body is difficult considering all the factors because the effects of the factors are very complex and the instability behavior may show wide variation for small deviation of the factors. In this study the bifurcation theory is introduced for the finite element analysis of puckering initiation and growth of a thin sheet with perfect geometry. All the above mentioned analysis and the post-bifurcation behavior is analyzed by introducing the branching scheme proposed by Riks. The finite element formulation is based on the incremental deformation theory and elastic-plastic material modeling. in order to investigate the effect of plastic anisotropy on the compressive instability a square plate that is subjected to compression in one direction and tension in the other direction is analyzed by the above-mentionedfinite element analysis. The critical stress ratios above which the buckling does not take place are found for various plastic anisotropic modeling method and discussed. Finally the effect of plastic anisotropy on the puckering behavior in the spherical cup deep drawing process is investigated.
Incremental sheet metal forming is a manufacturing process to produce thin parts using sheet metals by a series of small incremental deformation. The process rarely needs dedicated dies and molds, thus, preparation time for the process is relatively short as to be compared to conventional metal forming. Spring back in sheet metal working is very common, which causes critical errors in dimensions. Incremental sheet metal forming is not fully investigated yet. Hence, incremental sheet metal forming frequently produces inaccurate parts. This paper proposes a method to minimize dimensional errors to improve shape accuracy of products manufactured by incremental forming. This study conducts experiments using an exclusive incremental forming machine and the material for these experiments are sheets of aluminum AL1015. This research defines a process parameter and selects a few factors for the experiments. The parameters employed in this paper are tool feed rate, tool diameter, step depth, material thickness, forming method, dies applied, and tool path method. In addition, their levels for each factor are determined. The plan of the experiments is designed using orthogonal array $L_8$ ($2^7$) which requires minimum number of experiments. Based on the measurements, dimensional errors are collected both on the tool contacted surfaces and on the non-contacted surfaces. The distances between the formed surfaces and the CAD models are scanned and recorded using a commercial software product. These collected data are statistically analyzed and ANOVAs (analysis of variances) are drawn up. From the ANOVAs, this paper concludes that the process parameters of tool diameter, forming depth, and forming method are the significant factors to reduce the errors on the tool contacted surface. On the other hand, the experimental factors of forming method and dies applied are the significant factors on the non-contacted surface. However, the negative forming method always produces better accuracy than the positive forming method.
To improve the shortcomings and expand the advantages of the single-roll melt drag method, which is a type of continuous strip casting method, the melt drag method with a molding belt is applied to AZ31 magnesium alloy. By attaching the forming belt to the melt drag method, the cooling condition of the thin plate is improved, making it possible to manufacture thin plates even at high roll speed of 100 m/min or more. In addition, it is very effective for continuous production of thin plates to suppress oxidation of the molten metal on the roll contact surface by selecting the protective gas. As a result of investigating the relationship between the contact time between the molten metal and the roll and the thickness of the sheet, it is possible to estimate the thickness of the sheet from the experimental conditions. The relationship between the thin plate thickness and the grain size is one in which the thinner the thin plate is, the faster the cooling rate of the thin plate is, resulting in finer grain size. The contact state between the molten metal and the roll greatly affects the grain size, and the minimum average grain size is 72 ㎛. The thin plate produced using this experimental equipment can be rolled, and the rolled sample has no large cracks. The tensile test results show a tensile strength of 303 MPa.
An investigation was carried out to determine the effect of the thickness of the air-gap installed between the roof metal sheet and the headliner on booming noise in passenger cars. In addition, a way of offering quieter driving condition to drivers and passengers was studied. It was found that a very thin air-gap corresponding to approximately 3/100 of the height of the passenger compartment causes noticeable change in the coupled resonance frequencies and acoustic responses. Furthermore, a guideline is proposed for determining an optimal air-gap thickness during design stage of the air-gap beneath the roof metal sheet for reducing booming noise.
Recently, Very Large Scale Integrated (VLSI) circuit & deep-submicron bulk Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor(CMOS) devices require gate electrode materials such as metal-silicide, Titanium-silicide for gate oxides. Many previous authors have researched the improvement sub-micron gate oxide quality. However, few have reported on the electrical quality and reliability on the ultra thin gate oxide. In this paper, at first, I recommand a novel shallow trench isolation structure to suppress the corner metal-oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor(MOSFET) inherent to shallow trench isolation for sub 0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gate oxide. Different from using normal LOCOS technology deep-submicron CMOS devices using novel Shallow Trench Isolation(STI) technology have a unique"inverse narrow-channel effects"-when the channel width of the devices is scaled down, their threshold voltage is shrunk instead of increased as for the contribution of the channel edge current to the total channel current as the channel width is reduced. Secondly, Titanium silicide process clarified that fluorine contamination caused by the gate sidewall etching inhibits the silicidation reaction and accelerates agglomeration. To overcome these problems, a novel Two-step Deposited silicide(TDS) process has been developed. The key point of this process is the deposition and subsequent removal of titanium before silicidation. Based on the research, It is found that novel STI structure by the SEM, in addition to thermally stable silicide process was achieved. We also obtained the decrease threshold voltage value of the channel edge. resulting in the better improvement of the narrow channel effect. low sheet resistance and stress, and high threshold voltage. Besides, sheet resistance and stress value, rms(root mean square) by AFM were observed. On the electrical characteristics, low leakage current and trap density at the Si/SiO$_2$were confirmed by the high threshold voltage sub 0.1${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ gate oxide.

Indium Tin Oxide (ITO) thin films are used as the Transparent Conducting Oxide (TCO), such as flat panel display, transparent electrodes, solar cell, touch screen, and various optical devices. ZnO has attracted attention as alternative materials to ITO film due to its resource availability, low cost, and good transmittance at the visible region. Recently, very thin film deposition is important. In order to minimize the damage caused by bending. However, ZnO thin film such as Ga-doped ZnO(GZO) has poor sheet resistance characteristics. To solve this problem, By adding the conductive metal on films can decrease the sheet resistance and increase the mobility of the films. In this study, We analyzed the electrical and optical characteristics of GZO/Ag/GZO (GAG) films by change in Ag and GZO thickness.
