  • A recent argument of network neutrality is converted by the differentiation of transmission and cost adjustment. However, It is raised that this phenomenon caused strategy for vertical integration operator to exclude a competitive operator. This study analyzed a number of instances about differentiation of transmission of ISP and problems of ISP that vertical integration in IX markets. The result of research, differentiation of transmission increased service differentiation about application programs used a best effort network like OTT or Smart TV. But this study was analyzed that a related law was vague for solving this issue. Besides, ISPs that is vertical integrated and commercial operated in an IX market discriminated competitive services, and this phenomenon can be proceeded plainly and orginated in an issue of a related law.

  • The objective of this study is three-fold: to investigate the relationship between information technology (IT) investment and inventory turnover, using 98 U.S. firms spanning eleven years (from 1999 to 2009); to analyze the correlation of inventory turnover with firm and industry characteristics, where vertical integration and growth options are chosen to reflect the features of the firm's internal characteristics, and industry dynamism and industry concentration are selected to represent the industry's competitive environment; and to examine time trends in inventory turnover. The significant findings include the following: (i) both IT investment and growth options have a positive impact on inventory turnover; (ii), but vertical integration and industry concentration have a negative impact on inventory turnover; (iii) the impact of industry dynamism on inventory turnover positive; and (iv) the time trends in inventory turnover and 'adjusted inventory turnover' have been increased during the sample period from 1999 to 2009.

  • In order to maintain high level of control over and close coordination of foreign marketing activities, export manufacturers often consider vertical integration strategy into global distribution. However, full integration is not always a feasible option. The purpose of this study is to investigate the alternative ways to achieve optimal level of control over export channel system for desirable channel performance. This study investigates different options for integration of the vertical channel structure, and examines their effect on the performance. The findings of this study suggest different combination of ownership and coordination level has varying impact upon channel performance: efficiency, effectiveness, and adaptiveness. This implies exporters may achieve desirable performance control over export channel without fully integrating the channel via ownership.

  • This study sought to look at why Facebook and Twitter, which have dominated the social media market, are moving away from other services. To this end, we sought to identify the causes of churn in terms of firm-level strategic direction and resource allocation, which have not been actively presented to the studies. For this purpose, this study divides the social media firm's strategies into horizontal expansion strategy and vertical integration strategy based on the existing reports and researches, and how each of the representative firms' strategies affects users' switching behavior. As a result, there was a significant difference in the strategic direction of the social media firm, when a horizontal expansion strategy is taken, user's switching intention is higher than when a vertical integration strategy is taken. In addition, the switching intention according to the level of dependence showed that the lower the dependence on social media, the higher the intention to switch to other media. The findings are expected to provide highly realistic and concrete strategic alternatives for a variety of economic actors, such as individuals and companies who want to do business using social media.

  • In this work, we demonstrate a novel compact mechanical beam steering transmitter based on a direct vertical integration of a 2-D MEMS-based mechanical beam steering antenna with a VCO on a single silicon platform. By eliminating the long feed lines and waveguide metal blocks, the radiation pattern has been improved vastly, resulting in an almost ideal pattern at every scan angle. The losses incurred by the feed lines and phase shifters are also eliminated, which allows the transmitter to be implemented using only a single VCO. The system complexity has been greatly reduced with a total module size of only 1.5 cm ${\times}$ 1.5 cm ${\times}$ 0.4 cm. This work demonstrates that RF MEMS can be a key enabling technology for high-level integration.

  • As a versatile processing method for nanoscale memory integration, laser-induced epitaxial growth is proposed for the fabrication of vertical Si channel (VSC) transistor. The fabricated VSC transistor with 80 nm gate length and 130 nm pillar diameter exhibited field effect mobility of $300cm^2/Vs$, which guarantees "device quality". In addition, we have shown that this VSC transistor provides memory operations with a memory window of 700 mV, and moreover, the memory window further increases by employing charge trap dielectrics in our VSC transistor. Our proposed processing method and device structure would provide a promising route for the further scaling of state-of-the-art memory technology.

  • The increasing integration of public space and consumerism in Hong Kong has yielded new urban forms. The emergent vertical malls in Hong Kong and other East Asian metropolises have overturned the existing vertical order of the city. This vertical order is determined by the level of accessibility, but is being challenged by widely adopted vertical circulation technology. Inspired by Fredric Jameson's and Rem Koolhaas' reflections on the cultural significance of vertical transportation, this article examines the conflict between market logic and urban design requirements in the vertical interior spaces. "Departmentalization," as the current programming formula for vertical malls, can be further optimized by critically applying urban design doctrines such as Kevin Lynch's five elements of city image. It concludes with a statement that the knowledge base of vertical urbanism should be open to a set of new terminology informed by a new technological environment.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of sensory integration therapy and home program intervention on the visual attention of children with Down syndrome. Methods : This study used a single subject design for one child with Down syndrome, Sensory integrated treatment intervention was conducted once a week for 16 weeks, and home programs were conducted four times a week for 16 weeks. Changes in visual attention were measured after intervention in the target child. Results : After the intervention, the average values of object gaze, object horizontal pursuit, and object vertical pursuit time increased compared with the baseline period. In object gaze, object horizontal pursuit, and object vertical pursuit, a section higher than the ±2 standard deviation of the baseline period was observed during the intervention period. Conclusion : This study confirmed that the combination of sensory integrated therapy and home program intervention improved visual attention and visual perception in children with Down syndrome, and it is meaningful that it presented an effective intervention method.

  • Vertical earthquake ground motion may magnify vertical dynamic responses of structures, and thus cause serious damage to bridges. As main support structures, piers and bearings play an important role in vertical seismic response analysis of girder bridges. In this study, the pier and bearing are simplified as a vertical series spring system without mass. Then, based on the assumption of small displacement, the equation of motion governing the simply-supported straight girder bridge under vertical ground motion is established including effects of vertical deformation of support structures. Considering boundary conditions, the differential quadrature method (DQM) is applied to discretize the above equation of motion into a MDOF (multi-degree-of-freedom) system. Then seismic responses of this MDOF system are calculated by a step-by-step integration method. Effects of support structures on vertical dynamic responses of girder bridges are studied under different vertical strong earthquake motions. Results indicate that support structures may remarkably increase or decrease vertical seismic responses of girder bridges. So it is of great importance to consider effects of support structures in structural seismic design of girder bridges in near-fault region. Finally, optimization of support structures to resist vertical strong earthquake motions is discussed.

  • This paper presents vertical carbon nanotube (CNT) field effect transistors (FETs). For the first time, the author successfully fabricated vertical CNT-based FETs on an anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) template by using atomic layer deposition (ALD). Single walled CNTs were vertically grown and aligned with the vertical pores of an AAO template. By using ALD, a gate oxide material (Al2O3) and a gate metal (Au) were centrally located inside each pore, allowing the vertical CNTs grown in the pores to be individually gated. Characterizations of the gated/vertical CNTs were carried and the successful gate integration with the CNTs was confirmed.
