The purpose of the this paper is experimentally to investigate flexural behavior of slabs with suspending the deck plate. The main experimental parameters are the depth and thickness of the deck plate, slab span, rebar and support conditions. Total number of six specimens were tested and manufactured in slabs under vertical load. Based on the results of the test, the flexural behavior for slabs is determined according to the vertical deformation of the slabs, regardless of the main experimental parameters. Bending rebar reinforcement in the rib cross-section specimens can be evaluated significantly higher initial stiffness, crack stiffness and flexural strength. Result of the comparison of the theory value appeared to be fairly well matched to average 1.05.
This paper summarizes the experimental study of the shear behaviour of Hybrid Fibre Reinforced Concrete (HFRC) beams retrofitted by using externally bonded Glass Fibre Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) laminates. To attain the set-out objectives of the present investigation, steel fibre of 1% and polypropylene fibre of 0.30% was used for hybrid steel-polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete: whereas for hybrid glass-polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete, glass fibre by 0.03% and polypropylene fibre of 0.03% by volume of concrete was used. In this study, 9 numbers of beams were cast and tested into three groups (Group I, II & III). Each group containing 3 numbers of beams, out of which one serve as a control beam or a hybrid steel-polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete beam or a hybrid glass - polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete beam and the remaining two beams were preloaded until shear cracks appeared up to 75% of ultimate load and then preloaded beams (damaged beams) were retrofitted with GFRP laminates at shear zone in the form of strips, as one beam in vertical position and another beam in inclined position to restrict the shear cracks. Finally, the retrofitted beams were loaded until failure and test results were compared. The experimental tests have been conducted to investigate various parameters of structural performance, such as load carrying capacity, crack pattern and failure modes, load-deflection responses and ductility relations. The test results revealed that beams retrofitted using GFRP laminates considerably increased the load carrying capacity. In addition, it was found that beams retrofitted with inclined strip offers superior performance than vertical one. Comparing the test results, it was observed that hybrid steel-polypropylene fibre reinforced concrete beam retrofitted with GFRP laminates showed enhanced behaviour as compared to other tested beams.
In the applications of rock mechanics or rock engineering including drill and blast, drilling and mechanical excavation, the fracture toughness is an important factor. Several methods have been proposed to measure the fracture toughness of rocks. In this study, wedge splitting test specimen which is prepared with ease and tested under compression loading was used to obtain mode I fracture toughness of rocks. The equation of stress intensity factor through numerical analysis is proposed from the stress state of crack tip considering both vertical and horizontal loads due to the vertical load acting on the wedge. The validity of the wedge splitting test method was confirmed by comparing the mode I fracture toughness values obtained by the GD and SENB test specimens.

Since railway bridge frequently have a chance of passing train load close to design load, it is necessary to reflect sufficiently fatigue property in early design phase for many structural details. Nevertheless fatigue cracks are reported partly in deck plate girder of railway steel bridge because of the weight and arrangement of axial load acting on railway bridge, the application of improper structural details for fatigue problem etc.. One of main cause for fatigue crack at the welded part of upper flange and web is caused by the eccentricity action of train load due to the difference of center to center spacing between the main girder supporting sleeper and the rail acting train load. For the existing deck plate girder of railway steel bridge, in this study, field survey, field measurement and a series of structural analysis were performed. In addition, the characteristics of structural behavior, the causes and repair/ retrofit of fatigue crack were examined in the target bridge.

This study is investigation of the characteristics for acoustic emission signal generated by destruction on glass fiber bundles and specimen that was machined composite materials surrounding the outside of GFRP cylinder. The Amplitude of acoustic emission signal gets bigger as the cutting angle of knife increases. Accordingly, the number of hits in destruction of composite materials specimen have more in longitudinal direction (longitudinal direction to the glass fiber) than in hoop direction (horizontal direction to the glass fiber) while the amplitude of signals were bigger in hoop direction than longitudinal direction. It was found out that the amplitude of the glass fiber breakage is more than 40 dB and that the amplitude of signal for matrix crack was less than 40 dB because matrix crack signal was not observed when threshold value is 40 dB and matrix crack signal suddenly appered when threshold value is 32 dB. The slope of the amplitude is related to the acoustic emission source and the slope of the amplitude of the horizontal and vertical directions are 0.16 and 0.08. In particular, The slope of the amplitude of longitudinal direction breakage appear similar to the glass fiber breakage and therefore Acoustic emission source of longitudinal direction breakage is estimated the glass fiber breakage.
The Unhyungung Water Container in the possession of the Seoul Museum of History in Korea is consisted of a calcareous marble developed laminated bedding and numerous argillaceous veinlets. This monument should need to conservation treatment because of black discoloration and seriously numerous cracks. Vertical and horizontal cracks in the monument are developed following stratification and argillaceous veinlets that are relatively low coherence between the rock materials. We have proved that the material inducing discoloration on the surface is carbon which is formed by deposited organic matters. As the result of the ultrasonic measurements, although highly surface weathering degree, the physical properties of the Unhyungung Water Container is confirmed slightly weathered state. The depths of cracks in the monument are calculated at maximum 60mm in some cracks completely penetrating into the wall and at minimum 9mm in the other crack. The cracks, developed following veinlet, are revealed that there penetrate from an outer wall to an inside wall for the monument. And most depths of cracks, developed following stratification, are calculated 20 to 30mm. This result will offer a significant data for conservation of the Unhyungung Water Container.
The purpose of this study was to examine the fracture strength and characteristics of teeth with MOD cavity preparation. Freshly extracted sound maxillary premolars were cleaned and stored in normal saline solution $37^{\circ}C$ for 72 hours before experiments. The roots of teeth were embedded in a self-curing resin, and the exposed crown were maintained in a vertical position by a modelling wax in a brass ring. The MOD cavities were prepared with No. 57 carbide bur under high speed to a depth of 2.0mm and a width of 2.0mm(Fig.1). All the prepared teeth specimens were divided into 7 groups according to the mode of cavity form and restorative materials (Table 1, 2): Group I, unpreapred, intact teeth as control Group II, prepared cavity without restoration Group III, prepared teeth restored with amalgam Group IV, prepared teeth restored with composite resin (P-10) Group V, prepared teeth with beveled enamel margins restored with composite resin (P-10) Group VI, prepared teeth restored with light-cured composite resin (P-30) Group VII, prepard teeth with beveled enamel margins restored with light-cured composite resin (P-30) After placement of restorations, all of the specimens were stored in water at $37^{\circ}C$ for 72 hours before testing. All of the specimens were tested on the Instron Universal Testing machine (No. 6025) in order to evaluate the strength of fracture. One metal ball 5.0mm in diameter contacting the specimens parallel to the occlusal surface was used to in this study (Fig. 1). The fracture characteristics of the specimens were examined with naked eye and in the scanning electron microscope (JSM-20). The results obtained from this study were as follows: 1. The mean fracture strength was the highest in group VI and that in group II was the lowest. 2. The progress of crack of teeth propagated into the pulp cavity. 3. In case of the group of the restored teeth, the crack occurred to be accompanied with cuspal fracture. 4. The crack of restored teeth was initiated along the pulpo-axial line angle of the cavity.
The resistance to fracture of the restored tooth may be influenced by many factors, among these are the cavity dimension and the physical properties of the restorative material. The placement of direct composite resin restorations has generally been found to have a strengthening effect on the prepared teeth. It is the purpose of this investigation to study the relationship between the cavity isthmus and the fracture resistance of a tooth in composite resin restorations. In this study, MO cavity was prepared on the maxillary left first molar and then filled with composite resin. Three dimentional model with 3049 nodes and 2450 8-node blick elements was made by the serial photographic method and isthmus (1/4, 1/3, 1/2 and 2/3 of intercusplal distance between mesiobuccal cusp tip and mesiolingual cusp tip) was varied. Two types of model(B and R model) were developed. B model was assumed perfect bonding between the restoration and cavity wall and R model was left unfilled. A load of 1500N was applied vertically on the node from the lingual slope of the mesiobuccal cusp. The results were as follows : 1. There was a significant decrease of stress resulting in increase of fracture resistance in B model when compared with R model. 2. When it comes to stress distribution, the stress was concentrated in the facio-gingival line angle and the buccal side of the distal margin of the cavity in both Band R model. 3. With the increase of the isthmus width, the stress decreased in the area of the facio-gingival line angle, and increased in the area of facio-gingival line angle as well as the buccal side of the distal margin of the cavity in B model. In R model, the stress increased both in the area of facio-gingival line angle and the buccal side of the distal margin of the cavity, therefore the possibility of crack increased. 4. As the width of cavity increased, in B model, the direction of crack moved from horizontal to vertical on the facio-gingival line angle and the facio-pulpal line angle. In R model, the direction of the crack was horizontal on the facio-gingival line angle and moved from horizontal to the $45^{\circ}$ direction on the facio-pulpal line angle.

An experimental study to evaluate bursting behavior in anchorage zone of the standard PSC I girders (span length : 30 m) has been carried out. The arrangement of bursting reinforcement in anchorage zone of the standard PSC I girders is considered to be designed without accurately reflecting the stress flows in the end zone of the PSC I girders caused by presstressing forces of the tendons. Also, due to excessive arrangement of the bursting bars, the workability of the girder is decreased greatly. In this study, three specimens with the same dimensions as the end zone of the standard PSC I girder are prepared and the experiment is carried out by applying PS forces. The bursting reinforcement of each specimen consists of 100 mm, 200 mm, and 300mm spacings, respectively. The experimental results show that the range of the PS forces to cause crack in the anchorage zone of the specimen are more than 1.6 times of the design PS forces. The bursting cracks occur in the vertical direction on the inside of all specimens. After applying 2.7 times of the design PS force, some of the transverse bursting reinforcements only in the specimen reinforced by 300 mm spacing yielded. The experimental results show that the anchorage zone of the standard PSC I girders arranged by 300 mm spacing of the bursting reinforcements which is the maximum spacing allowed in the road bridge design specifications, can be considered safe enough.
Current Design Codes for Reinforced Concrete (RC) interior beam-column joints are based on limited experimental studies on the seismic behavior of eccentric joints. To supplement existing information, an experimental study was conducted that focused on the effect of eccentricity of the deeper beams with respect to the shallow beams. A total of eight one-third scale interior joints with beams of different depths were subjected to reverse cyclic loading. The primary variables in the test specimens were the amount of joint transverse reinforcement and the cross section of the shallow beams. The overall performance of each test assembly was found to be unsatisfactory in terms of joint shear strength, stiffness, energy dissipation and shear deformation. The results indicated that the vertical eccentricity of spandrel beams in this type of joint led to lower capacity in joint shear strength and severe damage of concrete in the joint core. Increasing the joint shear reinforcement was not effective to alter the failure mode from joint shear failure to beam yielding which is favorable for earthquake resistance design, whereas it was effective to reduce the crack width at the small loading stages. Based on the observed behavior, the shear stress of the joint core was suggested to be kept as low as possible for a safe and practical design of this type of joint.
