Purpose : The vertex scalp is always tangentially irradiated during total skin electron beam(TSEB) This study was discuss to the dose distribution at the vertex scalp and to evaluate the use of an electron reflector. positioned above the head as a means of improving the dose uniformity. Methods and Materials Vetex dosimetry was performed using ion-chamber and TLD. Measurements were 6 MeV electron beam obtained by placing an acrylic beam speller in the beam line. Studies were performed to investigate the effect of electron scattering on vertex dose when a lead reflector $40{\times}40cm$ in area, was positioned above the phantom. Results : The surface dose at the vertex, in the without of the reflector was found to be less than $37.8\%$ of the skin dose. Use of the lead reflector increased this value to $62.2\%$ for the 6 MeV beam. Conclusion : The vertex may be significantly under-dosed using standard techniques for total skin electron beam. Use of an electron reflector improves the dose uniformity at the vertex and may reduce or eliminate the need for supplemental irradiation.
Up-front irradiation technique as 3-dimensional conformation, or intensity modulation has kept large proportion of brain tumors from being complicated with acute radiation reactions in the normal tissue during or shortly after radiotherapy. For years, we've cannot help but counting on 2-D vertex beam technique to reduce acute reactions in the brain tumor patients because we're not equipped with 3-dimensional planning system. We analyzed its advantages and limitations in the clinical application. From 1998 to 2001, vertex or oblique vertex beams were applied to 35 patients with primary brain tumor and 25 among them were eligible for this analysis. Vertex(V) plans were optimized on the reconstructed coronal planes. As the control, we took the bilateral opposed techniques(BL) otherwise being applied. We compared the volumes included in 105% to 50% isodose lines of each plan. We also measured the radiation dose at various extracranial sites with TLD. With vertex techniques, we reduced the irradiated volumes of contralateral hemisphere and prevented middle ear effusion at contralateral side. But the low dose volume increased outside 100%; the ratio of V to BL in irradiated volume included in 100%, 80%, 50% was 0.55+/-0.10, 0.61+/-0.10, and 1.22+/-0.21, respectively. The hot area within 100% isodose line almost disappeared with vertex plan; the ratio of V to BL in irradiated volume included in 103%, 105%, 108% was 0.14+/-0.14, 0.05./-0.17, 0.00, respectively. The dose distribution within 100% isodose line became more homogeneous; the ratio of volume included in 103% and 105% to 100% was 0.62+/-0.14 and 0.26+/-0.16 in BL whereas was 0.16+/-0.16 and 0.02+/-0.04 in V. With the vertex techniques, extracranial dose increased up to $1{\sim}3%$ of maximum dose in the head and neck region except submandibular area where dose ranged 1 to 21%. From this data, vertex beam technique was quite effective in reduction of unnecessary irradiation to the contralateral hemispheres, integral dose, obtaining dose homogeneity in the clinical target. But it was associated with volume increment of low dose area in the brain and irradiation toward the head and neck region otherwise being not irradiated at all. Thus, this 2-D vertex technique can be a useful quasi-conformal method before getting 3-D apparatus.
This paper describes the formulation of rectangular flat shell element that is modeled with the six degree of freedoms including a rotational degree of freedom. The rectangular finite element matrix with a rotational degree of freedom is developed using a beam stiffness matrix and compared with other methods. The outputs of the quantity of vertical deflection of cantilever beam show us the improving evidence of the Frame-Shell finite element matrix in a calculation of vertical deflections of cantilever beam.

The maximum dose delivery at the end of the beam range provides the main advantage of using proton therapy. The range of the proton beam, however, is subject to uncertainties, which limit the clinical benefits of proton therapy and, therefore, accurate in vivo verification of the beam range is desirable. For the beam range verification in spot scanning proton therapy, a prompt gamma detection system, called as gamma electron vertex imaging (GEVI) system, is under development and, in the present study, the performance of the GEVI system in spot scanning proton therapy was predicted with Geant4 Monte Carlo simulations in terms of shift detection sensitivity, accuracy and precision. The simulation results indicated that the GEVI system can detect the interfractional range shifts down to 1 mm shift for the cases considered in the present study. The results also showed that both the evaluated accuracy and precision were less than 1-2 mm, except for the scenarios where we consider all spots in the energy layer for a local shifting. It was very encouraging results that the accuracy and precision satisfied the smallest distal safety margin of the investigated beam energy (i.e., 4.88 mm for 134.9 MeV).

In proton therapy, a highly conformal proton dose can be delivered to the tumor by means of the steep distal dose penumbra at the end of the beam range. The proton beam range, however, is highly sensitive to range uncertainty, which makes accurately locating the proton range in the patient difficult. In-vivo range verification is a method to manage range uncertainty, one of the promising techniques being prompt gamma imaging (PGI). In earlier studies, we proposed gamma electron vertex imaging (GEVI), and constructed a proof-of-principle system. The system successfully demonstrated the GEVI imaging principle for therapeutic proton pencil beams without scanning, but showed some limitations under clinical conditions, particularly for pencil beam scanning proton therapy. In the present study, we upgraded the GEVI system in several aspects and tested the performance improvements such as for range-shift verification in the context of line scanning proton treatment. Specifically, the system showed better performance in obtaining accurate prompt gamma (PG) distributions in the clinical environment. Furthermore, high shift-detection sensitivity and accuracy were shown under various range-shift conditions using line scanning proton beams.

A frame element embedded normal to a shear wall or slab (shell element) is common in the structural systems. In that case there is a need for a membrane or shell element to have a normal rotation degree of freedom at each node in order to have a good result of stresses. Even if Many other people studied this area, All man, Cook and Sabir are representative investigators in this area. In this research paper, Sabir's methods of vertex rotation stiffness matrix in a membrane element are studied. New stiffness of vertex rotation are proposed by taking advantage of beam stiffness theory. Rectangular elements stiffness with rotational degree of freedom are compared in accuracy ratio each other.

The purpose of this study was to research the property change of acrylic resins depending on the induced-beam change and research the improved physical property of dry-heat and microwave-cured dental place acrylic resin in order to develop the acrylic resins with the optimum characteristic. As a result of observing flexural rigidity, hardness and color difference, the dry-heat-cured specimens of Vertex RS and Paladent 20 showed ideal property at 5, 15, and 25 kGy irradiation. The microwave-cured specimens of Vertex RS and Paladent 20 showed ideal property at 5 kGy irradiation. The correlation analysis showed a positive correlation among ARD, flexural rigidity (0 418), E coefficient (0.675) and Barcol hardness (0 588). The radiation cure technology is helpful for relieving the contamination caused by the manufacture of polymer composite. It can significantly contribute to the fusion of ultra violet cure technology and nano technology and the improvement of mechanical property without giving effect to the workability of polymer.
Total Skin Electron Beam Therapy (TSEBT) is one of the most effective treatment methods for superficially disseminated skin cancer or cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. We have treated a patient with cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. We have used Stanford technique using six dual field. The nominal energy of electron beam was 4MeV. SSD was 390cm and the gantry angles of dual fields were 76$^{\circ}$ and 104$^{\circ}$. The dose profiles of single field and dual fields were measured with films and a Farmer type ion chamber. The field uniformity was 10% over the patient's surface. During treatment, the patient was placed in six different positions for homogenous dose distribution over the body surface. The areas not directly exposed to the path of the electron beam (soles of feet, perineum and vertex of scalp) were boosted with 7MeV electron beam. During the treatment, lens, fingernails and toenails were shielded.

Recently, a new imaging method, gamma vertex imaging (GVI), was proposed for the verification of in-vivo proton dose distribution. In GVI, the vertices of prompt gammas generated by proton induced nuclear interaction were determined by tracking the Compton-recoiled electrons. The GVI system is composed of a beryllium electron converter for converting gamma to electron, two double-sided silicon strip detectors (DSSDs) for the electron tracking, and a scintillation detector for the energy determination of the electron. In the present study, the modules of a charge sensitive preamplifier (CSP) and a shaping amplifier for the analog signal processing of DSSD were developed and the performances were evaluated by comparing the energy resolutions with those of the commercial products. Based on the results, it was confirmed that the energy resolution of the developed CSP module was a little lower than that of the CR-113 (Cremat, Inc., MA), and the resolution of the shaping amplifier was similar to that of the CR-200 (Cremat, Inc., MA). The value of $V_{rms}$ representing the magnitude of noise of the developed system was estimated as 6.48 keV and it was confirmed that the trajectory of the electron can be measured by the developed system considering the minimum energy deposition ( > ~51 keV) of Compton-recoiled electron in 145-${\mu}m$-thick DSSD.

This paper presents a finite element formulation for the three-dimensional hierarchical solid element using Integrals of Legendre polynomials. The proposed hexahedral solid element is composed of four different modes including vertex, edge, face, and internal mode, respectively. The eigenvalue and patch test have been carried out to confirm the zero-energy mode and constant strain condition. In addition to these, a posteriori error estimation has been studied for the p-adaptive finite element analysis that is based on a smoothing technique to compute a post-processed solution from the finite element solution. The uniform p-refinement and non-uniform p-refinement are compared in terms of convergence rate as the number of degree of freedom is increased. The simple cantilever beam is tested to show the performance of the proposed solid element.
