In the concurrent engineering, the CAD-based design model is necessary for multidisciplinary analysis and for computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). A shape and configuration design velocity field computation of structure has been developed using a computer-aided design (CAD) tool, Pro/ENGINEER. The design Parameterization with CAD tool is to characterize the change in dimensions and movements of geometric control points that govern the shape/orientation of the structural boundary. The boundary velocity is obtained by using a CAD-based finite difference method and the domain velocity field is obtained from finite element analysis (FEA) using the boundary displacement method. In this paper, the continuum configuration DSA for NVH problem, which requires the shape velocity field and the orientation velocity field at the same time, is developed using linear shape functions. For validation of continuum design sensitivity coefficients, design sensitivity coefficients are compared with the coefficients computed using by the finite difference method.

When a vehicle moves with a high rotation rate, it is not easy to measure the angular velocity using an off-the-shelf gyroscope. If the angular velocity is estimated using the extended Kalman filter in the gyro-free inertial navigation system, the effect of the accelerometer error and initial angular velocity error can be reduced. In this paper, in order to improve the navigation performance of the gyro-free inertial navigation system, an angular velocity estimation method is proposed based on an extended Kalman filter with an accelerometer random bias error model. In order to show the validity of the proposed estimation method, angular velocities and navigation outputs of a vehicle with 3 rev/s rotation rate are estimated. The results are compared with estimates by other methods such as the integration and an extended Kalman filter without an accelerometer random bias error model. The proposed method gives better estimation results than other methods.
Automobile industry, along with the automobile steering system, is rapidly changing and developing. The constant velocity joint transmits power to the wheels of vehicles without changing their angular velocity based on the movement of the steering wheel. Moreover, it controls their movement to act as a buffer. In order to prevent the excessive increase in temperature caused by the movement of vehicles, boots are attached to the constant velocity joint and lubricant is injected into the boots. The boots maintain the lubrication and protect the constant velocity joint from sand, water, and so on. As the wheels of the vehicle rotate, the boots are acted upon by forces such as bending, compression, and tension. Additionally, self-contact occurs to boots. Therefore, their durability deteriorates over time. To prevent this problem, polychloroprene rubber was initially used however, it was replaced by thermoplastic polyester elastomers due to their excellent fatigue durability. In this study, the structural analysis of boots was conducted. The results showed the deformation patterns of the boots based on the translation and rotation of the constant velocity joint. Moreover, it confirmed the location that was vulnerable to deformation. This study can be used to potentially design high-quality constant velocity joint boots.
The existing researches on the dynamics of the fluid-conveying pipes only focus on stability and vibration problems, and there is no literature report on the wave propagation of the fluid-conveying pipes. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to explore the propagation characteristics of longitudinal and flexural waves in the fluid-conveying pipes. First, it is assumed that the material properties of the fluid-conveying pipes vary based on a power function of the thickness. In addition, it is assumed that the material properties of both the fluid and the pipes are closely depended on temperature. Using the Euler-Bernoulli beam equation and based on the linear theory, the motion equations considering the thermal-mechanical-fluid coupling is derived. Then, the exact expressions of phase velocity and group velocity of longitudinal waves and bending waves in the fluid-conveying pipes are obtained by using the eigenvalue method. In addition, we also studied the free vibration frequency characteristics of the fluid-conveying pipes. In the numerical analysis, we successively studied the influence of temperature, functional gradient index and liquid velocity on the wave propagation and vibration problems. It is found that the temperature and functional gradient exponent decrease the phase and group velocities, on the contrary, the liquid flow velocity increases the phase and group velocities. However, for vibration problems, temperature, functional gradient exponent parameter, and fluid velocity all reduce the natural frequency.

Purpose : This study was aimed at determining the effects of community-based exercise program to improve leg muscle strength and balance for elderly women. Methods : This study was nonequivalent control group pre-post test design. Subjects were assigned to two different groups(exercise group=11, control group=7). Exercise group performed community-based exercise program for 8 weeks. Outcome measures included leg muscle strength, balance, walking velocity, activities of daily living(ADL), exercise self-efficacy and health-related quality of life(QoL). The collected data analyzed by independent t-test and paired t-test. Results : Leg muscle strength, walking velocity and mental component summary(QoL) were significantly improved in the exercise group. But balance and exercise self-efficacy were significantly worsened in the control group. There were no significant difference between groups after 8 weeks of community-based exercise. Conclusion : These results suggested that the community-based exercise program is effective for elderly women in improving leg muscle strength, walking velocity and mental component summary(QoL).

In image-based CFD modeling of carotid bifurcation hemodynamics, it is often not possible (or at least not convenient) to impose measured velocity profiles at the common carotid artery inlet. Instead, fully-developed velocity profiles are usually imposed based on measured flow rates. However, some studies reported a pronounced influence of inflow boundary conditions that were based on actual velocity profiles measured by magnetic resonance imaging which showing the unusual presence of a high velocity band in the middle of the vessel during early diastole inconsistent with a Dean-type velocity profile. We demonstrated that those velocity profiles were induced by the presence of modest secondary curvature of the inlet and set about to test whether such more "realistic" velocity profiles might indeed have a more pronounced influence on the carotid bifurcation hemodynamics. We found that inlet boundary condition with axisymmetric fully-developed velocity profile(Womersley flow) is reasonable as long as sufficient CCA inlet length of realistic geometry is applied.
Shear wave velocity (or shear modulus) of rock filled zone of CFRD is very important factor in the evaluation of performance of CFRD under the load such as earthquake. A shear wave velocity profile can be determined by surface wave method but this profile has been uncertainty caused by spatial variation of material property in rock filled zone. This uncertainty in shear wave velocity profile could be evaluated by the reliability based analysis which uses a coefficient of variation of material property to consider uncertainty caused by spatial variation of material property. In this paper, the possible 600 shear wave velocity profiles in rock filled zone of CFRD were generated using the method based on harmonic wavelet transform and 8 shear wave velocity profiles by HWAW method in the field, and the coefficients of variation of shear wave velocity with depth were evaluated for the rock filled zone of CFRD in Korea.

This paper presents a systematic method measuring a velocity disturbance to design the robust seek loop system of optical disk drives. The velocity disturbance caused by the rotation of a disk has a greater influence on the performance of the seek control loop as the rotational speed increases. Thus, it needs to measure the extent of the velocity disturbance and design the seek control loop based on the measured data. The measurement method of the velocity disturbance is a real-time . method using a measurable velocity and a velocity controller output and is a robust method considering actuator uncertainties. The loop gain adjustment algorithm is introduced to compensate for the actuator uncertainties. The proposed method is implemented by an experimental digital system and is evaluated through an experiment.
The correlation between black hole mass and galaxy stellar velocity dispersion gives an important clue on the black hole growth and galaxy evolution. In the case of AGN, however, it is extremely difficult to measure stellar velocity dispersions in the optical spectra since AGN continuum dilutes stellar absorption features. In contrast, stellar velocity dispersions of active galaxies can be measured in the near-IR, where AGN-to-star flux ratio is much smaller, particularly with the laser-guide-star adaptive optics. However, it is crucial to test whether the stellar velocity dispersion measured from the near-IR spectra is consistent with that measured from the optical spectra. Using the TripleSpec at the Palomar 5-m Telescope, we obtained high quality spectra ranging from 1 to 2.4 micron for a sample of 35 nearby galaxies, for which dynamical black hole masses and optical stellar velocity dispersion measurements are available, in order to calibrate the stellar velocity dispersion in the near-IR. In this poster, we present the initial results based on 10 galaxies, with the stellar velocity dispersion measured in the H-band.

This paper presents a strike velocity estimation using the recursive Bayesian filter that operates both correction and prediction models to probabilistically remove noises of sensors and accurately estimate the strike velocity during the real-time experiments. Four different types of bullets such as 5.56 mm M193, 7.62 mm M80, 5.45 mm 7N10 and 7.62 mm MSC were used to validate the proposed method. Compared to the existing method, the proposed method statistically results in higher stability of the strike velocity estimation as well as its reliability for the ballistic limit velocity computation.
