  • This paper describes frequency response and propagation characteristics considering semiconducting screen in distribution cables. In CIGRE WG 21-05, Simplified Approach(SA) and Rigorous Approach(RA) which can revise the permittivity considering semiconducting screen propose for more detailed EMTP model and frequency dependant analysis. In this paper, the frequency dependent characteristics of complex permittivity are variously analysed by cole-cole function of RA. The attenuation, propagation velocity and surge impedance according to frequency range(1 kHz to 500 MHz) and cable length are also analysed by SA and EMTP simulation in distribution cables. The propagation velocity considering semiconducting screen is slower, and it is saturated over the range of 1 MHz. The signal is significantly attenuated as frequency range is high.

  • Gas flow uniformity is an important factor to guarantee particle removal performance of electrostatic precipitators (EP), and the gas flow uniformity is evaluated by a fraction of standard deviation to the mean of gas flow distribution (%RMS) or a technical standard, ICAC EP-7, provided by The Institute of Clean Air Companies. In this study, relationship between the ICAC EP-7 and %RMS in evaluation of gas flow uniformity was investigated in terms of flow velocity. The maximum values of %RMS for gas velocity distribution of normal distribution has been obtained, and the maximum values of %RMS with gas velocity distribution satisfying ICAC EP-7 standards were also evaluated. With gas flow distribution obtained from CFD analysis and physical model test of real EP, %RMS values were calculated and it was tested if those gas flow distribution satisfy the criteria specified in ICAC EP-7. The %RMS values satisfying criteria of ICAC have been appeared to have similar values with %RMS values calculated with normal distribution of gas velocities.

  • In the present study, the velocity profiles and entrance length of developing transitional pulsating flows are investigated both analytically and experimentally in the entrance region of a square duct. The systems of conservation equations for transitional pulsating flows in a square duct are solved analytically by linearizing the non-linear convective terms. Analytical solutions are obtained in the form of infinite series for velocity pofiles. The experimental study for the air flow in a square duct(40mm*40mm*4000mm) is carried out to measure velocity profiles and other parameters by using a hot-wire anemometer with a data acquisition and processing system. The distribution of velocity profiles( $u_{ps}$ / $u_{m,ta}$) in the decelerating period is higher than in the accelerating period. The distribution of the axial component of the axial component of velocity in the transitional flow is nearly uniform in the central region of the duct, and decrease rapidly near the wall. The entrance length correlation of the transitional pulsating flows in a square duct is obtained to be $L_{e}$/ $D_{h}$=0.83 $A_{1}$R $e_{ta}$ /(.omega. sup+1)$^{2}$TEX>

  • Venturi tube is based on turbulent flow, whereby the microbubbles can be generated by the turbulent fragmentation. This phenomenon is common in several venturi bubblers used by the nuclear, aerospace and chemical industries. The first objective of this paper is to study the liquid-phase velocity field experimentally and develop correlations for the turbulent quantities. The second objective is to research velocity field characteristics theoretically. Stereoscopic PIV measurements for the velocity field have been analyzed and utilized to develop the turbulent kinetic energy in the venturi tube. The tracking properties of the tracer particles have been verified enough for us to analyze the turbulence field. The turbulence kinetic energy has a bimodal distribution trend. Also, the results of turbulence intensity along the horizontal direction is gradually uniform along the downstream. Both the mean velocity and the fluctuation velocity are proportional to the Reynolds number. Besides, the distribution trend of the mean velocity and the velocity fluctuation can be determined by the geometric parameters of the venturi tube. An analytical function model for the flow field has been developed to obtain the approximate analytical solutions. Good agreement is observed between the model predictions and experimental data.

  • This study is focussed on the investigation of spray characteristics from the high pressure gasoline injector for the application of gasoline direct injection engine. For the analysis of spray structure of high pressure gasoline injector; the laser scattering method with a Nd-Yag laser and the Phase Doppler particle analyzer system were applied to observe the spray development and the measurement of the droplet size and velocity of the spray, respectively. Also spatial velocity distribution of the spray droplet was measured by use of the particle image velocity system. Experimental results show that high pressure gasoline injector shapes the hollow-cone spray, and produce the upward ring shaped vortex on the spray surface region. This upward ring shaped vortex promotes the secondary atomization of fuel droplets and contributes to a uniform distribution of fuel droplets. Most of fuel droplets are distributed under 31$\mu m$ of the mean droplet size (SMD) and the frequency distribution of the droplet size under 25$\mu m$ is over 95% at 7 MPa of injection pressure. According to the experimental results of PIV system, the flow patterns of the droplets velocity distribution in spray region are in good agreement with the spray macroscopic behaviors obtained from the visualization investigation.

  • In electric cable industries, the curing extent of the rubber materials covering the electric cores gives an significant effect on their final performance. The curing extent of rubber is controlled mostly by pull-out velocity of cable in the extrusion process. The final curing extent may be different for different radial positions inside the rubber because of the non-uniform temperature distributions during the curing process. In this contribution, the prediction of curing extent distribution throughout the radial direction of rubber is represented when the cable is passing through the steam curing zone with a fixed pull-out velocity. The prediction of the optimum pull-out velocity for the desired curing extent distribution is also reported. The steady-state heat balance was developed for the curing and cooling processes in which the pull-out rubber was cured by high temperature steam and then cooled by ambient water. A few essential material properties such as density, specific heat, and thermal conductivity were measured to analyze the temperature distribution during the curing and cooling processes. The times to reach 90% curing extent at varying temperatures were measured and used to determine the final cure extent distribution inside the rubber.

  • In the design of catalytic converter, velocity distribution is more important than pressure drop because monolith pressure drop is about 80% of overall pressure drop. For the catalytic converter with single diffuser, pressure drop is decreased as the angle of diffuser decrease, but when the angle is below 18$^{\circ}$, the effect is almost negligible . For the catalytic converter with double diffuser, variation of the angle of the first diffuser shows the same trend as the pressure drop while the shape of diffuser gives little influence on that The outlet shape gives negligible effect on the pressure drop and velocity . distribution . Results show that recirculation region of commercial model is aoubt 30% of the total area in the front of monolith. For the catalytic converter with Model 11 that was presented in the study, recirculation region was not detected more uniform velocity distribution was obtained, and pressure drop was also decreased.

  • The flow at the top surface of the hopper is of particular industrial interest. Previously, the velocity distribution inside the hopper was predicted using the simple, void and spot models, which are equations for the particle flow field. However, because these equations cannot predict the velocity distribution at the top surface, a new equation has been recently proposed. This study employed the discrete element method with the changed shape of the particles. Based on the results, the shape of the particle had no effect on the discharge angle and shape of the velocity distribution; however, it greatly affected the size of the velocity distribution and bed thickness of the flowing particles. Therefore, in the future, it is necessary to modify the theoretical equation by considering the shape of the particles.

  • This paper discussed the validity of wind force power generation in consideration of the topographical characteristics of Korea. In order to estimate the exact generation of wind power plants, we analyzed and compared wind resources in mountain areas and plain areas by introducing not only wind velocity, the most important variable, but also wind distribution and wind standard deviation that can reflect the influence of landform sufficiently. According to the results of this study, generation was higher at wind power plants installed in southwestern coastal areas where wind velocity was low than at those installed in mountain areas in Gangwondo where wind velocity was high. This suggests that the shape parameter of wind distribution is low due to the characteristics of mountain areas. and the standard deviation of wind velocity is large due to the effect of mountain winds, and therefore, actual generation is low in mountain areas although wind velocity is high.

  • The flow characteristics of developing unsteady laminar flow in a square-sectional $180^{\circ}$ curved duct are experimentally investigated by using laser doppler velocimerty (LDV) system with data acquisition and processing system of rotating machinery resolver(RMR) and PHASE software. The major flow characteristics of developing laminar pulsating flows are presented by mean velocity profilel velocity distribution of secondary flow, wall shear stress distributions, entrance lengths according to dimensionless angular frequency($\omega^+$), velocity amplitude ratio($A^1$), and time-averaged Dean number($De_ta$). The velocity profiles and wall shear stress distribution of laminar pulsating flow with dimensionlessangular frequency show the flow characteristics of the quasi-steady laminar flow in a curved duct. The developing region of laminar pulsatile flows in a square-sectional $180^{\circ}$ curved duct is extended to the curved duct angle of approximately $120^{\circ}$ under the present experimental condition.
