We present high-resolution near-infrared host galaxy spectra of low-z quasars, PG0844+349 (z=0.064), PG1226+023 (z=0.158), and PG1426+015 (z=0.086). The observation was done by using the near-IR high resolution echelle spectrometer, IRCS, at the SUBARU 8.2 m telescope. The full width at half maximum of the point spread function was about 0.3 arcsec by using an Adaptive Optics system, which can effectively resolve the quasar spectra from the host galaxy spectra. The signal-to-noise ratios are increased by the total exposure time up to several hours per targets and the development of data reduction method. We compare our results to the stellar spectra library and sample spectra from Dasyra et al. (2007) and Watson et al. (2008). The identified spectral lines will be used to study the physical mechanism of quasars, and the velocity dispersions of the stars in the bulge of the host galaxy.

Recently, as the high-precision machinery industry has developed rapidly, peripheral equipment has been developed to improve machining efficiency. Peripheral equipment for machining includes cooling units, housings, oil separators, and much more. Oil, such as cleaning and cutting fluids, is used for machining. When waste oil is reused, the contamination of the workpieces and reduction in machining accuracy are generated by the waste oil, including sludge. Therefore, the development of an oil separator is necessary for efficiently separating oil, water, and sludge. The purpose of this study is to analyze the oil separation efficiency and flow characteristics of a high-speed centrifugal separator according to the rotation velocity and diffusion plate. The oil separation efficiency and flow characteristics were analyzed using hydrodynamic theory and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The results of this study will be used as basic data for the development of a high-speed centrifugal separator.

Background: Thera-Band, Narrow squats, Kinesiology taping helps in the reduction of loading on the knee joints. Despite the fact that the varus knee negatively affects the alignment of the lower extremities, most of the studies have analyzed each independently. Objectives: To investigate the effects of a complex exercise program consisting of elastic band exercises and squat exercises on the distance between the inner knees and balance in young adults with genu varum. Design: A cluster randomized controlled trial. Methods: The complex exercise group performed resistance exercises using an elastic band. The taping group used kinesiology tape on the vastus lateralis and biceps femoris. To select those to be included in the study, we measured the distance between the knees using digital Vernier calipers and to measure the balance ability, we used a balance training system. The data were analyzed with the independent t-test and paired t-test. Results: The study indicated a significant difference in the distance between the knees between the two groups, but no significant differences in the dynamic balance between the groups. Also, the static balance comparison between the groups according to the intervention method included the trace length, C90 area, C90 angle and velocity. There were no significant differences in the static balance between the groups. In addition, the complex exercise program was more effective than taping. Conclusion: The results of this study demonstrate that the complex exercise program and taping decrease the between both the knee and increase the balance.
The effects of Reynolds number on the non-nulling calibration of a typical cone-type five-hole probe have been investigated for the representative Reynolds numbers in turbomachinery. The pitch and yaw angles are changed from - 35 degrees to 35 degrees with an angle interval of 5 degrees at six probe Reynolds numbers in range between $6.60{\times}10^3\;and\;3.17{\times}10^4$. The result shows that not only each calibration coefficient itself but also its Reynolds number dependency is affected significantly by the pitch and yaw angles. The Reynolds-number effects on the pitch- and yaw-angle coefficients are noticeable when the absolute values of the pitch and yaw angles are smaller than 20 degrees. The static-pressure coefficient is sensitive to the Reynolds number nearly all over the pitch- and yaw-angle range. The Reynolds-number effect on the total-pressure coefficient is found remarkable when the absolute values of the pitch and yaw angles are larger than 20 degrees. Through a typical non-nulling reduction procedure, actual reduced values of the pitch and yaw angles, static and total pressures, and velocity magnitude at each Reynolds number are obtained by employing the calibration coefficients at the highest Reynolds number ($Re=3.17{\times}10^4$) as input reference calibration data. As a result, it is found that each reduced value has its own unique trend depending on the pitch and yaw angles. Its general tendency is related closely to the variation of the corresponding calibration coefficient with the Reynolds number. Among the reduced values, the reduced total pressure suffers the most considerable deviation from the measured one and its dependency upon the pitch and yaw angles is most noticeable. In this study, the root-mean-square data as well as the upper and lower bounds of the reduced values are reported as a function of the Reynolds number. These data would be very useful in the estimation of the Reynolds-number effects on the non-nulling calibration.

To satisfy stricter $NO_X$ emission regulations for light- and heavy-duty diesel vehicles, a control algorithm needs to be developed based on a selective catalytic reaction (SCR) dynamics model for chemical reactions. This paper presents the development and validation of a SCR dynamics model through test rig experiments and MATLAB simulations. A nonlinear state space model is proposed based on the mass conservation law of chemical reactions in the SCR dynamics model. Experiments were performed on a test rig to evaluate the effects of the $NO_X$ and $NH_3$ concentrations, gas temperature, and space velocity on the $NO_X$ conversion efficiency for the urea-SCR system. The parameter values of the proposed SCR model were identified using the experimental datasets. Finally, a control-oriented model for an SCR system was developed and validated from the experimental data in a MATLAB simulation. The results of this study should contribute toward developing a closed-loop control strategy for $NO_X$ and $NH_3$ slip reduction in the urea-SCR system for an actual engine test bench.

Bubble reduction devices are intended to solve problems related to the quantitative supply of oil. Therefore, in this study, numerical analysis was conducted to verify the flow characteristics of bubble particles during the operation of a bubble reduction device. As a result of the basic analysis, the area where the rise and fall of bubbles were most active was found, and numerical calculations were performed focusing on the points. Before the numerical calculations, a non-dimensional derivation was performed to secure homogeneity among the variables. Based on the data obtained from non-dimension derivation, 25 variable conditions for each particle size and fluid velocity were set. Through separate calculations, the equation for bubble rise and fall was derived. By calculating the ratio of drag and buoyancy for each variable, if the drag force acting on the bubble was greater than buoyancy, the bubble falls, and bubbles are not reduced. If the buoyancy is larger than drag, the bubble rises, and the bubble is reduced. Through the analysis, the rise and fall of the bubble were confirmed, and the results were consistent with the separate numerical calculations.
Accuracy of a reconstruction technique assuming a constant characteristic exhaust velocity ($c^*$) efficiency for reducing hybrid rocket firing test data was examined experimentally. To avoid the difficulty arising from a number of complex chemical equilibrium calculations, a simple approximate expression of theoretical $c^*$ as a function of the oxidizer to fuel ratio (${\xi}$) and the chamber pressure was developed. A series of static firing tests with the same test conditions except burning duration revealed that the error in the calculated fuel consumption decreases with increasing firing duration, showing that the error mainly comes from the ignition and shutdown transients. The present reconstruction technique obtains ${\xi}$ by solving an equation between theoretical and experimental $c^*$ values. A difficulty arises when multiple solutions of ${\xi}$ exists. In the PMMA-LOX combination, a ${\xi}$ range of 0.6 to 1.0 corresponds to this case. The definition of $c^*$ efficiency necessary to be used in this reconstruction technique is different from a $c^*$ efficiency obtained by a general method. Because the $c^*$ efficiency obtained by average chamber pressure and ${\xi}$ includes the $c^*$ loss due to the ${\xi}$ shift, it can be below unity even when the combustion gas keeps complete mixing and chemical equilibrium during the entire period of a firing. Therefore, the $c^*$ efficiency obtained in the present reconstruction technique is superior to the $c^*$ efficiency obtained by the general method to evaluate the degree of completion of the mixing and chemical reaction in the combustion chamber.
In case of studied area located around the sea, the data measured from the regional meteorological office is highly different from the local weather data because the diffusivity of fugitive dust varies considerably with meteorological conditions. Especially, it is very difficult to predict the amount of fugitive dust accurately as wind speed remains high frequently. In this study, the fluxes of suspended particulates as a function of the friction velocity were applied to consider the effect of wind speed on the amount of fugitive dust generated from the reclamation site. The amount of fugitive dust estimated as mentioned above was simulated by using ISCST3 model. As a result, in case of using only the Fugitive Dust Formula which is usually used in Environment Impact Assessment, the predicted $PM_{10}$ concentrations with points were $43.4{\sim}67.8{\mu}g/m^3$. However, in case of applying to the flux of suspended particulates, the predicted values of $PM_{10}$ with points were $43.3{\sim}69.1{\mu}g/m^3$, $49.5{\sim}90.4{\mu}g/m^3$ and $76.0{\sim}182.6{\mu}g/m^3$ with the wind speeds of 4.4, 5.8 and 7.7m/s, respectively. It could be possible to predict the amount of fugitive dust accurately because these predicted values were similar to the measured values. Consequently, we can establish alternatives for reduction of fugitive dust in this area damaged by fugitive dust which is caused by wind.

The effects of Reynolds number on the non-nulling calibrations of a cone-type ave-type probe in low-speed flows have been investigated at Reynolds numbers of 2.04$\times$10$^3$, 4.09$\times$10$^3$and 6.13$\times$10$^3$. The calibration is conducted at the pitch and yaw angles in ranges between -35 degrees and 35 degrees with an angle interval of 5 degrees. In addition to the calibration coefficients, reduced pitch and yaw angles, static and total pressures, and velocity magnitude are obtained through a typical non-nulling reduction procedure. The result shows that each calibration coefficient, in general, is a function of both the pitch and yaw angles, so that the pre-existing calibration data in a nulling mode are not enough in accounting far the full non-nulling calibration characteristics. Due to interference of the probe stem, the calibration coefficient are more sensitive to Reynolds number at positive pitch angles than at negative ones. The calibration data reduced in this study may serve as a guide line in the estimation of uncertainty intervals resulted from the Reynolds number effects at low Reynolds numbers.
Turbulence structure and suspended sediment transport capacity in vegetated open-channel flows are investigated numerically in the present paper. The $\textsc{k}-\;\varepsilon$ model is employed for the turbulence closure. Mean velocity and turbulence characteristics including turbulence intensity, Reynolds stress, and production and dissipation of turbulence kinetic energy are evaluated and compared with measurement data available in the literature. The numerical results show that mean velocity is diminished due to the drag provided by vegetation, which results in the reduction of turbulence intensity and Reynolds stress. For submerged vegetation, the shear at the top of vegetation dominates turbulence production, and the turbulence production within vegetation is characterized by wakes. For emergent condition, it is observed that the turbulence generation is dominated by wakes within vegetation. In general, simulated profiles compares favorably to measured data. Computed values of eddy viscosity are used to solve the conservation equation for suspended sediment, yielding sediment concentration more uniform over the depth compared with the one in the plain channel. The simulation reveals that the suspended load decreases as the vegetation density increases and the suspended load increases as the particle diameter decreases for the same vegetation density.
