Objectives : The present study was designed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative stress activities through regulation of Nrf2-mediated genes by Rhei rhizoma and Glycyrrhiza rhizoma combined extract (RGE) in reflux esophagitis. Methods : The antioxidant activity of RGE in vitro was measured in terms of radical scavenging capacity such as DPPH and ABTS. RGE was administered at 350 mg/kg body weight prior to induction of reflux esophagitis. Reflux esophagitis was induced that tied the pylorus and the transitional junction between the forestomach and the corpus in Sprague-Dawley rats. Results : RGE scavenged DPPH and ABTS effectively and IC50of RGE each were 4.9 μg/ml and 45.6 μg/ml. Our results show that RGE administration markedly ameliorated mucosal damage upon histological evaluation. In serum and esophagus tissue, RGE significantly suppressed the oxidative stress biomarkers. Reflux esophagitis induced rats exhibited down-regulation of antioxidant-related proteins in the esophagus; however, the levels with treatment of RGE were significantly higher than those of vehicle reflux esophagitis rats. RGE treatment caused significant reductions in activation of NF-κB transcription factor. Thus, RGE significantly exhibited potent anti-inflammatory activities by suppressing the protein expression levels of pro-inflammatory proteins such as COX-2 and iNOS and inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-αin the esophagus tissue. Conclusions : Reflux esophagitis caused considerable levels of oxidative stress in the esophageal mucosa and the administration of RGE reduced the esophageal mucosa damage through the regulation of Nrf2 and NF-κB pathways. Our findings can considered as supplementary therapy in the prevention or treatment of reflux esophagitis.

This study is comprised of data obtained from the files of 346 patients with temporomandibular disorders. All patients were diagnosed, treated and followed in the Department of Dentistry at the Inha university hospital, Incheon, Korea. The patients had treated with medications, physical therapy, occlusal splint and arthrocentesis. The study data were obtained from the medical records and telephone interviews that were conducted by research assistants. The results were as follows 1. The patient's main complaint was pain(77%), and mouth opening limitation was 17%. 2. An analysis of the medical records of the 346 patients disclosed that 82% were improved and 17% had no improvement when they were dismissed. 1% of the patients had become worse during therapy. 3. A success rate of 82% was achieved when medication assisted physical therapy was included. In the current status at the telephone interview, 270 patients(89%) reported that they were doing well with 56% describing themselves as asymtomatic and 32% experiencing only minor residual or recurrent symptoms. 11% regarded themselves as unimproved and worse. 4. In the current status of the unsuccessfully treated patients by medications and physical therapy, 64% of patients were doing well(3% as asymptomatic and 56% as only minor residual or recurrent symptom). But 36% of patients was reported as unimproved and worse. 5. TMJ has a remarkable adaptive potential and TMJ disorder has a natural history of spontaneous fluctuations and favorable prognosis during the subsequent natural course. 6. In the treatment of the temporomandibular disorders, there is a treatment ladder, starting with the simplest and least expensive treatment, that is ascended until resolution of the patient's symptoms occur. These findings suggest that conservative reversible therapies are both sufficient and appropriate for management of temporomandibular disorder in most patients. Major alterations of mandibular position or dentoalveolar relationships do not appear to be necessary for obtaining either short term or long term success and therefore they can be generally regards as inappropriate treatment for this disorder. The fact that physical therapy is non-invasive and does not appear to be fraught with irreversible changes, makes it a very applicable vehicle in the area of clinical TMJ disorder management.
Acaiberry (Euterpe oleracea Mart.) is widely diffused in amazon and is known that has high antioxidant capacity and potential anti-inflammatory activities. The aim of this study was to evaluate analgesic effects of acaiberry in formalin-induced orofacial pain through p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases (p38 MAPK) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate 4 (NOX4) pathway. Rats were divided into 5 groups (n=6); formalin (5%, $50{\mu}L$), formalin after saline (vehicle) or acaiberry (16, 80, 160 mg/kg, intraperitoneally). The nociceptive response was investigated all of groups, p38 MAPK or NOX4 were analysed at dose of 80 mg/kg of acaiberry in rat's medulla oblongata and adrenal gland. Results indicated that acai berry produced analgesic effect in a dose-dependent manner and significantly reduced formalin-induced nociceptive response at 15~40 min. Acaiberry (80 mg/kg) decreased the increased p38 MAPK activation and NOX4 expression in medulla oblongata and adrenal gland. Based on these results, acaiberry is believed to be useful for modulation of orofacial pain and its treatments because of its anti-inflammatory and antioxidative effects.

Purpose: The neuroprotective effects of erythropoietin (EPO) have been recently shown in many animal models of brain injury, including hypoxic-ischemic (HI) encephalopathy, trauma, and excitotoxicity; however, limited data are available for such effects during the neonatal periods. Therefore, we investigated whether recombinant human EPO (rHuEPO) can protect against perinatal HI brain injury via an antiapoptotic mechanism. Methods: The left carotid artery was ligated in 7-day-old Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat pups ($in$$vivo$ model). The animals were divided into 6 groups: normoxia control (NC), normoxia sham-operated (NS), hypoxia only (H), hypoxia+vehicle (HV), hypoxia+rHuEPO before a hypoxic insult (HE-B), and hypoxia+rHuEPO after a hypoxic insult (HE-A). Embryonic cortical neuronal cell culture of SD rats at 18 days gestation ($in$$vitro$ model) was performed. The cultured cells were divided into 5 groups: normoxia (N), hypoxia (H), and 1, 10, and 100 IU/mL rHuEPO-treated groups. Results: In the $in$$vivo$ model, Bcl-2 expressions in the H and HV groups were lower than those in the NC and NS groups, whereas those in the HE-A and HE-B groups were greater than those of the H and HV groups. The expressions of Bax and caspase-3 and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 were in contrast to those of Bcl-2. In the $in$$vitro$ model, the patterns of Bcl-2, Bax, and caspase-3 expression and Bax/Bcl-2 ratio were similar to the results obtained in the in vivo model. Conclusion: rHuEPO exerts neuroprotective effect against perinatal HI brain injury via an antiapoptotic mechanism.

This paper aims at delivering significant implications to high-tech startups by visualizing the implementation process of leading KOSDAQ listed companies's business model. This paper founded two meaningful outcomes; first, hish-tech starts-up make a clear direction of implementing intangible business model in real business, second, targeting the role model of benchmarking business model among leading companies, by linking common feature between high-tech starts-up and leading KOSDAQ listed venutures sharing one of Key performance indexes falls on viable business model. The research results of visualizing the implementation of leading KOSDAQ listed ventures' business model shows three major implications. First, business model indicates not just simple logic of creating and delivering values, but more shows CEO leading management vehicle. Second, business model represents the multi-dimension process itself of integrating in and out company's core assets and competencies initiated by CEO. Third, financial outcomes of business model is automatic result of implementing on setting target customer, creating value, and delivering it rather than planned strategically. Fourth, the focal points of implementing business model falls on collecting real information from business sites.

Recently, full-scale research about a passenger tube train system is being progressed as a next-generation transportation system in Korea in light of global green technology. The Korea Railroad Research Institute (KRRI) has commenced official research on the construction of a tube train system. In this paper, we studied various parameters of the tube train system such as the internal tube pressure, blockage ratio, and operating speed through computational analysis with a symmetric and elongated vehicle. This study was about the aerodynamic characteristics of a tube train that operated under standard atmospheric pressure (open field system, viz., ground) and in various internal tube environments (varying internal tube pressure, blockage ratio, and operating speed) with the same shape and operating speed. Under these conditions, the internal tube pressure was calculated when the energy efficiency had the same value as that of the open field train depending on various combinations of the operating speed and blockage ratio (the P-D relation). In addition, the dependence of the relation between the internal tube pressure and the blockage ratio (the P-${\beta}$ relation) was shown. Besides, the dependence of the relation between the total drag and the operating speed depending on various combinations of the blockage ratio and internal tube pressure (the D-V relation) was shown. Also, we compared the total (aerodynamic) drag of a train in the open field with the total drag of a train inside a tube. Then, we calculated the limit speed of the tube train, i.e., the maximum speed, for various internal tube pressures (the V-P relation) and the critical speed that leads to shock waves under various blockage ratios, which is related to the efficiency of the tube train (the critical V-${\beta}$ relation). Those results provide guidelines for the initial design and construction of a tube train system.
In order to investigate the protective effect of Samduhaejungtang on the liver injury of rats induced by $CCl_4$ and d-galactosamine, the serum transaminase(GOT& GPT), alkaline phosphatase(ALP), lactic dehydrogenase(LDH) for enzyme activities and triglyceride, total bilirubin amounts for serum component were measured. All animals were divided into 4 groups, those were normal group(untreated), control group(treated with vehicle 0.9% Saline solution), sample Ⅰ group(1000mg/kg administrated), sample Ⅱ group(2000mg/kg administrated). The results were as follows : 1. The inhibitory effects of the serum GOT activities in rats induced by $CCl_4$ were noted in both sample Ⅰ group(p<0.01) and sample Ⅱ group(p<0.001). In serum GPT activities, sample Ⅱ group(p<0.05) only showed the inhibitory effects. 2. The inhibitory effects of the serum ALP activities in rats induced by $CCl_4$ were noted in both sample Ⅰ group(p<0.01) and sample Ⅱ group(p<0.001). 3. The inhibitory effects of the serum LDH activities in rats induced by $CCl_4$ were noted in sample Ⅱ group(p<0.05). 4. The increases of the serum triglyceride content level in rats induced by $CCl_4$ were inhibited in both sample Ⅰ group(p<0.01) and sample Ⅱ group(p<0.001). 5. The increases of the serum total bilirubin content level in rats induced by $CCl_4$ were inhibited in both sample Ⅰ group(p<0.01) and sample Ⅱ group(p<0.001). 6. The inhibitory effects of the serum GOT& GPT activities in rats induced by d-galactosamine were noted in sample Ⅱ group(p<0.001), but sample Ⅰ group was not recongnized. 7. The significantly inhibitory effects of in the serum LDH activities in rats induced by d-galactosamine were note in sample Ⅱ group(p<0.05). 8. The increases of the serum triglyceride content level in rats induced by d-galactosamine were inhibited in sample Ⅱ group(p<0.01). 9. The increases of the serum total bilirubin content level in rats induced by d-galactosamine were inhibited in sample Ⅱ group(p<0.05). According to the above results, it is considered that Samduhaejungtang has protective effect against liver injury in rats induced by $CCl_4$ and d-galactosamine.
