  • Image quality is one of the most important factors affecting the performance of digital displays. This paper introduces various digital image processing techniques commonly applied to digital displays. They include preferred color correction, tone reproduction, and frame rate conversion. Also, issues related to image quality evaluation are addressed.

A Survey on Image Emotion Recognition

  • Emotional semantics are the highest level of semantics that can be extracted from an image. Constructing a system that can automatically recognize the emotional semantics from images will be significant for marketing, smart healthcare, and deep human-computer interaction. To understand the direction of image emotion recognition as well as the general research methods, we summarize the current development trends and shed light on potential future research. The primary contributions of this paper are as follows. We investigate the color, texture, shape and contour features used for emotional semantics extraction. We establish two models that map images into emotional space and introduce in detail the various processes in the image emotional semantic recognition framework. We also discuss important datasets and useful applications in the field such as garment image and image retrieval. We conclude with a brief discussion about future research trends.

데이터 의존성과 벡터왜곡척도를 이용한 개선된 프랙탈 칼라영상 복호화 (An Improved Fractal Color Image Decoding Based on Data Dependence and Vector Distortion Measure)

  • 본 논문에서는 데이타 의존성과 벡터왜곡척도를 이용하여 개선된 칼라영상을 복호화하였다. 프랙탈칼라영상의 복원방법은 Zhang과 Po의 벡터왜곡척도를 이용한 RGB 칼라 성분간의 상관관계를 고려하여 부호화한 압축파일을 사용하여 수렴 될 복원영상을 부호화시 만들어진 변환표의 정보를 바탕으로 참조된 정 의 역 부분이 기존의 독립적인 반복변환에 의해 수렴되었고 참조되지 않은 부분의 정의역은 데이타의존성을 갖는 영역으로 이미 수렴된 부분에 존재하므로 마지막 반복변환시 한번만에 복호화가 가능하다. 데이타의존성 부분이 차지 하는 만큼 복호화 과정에서 불필요한 계산량이 제거되었고, R영역에서 검색한 데이타 의존영역을 G,B영역에 그대로 사용하여 고속복호화가 가능하였다.

연마지를 이용한 촉각적 시각에 관한 연구 (A Study on Tactile Visuality Using Sandpapers)

  • Human senses have been studied widely. Many studied are being actively conducted to analyze correlations between two or more different senses. Among them, research on tactile visuality where a subject can indirectly experience visual sensation through tactile elements is also progressing in various fields. In this study, we analyzed color information by having subjects perceive sandpapers with different roughness through tactile sense, then having them choose a color that is reminiscent of the tactile sensation. Unlike existing tactile-visuality studies allowing the perception of indirect visual sense by using tactile sense, this study shows that it is possible to analyze with quantitative value by representing visual image perceived by tactile sense as a color. This study will contribute to emotional evaluation research that combines two or more of the senses felt by humans, and especially is considered to be useful as basic data when conducting research about tactile visuality or auditory tactile sense.

An Assessment of the Deterioration of Fabricated Metal Thread with Light, and Temperature and Humidity Factors: A Focused Study of Asian Textile Collections at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

  • To investigate the deterioration of textiles with metal thread, I surveyed 40 textile objects, dating from the 11th to the 19th century from Korea, China, Japan, and Central Asia at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. This survey included various types, widths, and thicknesses of metal thread. In addition, deterioration was examined under the microscope and color information was collected using the spectrophotometer. While investigating metal thread in the collections, I fabricated 12 different types of metal samples with metal leaf(24K gold, silver, and copper leaf), adhesive (hide animal glue and a mixture of hide animal glue and iron oxide red), and paper substrate(Korean mulberry and Taiwanese kozo paper). The accelerated deterioration process of those fabricated samples was carried out using a light box(UV and daylight), and a humidity cabinet. In the light experiment with blue scales textile fading card(aka, blue wool standard), the metal leaf began to peel off during the deterioration process with 756,000 lux-hours UV and daylight. In the temperature and humidity experiment, I could observe the reddish tarnish on copper, and some part of it began to peel off. Color reading on the light exposed samples showed that the degree of color change on the surface follows the amount of exposure as it increased over time. On the other hand, color change on the samples after artificial deterioration using temperature and humidity factors showed random change of color with occasional spikes. Distortion of original shape worsened in the samples exposed to temperature and humidity.

색상과 기하학적인 특징 기반의 유해 영상 탐지 (Detection of Harmful Images Based on Color and Geometrical Features)

  • 최근 들어, 초고속의 유무선 인터넷과 스마트 기기가 널리 보급됨에 따라 사진이나 동영상 형태의 유해 영상들이 급속히 보급되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 입력되는 영상에서 음란성을 대표하는 여성의 유두 영역을 자동으로 추출하여 유해 영상을 보다 효과적으로 탐지하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 알고리즘은 먼저 입력된 영상의 RGB 색상공간을 $YC_bC_r$ 공간으로 변환하여 사람의 피부색상 영역을 검출한다. 그리고 본 논문에서 새롭게 정의한 유두 맵을 적용하여 검출된 피부 영역으로부터 유두의 후보 영역들을 추출한다. 그런 다음, 기하학적인 특징을 사용하여 유두의 후보영역 중에서 실제 유두 영역만을 강건하게 필터링하고, 여성의 유두 영역을 포함하고 있는 영상을 유해한 영상이라고 판단한다. 성능을 비교 평가하는 실험결과에서는 제안된 색상과 기하학적인 특징 기반의 알고리즘이 유해 영상을 기존의 방법에 비해 보다 정확하게(4.1% 향상) 탐지한다는 것을 실험을 통해 보여준다.

Measurement of Aerosol Parameters with Altitude by Using Two Wavelength Rotational Raman Signals

  • Aerosol size distribution provides good information for predicting weather changes and understanding cloud formation. Aerosol extinction coefficient and backscattering coefficient are measured by many scientists, but these parameters depend not only on aerosol size but on aerosol concentrations. An algorithm has been developed to measure aerosol parameters such as ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent, color ratio, and LIDAR ratio without any assumptions by using two wavelength rotational Raman LIDAR signals. These parameters are good indicators for the aerosol size. And we can find ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent, color ratio, and LIDAR ratio under various weather conditions. Finally, it can be seen that the ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent has an inverse relationship to the particle size of the aerosol and the color ratio is linearly dependent on the aerosol size. An ${\AA}$ngstr$\ddot{o}$m exponent from 1.2 to 3.1, a color ratio from 0.28 to 1.04, and a LIDAR ratio 66.9 sr at 355 nm and 32.6 sr at 532 nm near the cloud were obtained.

날씨·조명 판단 및 적응적 색상모델을 이용한 도로주행 영상에서의 이정표 검출 (Road Sign Detection with Weather/Illumination Classifications and Adaptive Color Models in Various Road Images)

  • 도로주행 영상에서의 객체 검출에 관한 기존의 연구들은 날씨 및 조명 상태에 따른 객체 검출의 어려움 때문에 대부분 맑은 날씨의 영상을 대상으로 연구가 진행되었다. 본 논문에서는 도로주행 영상의 다양한 날씨 및 조명 상태를 먼저 판단하고, 이를 기반으로 도로 이정표에 대한 색상모델을 설정하여 이정표 객체를 찾는 방법을 제안한다. 제안한 방법은 5종류의 도로 이미지 특징을 이용하여 맑음, 흐림, 비, 야간, 역광으로 날씨 및 조명 상태를 먼저 분류하고, 각각의 상태에서 대상 이정표 색상의 픽셀값의 범위를 추출하여 GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model)을 생성하고 이를 객체 추출에 사용한다. 날씨 및 조명이 다양하게 변하는 도로주행 영상에 제안한 방법을 적용하여 이정표 영역이 안정적으로 찾아지는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

한국영화에 표현된 회색의 기능과 의미 : 기억과 망각 (Function and Meaning of Color Gray in Korean Films : Memory and Oblivion)

  • The color gray in the cinema expresses the private or public memory and oblivion in the reminiscence scenes. The aesthetic function and meaning of gray that interacts with other elements in cinematic time and space are expanded in various ways. This study was analyzed the cases in which gray was used as the main visual style by limiting the scope to Korean films. Based on the traditional cultural symbolic meaning of gray, I analyzed how it was applied and transformed in films, and interpreted the cultural-social meaning by the interaction between gray and other elements. In film history starting from monochrome, gray has been used as a visual device suitable for realizing cinematic or imaginary reality. Gray is adopted when dreams or recollections are visualized as imaginary reality, and it is used when dreamy imaginations of daydreaming are demonstrated. Gray, which reproduces the dreamlike reality of imagination, is the concrete and realistic way of expression. First, in Korean films, gray is a flashback visual device that recalls the past, and is an intermediary visual form that materializes the imaginary. In films such as Ode to My Father (2014), DongJu (2015), A Resistance(2019) and The Battle : Roar to Victory (2019), the gray of the past is a visual device for cultural memory that builds the homogeneity and identity of the group. In the era of hyper-visibility, gray in black and white images is intended to be clearly remembered by unfamiliarity rather than blurry oblivion by familiarity. Second, in genre films with disaster materials such as Train To Busan (2016) and Ashfall (2019), the grays of rain, fog, clouds, shadows and smoke highlight other elements, and the gray color causes anxiety and fear. In war films such as TaeGukGi: Brotherhood Of War (2003) and The Front Line (2011), gray shows a more intense brutality than the primary color. In sports films such as 4th Place (2015), Take Off (2009) and Forever The Moment (2007), gray expresses uncertainty and immaturity. Third, gray visualizes the historical memory of A Petal (1996), the oblivion in Oh! My Gran (2020) and Poetry (2010), and the reality of daydreaming Gagman (1988) and Dream (1990). At the boundary between imagination and reality, gray is a visual form of dreams, memories and forgetfulness.

계층적 히스토그램을 이용한 컬러영상분할 (Color Image Segmentation using Hierarchical Histogram)

  • Image segmentation is very important technique as preprocessing. It is used for various applications such as object recognition, computer vision, object based image compression. In this paper, a method which segments the multidimensional image using a hierarchical histogram approach, is proposed. The hierarchical histogram approach is a method that decomposes the multi-dimensional situation into multi levels of 1 dimensional situations. It has the advantage of the rapid and easy calculation of the histogram, and at the same time because the histogram is applied at each level and not as a whole, it is possible to have more detailed partitioning of the situation.
